Very beautiful library, somehow it is smaller than I expected and it is pretty dark inside. You are not allowed to take pix. The cathedral is probably the most beautiful in the whole Switzerland. They have a very informative audio guide you can rent for 5 chf. Most of the cloister is occupied by school, government offices and banks. St. Gallen is a very elegant small city, worth a day tour.

Monastery library is amazing place with all these 1200 years old books. Must see when you are in Sankt Gallen.

When in St. Gallen the Abbey of Saint Gallen + the library are a must to visit. The Cathedral gives significant insight into the extensive history of the city and how religion played a crucial role in it. In terms of the inside of the Abbey, it is a start contrast to the normally quite dark churches that I personally found refreshing. The inside has beautiful baroque decoration and the paintings on the ceiling are breathtaking. Costs: 0 CHF Tip: Minimal information about the location inside is available. So I suggest consulting google if you value or are interested in gaining that additional insight of the monument.

It is definitely worth booking a few hours to visit the entire complex. Both the church and the library and museum impress you. I liked and was impressed by the fact that inside the complex there are still classes for students and there is a school

Impressive library with wonderful decorations. Will be worth a visit. Also, the cellar has some impressive rare old books on display. Some with carved ivory tablets on its covers.

I spent like 6 hours here and could easily spend another 6. The place is so rich in history and ancient knowledge that my inner nerd was jumping with excitement the whole time. The interactive parts of the exhibition are also quite enjoyable.

Amazing display of history and artifacts at the underground vault of Saint Gall Monastery! The artifacts from Roman and early middle aged as well as architecture designs for the current buildings from the 17th and 18th century are displayed with multilingual information. A must see along with the historic library upstairs when visiting St. Gallen.

Definitely worth the experience! If you're into Baroque decor and all the Gaulish attributes of that then this is a must.

Very interesting monastery. Library is a must see, not sure why they put a mummy in it though. The place is really vivid and interesting architecturally.

At the heart of the Abbey Complex lies a breathtaking late baroque cathedral boasting a captivating twin-towered façade. Crafted between 1755 and 1767 by the skilled hands of Peter Thumb and Johann Michael Beer, originally intended as the Abbey church, it later earned the prestigious title of the cathedral for the diocese of St. Gall in 1847. Inside this architectural gem, art aficionados will discover a treasure trove of baroque masterpieces, from the intricate choir stalls adorned with evocative Benedictine scenes by Joseph Anton Feuchtmayer, to the enchanting choir screen and the captivating relief narrating the life of Gallus by Christian Wenzinger. And towering above all is the majestic dome, adorned with heavenly saints, casting a spellbinding aura over its visitors.

The baroque cathedaral was built in the later 18 century after its founding by St. Otmar (an Irish cathiloc monk) around 600 AD. The actual place where, so says the myth, a bear gave the hungry and exhausted monk a loaf of bread, which the monk took as sign from God, is only a short walk south, near the station of the Muehleggbaehnli. The visually stunning park outside the cathedaral with its over 60 meter tall twin bell towers is calming and impressive at the same time. Its understandable that it has been awarded and is protected under the UNESCO Worldheritage.

The Abbey of Saint Gall is an incredible world heritage site. We found the church impressive but it was the library that was stunning. There's a small price of admission for the latter but we'll worth it!

Truly beautiful library well worth the visit, but the real surprise was the information in the two exhibitions that are also part of your ticket. They include some very very old documents and books and the information is in multiple languages. You will not be allowed to take any pictures anywhere, not even without flash, which was a bit disappointing but understandable considering the age of the manuscripts.

Is a very bright and elegant church. The original chapel had been built in the 7th century. The cloister is very picturesque.

One the most incredible places that I visited here in Switzerland! I love the library the most of it. And we was pleased with the organ concert in the Cathedral.

  • 5/5 Lenura A. 1 year ago on Google
Overall experience is great! Few things to know though - it is smaller than it looks on the pictures, also we had an impression that it would be more of a running library rather then just a museum - you cannot touch anything and cannot check any of the books. I mean it makes sense after you see it, but was not clear before we went there.

It is one of those places that you have to see at least once in your life time. It was a beautiful, full of charm experience.

This is a very old library. It has museum and books that are more than 1000 years old
