In response to that simply baffling comment on my review by the owner, I’m aware of the ‘guest list’ as there were to lines. Before we even tried to queue up we were told no, then we told these two girls who were about to queue that the owner said it’s full capacity unless your on the guest list, which they were not. We told them go and try to get in it won’t work which obviously it did and they were let in no issues and so we’re around 50 other people who were not on the guest list who arrived after us. Also I was not making a claim about gender bias I was simply just stating that a member of your security team said that you in-fact choose who you want let in the club based on looks and so forth, he also continued to state that more time females are treated with way more respect.

Complete disappointment. The club space itself is very nicely decorated with all the necessary equipment BUT for some unknown reason the management chose not to switch on ANY lights on the dance floor so it was just dark and boring. No strobe, no colours, no lasers, nothing. Only two static red lights pointing at the DJs. The only source of eventual light for the dance floor was the toilet whenever someone opened the door 🤦 I even spoke to the management asking them to give us *some* light but was told that "Oh it's a night club, it's supposed to be dark". No sir, it's supposed to be fun and atmospheric, not just dark. Honestly, if I wanted to dance in complete darkness, I'd do it in my bathroom with the light off. As for the music, it was just bad. Repetitive and bad. We left quickly.

I arrived with some mates after having two drinks each at a rooftop bar nearby, after joining the line and seeing a few people head inside the bald manager came and told us we were not being let in. Obviously if there were too many people in there we would’ve totally understood but he gave no indication to why we weren’t let in. The bouncer said to come back in a couple hours to see how we would go but continued to refuse us entry. Prior to going out as a group we signed up to the so called “guest - list” online which meant we could get into the establishment however this obviously has no basis to actually getting into the club. Myself and friends have been going to 77 for many months and throughly enjoyed it but for some reason this manager just isn’t letting us in. Shame.

The owner (Rennie) is so lovely. Welcomed us in with open arms! Music was great! Security was so sweet (Gav) and I had a really great night! Would recommend for any techno/PC Music lovers.

I really liked it at first but of course the Sydney bounces showed their best side. I thought a good techno club would be bette than clubs like the ivy etc. but no I was wrong the security is as bad as the ivy security. I was saying goodbye to my friend and coulnd get back in because the security thought I was too intoxicated and even when I talked to the manger he denied my entry after paying 20$ entry and not even being taken serious I was very disappointed by this club. They just wanna make as much money as they can. I cannot recommend.

It was so very pathetic to feel what we all felt even when it was a staff party booked whole venue. The GM was so very rude and i dont think itll be a pleasurable evening or night for anyone to visit the place. I hope i could give it a 0 star review

Worst bar ever. The bald general manager is a disgusting man. He is full of attitude and is really arrogant. Worst customer service in the history. Never ever going to this place. The main reason will be the bald general manager who does not know how to do his job properly. He does not know how customer service works in the industry.

Beware ⚠️. Bald security guard and a young security guy basically denied entry to all brown and some asian people by saying it is an inclusive event others were going in without any question. People of colour are not allowed. We have travelled all the way from penrith to this low life club in heavy rain. Management should apologize and compensate for this bad behaviour. After observing for few minutes and talking to other venues nearby we got to know that the security guards and management is basically racist. Don't bother to stay inline if you are brown definitely not worth it. It is a small club with big attitude. Take your money to other establishment. There loss not ours. Poor customer service shame on you club77 change your name to club racist 24/7.

I was sneezing around the corner - and the manager legit asked me to leave the area, and said I was rude person cause I told him I didn’t attend his venue and am sneezing around the corner on a side road. I have never thought a venue could ask a person who didn’t attend their venue to leave the vicinity they have no prescient over. But according to the short little aggressive ginger fella If I’m an awful person… this club thinks they have the right asks people to leave an area near the club when they didn’t attend. I have now been approached by two security guards aggressively since writing this, when sat alone waiting for an Uber. If this club wants to hire aggressive people for those who are quietly waiting for an Uber then I’ll make sure to shout as I leave that this club hires aggressive men who think they can ask a member of the public to leave an area they have no jurisdiction over

Wow! What a mind blowingly amazing venue! From the time you step through the front door and walk down the stairway, I knew I was in for a treat! Through a narrow walkway you step into a dimly lit bar and the dancefloor and mainstage to the right. The space is small, dark and lit by accent lights... the temperature is warm and stuffy... but it all adds to the amazing atmosphere that hits you as soon as your enter the club. The DJs are pumping music loud and hard and the dancefloor is tight with people thoroughly enjoying the beats! My first visit to Seventy Seven and I absolutely loved it! As a solo female clubber goer, the security staff and bar staff were all super friendly and made me feel safe. You have guaranteed my return!

Club 77 has remained a pillar of Sydney's club culture for years, playing host to the rise of many local artists, as the go-to for many international acts, and as the home for a whole variety of communities & subcultures that may not have otherwise had the opportunity to thrive. With the introduction of their latest safety policy, as well as the education of their staff & security, 77 are proving that while they might have been around a long time, they're more than aware of the need to strive for perfection across the entire clubbing ecosystem. I highly recommend a visit here for anyone comfortable enough with a clubbing environment that discourages discomfort. 77 has my utmost respect, and is a hugely good time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Worst club and worst experience ever, they(GM) themselves insulted us so badly in front of other people when it was our staff booked party. Never go into it, there’s better place and better venue to chill around. Tight spaced club with no proper ventilation, they can be happy with 2 drunkards 😋

Club 77 is hands down the best electronic music space this city has to offer. Focused on culture and music and featuring artists that are unique. It’s a safe space and everyone is welcome to come in and have a dance as long as they don’t make others feel uncomfortable. Other venues should definitely look up to 77 and how things are done here. RESPECT 🤘🏽

I had a fabulous night at your venue a few weeks ago now, but what really stood out for me was the quality of care and service I received from one of the bouncers/security guards on shift. I was feeling rather poorly from a lack of water and the intense heat inside and went outside for some air. When I was outside, I suddenly realised I needed to throw up, and went down a nearby alleyway on my own. This security guard must have seen me dash off on my own down a dark alley and respectfully came to check up on me. He asked all of the responsible questions such as how much I had to drink, and if I had taken anything else. When he saw I wasn't feeling any better, he went and grabbed me a bottle of water. He told me he wasn’t comfortable with leaving me alone in the dark alleyway and stood on the corner of the club where he was able to keep an eye out on me as well as give me the space I needed. When my friends came to find me, he stayed to make sure everything was okay. My friends tried to call an uber with no luck, and he must have overheard as he offered to walk us to catch a cab. This is the safest I have ever felt on a night out, particularly when I was feeling very vulnerable and unwell. I never got the name of this particular security guard, but was told he moved to Sydney from Werribee in Melbourne recently, as I am from Melbourne as well. I am extremely grateful to have had him looking out for me that night and believe this is well above the standard for all security guards working at nightclubs. His quality of service moved me personally that night. Thank you.

i'm happy that club 77 is still going and provided the first music event since the rona. it's a decent venue and i give props to the bloke who runs the place for inviting drox and phax machine to play. unfortunately he didn't offer the same courtesy to myself and my friend when we arrived at the door to come in. we explained our phones didn't have the capability to scan the qr code (for the rona contact tracing) to which he replied 'well we have a problem'. no worries, we'll just download some app to do it, and because we are luddites with our phones (in particular my friend is) it took us a few minutes to do it. at that point he said we couldn't come in because my friend was too intoxicated :( sure we'd had a few beers, but we weren't drunk. just because my friend doesn't know how to use the camera on his phone we weren't let in. sure mate, take our $100 for the tickets and then be a douche at the door. take a backseat and let someone else run the place.

horrible seccies and licensee. Rude and racist staff, very much not the place to go. Especially when the seccies and licensee make up lies about you for whatever reason to not let you in. Owner was nice, but im sorry I implore everyone to not waste their time and money at this horrible establishment.

"It was 20 years ago today, Sergent Pepper taught the band how to play" -The Beatles-1967 Or so I was reminded to the similarity between Club 77, 2021AD and the last time Id been there, back in 2001AD, 20 years ago. Back on friday last 12 Nov I connected with Gab's at the bar instantly, she said this was her first night she'd been there in 20 years also! Special word of thanks and hullo goes to Josh....thx for making me feel so welcome and for the drinks lol. The place was an incredibly pleasant surprise.....techno in its various guises-ie house etc....with all of its cool intact and evolved...like crystallised but completely alive as if had been encased in amber..and let out. In a word, SLICK! in the coolest way possible. Will be going back again...this Friday. Ps-Also all the people I met and yakked too, you know who you are....God its good to see you guys.... Nik

What is wrong with Sydney's night club culture? Went there last night after going for food with friends at keg and brew and the bouncer singled me out, and said I'd had too much to drink, even though I was on antibiotics and wasn't drinking that night. Ridiculous. Think they need to employ some better security staff.

Best club in Sydney for Techno, many of the low reviews are from people used to commercial superclubs expecting this to be the same. To address the no staring policy, this is a club for techno fans to enjoy music together, not to hook up with strangers and there is a difference between looking and making people uncomfortable with staring. Club 77 is the start of a new movement and I'm sure with time people will realise how special this place is. I've been many times and will continue to come back, great work guys!

Worst night, the entrance kinda sketchy, right after i went in i smelled really really odd odour that you wouldn’t like. some of the costumers acting weird removing their upper clothes and started bothering us. like come on man couldn’t believe you guys tolerating something like that. plus, the bouncers are just like chilling at the entrance all of em, your safety is not guaranteed here. “maybe”improving management of the bouncers will help this night club improve

Owner (if you can call him that) is quite discriminatory. He refused entrance and did not provide a reason .Refused entrance for me and my friend (whilst we were both sober) and treated us like very poorly after we politely left. Once we left & ordered an Uber, we were waiting quite far away from the venue. The owner then rushed over to us (a good 20 metres away) and told us to “piss off” and sarcastically told us to have a good night. We tried to wait for our Uber but had to leave because of the owners erratic behaviour towards us. It was very disappointing & unfair treatment.

Not a place to go. The bouncer is extremely rude with zero social skills. My two friends and I were coming from a peaceful dinner next door at The Strand and we wanted to have a drink. It was 10pm. He directly insulted our appearance saying that we look intoxicated. It was very rude and totally ignorant. He is a specialist in loosing clients. Not recommend the place that receives clients with that useless attitude.

Don’t recommend this place at all…. Came with 3 other mates , all sober …. Waited in line for about 10 minutes and as we got to the front they said not tonight boys , got to love Sydney night life ! I think you need to get some new security because they are obviously blind if they kick 3 guys out who haven’t even had a drink yet. Won’t be giving this place another chance it’s just not worth it.

The drinks are typically priced but the bartenders always underpour. There's also less variety here than other places. The venue itself is quite cramped and bathrooms are maintained. Only one tap worked and only one stall had toilet paper. The bouncers always find excuses to kick you out. A friend of mine was told he was on drugs because his pupils were dilated. Everyone's pupils were dilated there because it's that dark. The music was alright but that's not saying much when most clubs play the same thing

This has been a Sydney Alternative staple Club from the beginning, I was invited to attend a DJ set ( Phill smart) 10 hour set - it was the first time I have been able to go to see a DJ set in years, ( due to ongoing health issues) I had been past this club but have never been before, so I was very surprised to finally get to descover this venue, along with my Ukrainian mate, we were greeted by friendly staff and security and had chatts with people waiting to get in as Phill smart has been a Electronic music pioneer thought the 90s Rave scene, here in Australia and overseas, I have never been to club 77 nor seen Phil Smart play , so everyone was all highly enthusiastic as to what the night will bring, We went down underground, we couldn't believe how big and homely it was , compact yet spacious, Bar and seats, divided, dance floor, packed , people from all races and sex's, gay alternative, hard core young Techo heads , mix of everyone, that is essentially what to expect when you go to electronic music events. Set up - amazing sound system, fantastic DJ equipment, friendly people, dance floor terraces , Phill smart set was absolutely amazing. As for this venue and staff, security looked after me , I did a mobile laser show , sync with the music, people came up and had a talk with me about how cool it was looking, apart from shooting the lasers in someone's face , so I had to re- adjust, and apologies, had to leave about 2am , was getting sick again, upon leaving the manger said goodbye and said thank you for being the laser show , to make the night special, the security all said goodbye, hope to see you soon, am now corresponding with manner and am invited every weekend, and we have a little talk, this has been my favourite place in Sydney, for so many reasons, I don't and cant do substance, and I cant drink alcohol or eat just about anything everyone can , and they all recognise that within everything I do and say , because when I get down , when my favourite sound hits , even though I am sick , I mean what I do and say , and give everyone my all and then some more, for all not for myself. Thanks to Tim , and Phill and all the awesome staff, for having such a great venue, and with protection if anything was to happen. International DJs and producers, Australia's best , Sydney's number 1 Electronic music venue , with an international flavour. Xxx 💗

I thought about writing this review or not, so read carefully. Sunday night, me and a group of 20 friends wanted to get in, 3 of us got inside the entrance, paid 90$. The rest of the group couldn't get in cause of the place people limit (fair enough, perfectly understandable) What I want people to note here, is that I have no idea if the club is bad or good, cause after paying the fee, we waited in reception for our friends. They all (our 20 friends) decided to move to another place, so that we could all stick together, and we (3 of us) kindly asked for a refund since we didn't even physically enter the club. We didn't leave the reception area, we still had our jackets on. The guy/girl (I am not going to assume your gender since this is a sensitive topic in 2022), has been just outright rude, told us to either get in or leave, no refunds. No refunds for 3 minutes standing in the entrance. You as a living being had the option on the Commonwealth Eftpos machine, to refund and make friends, but decided not to. At that point, I have been disrespectful, told him to duck off, with a light tap on the shoulder and a smile, and left. (I find it fair, that if you scam 90$ out of somebody, you get called names.) I am including this part since I don't lie, this is exactly what happened, and I want people to realise this isn't some dumb picky complain. I was having a good night, till then. The place looked nice, crowded, exactly what we would have looked for another night, but after this episode honestly, you've lost 20 potential customers (which usually spend money when out, when we like a venue) Keep in mind, this review is pointed straight to the door staff.

Went for an event there, really cool gig and respectful security staff. They gave a time out to one of us and when he was better up they allowed him in. However, toilet stank and zero cleaning was going on. The venue has zero ventilation and one ac unit is running the whole underground. I don't think for a paid event this was at all acceptable. It was good since it was serving a different vibe, but I wish oxygen and ventilation was on the menu and men's room stench was taken off.

I don’t know why anna rated the “bad” lights! I was spontaneously there with my girlfriend today and had an amazing time! The owner was very kind and I have never seen such clean toilets in a club. Even if it was not my kind of music, the sound of the speaker was amazing. 5 stars for sure! We are from Berlin and if anyone can judge a club then the berlins do ;)

77 is a long running institution & medium for the music loving & creative community. They've been central to the Sydney music scene for over 25 years & continue to showcase some of the best established & emerging acts & groups while exposing people to different sounds. For example, having Phil Smart do one of the only downtempo nights in Australia then having Sunday as hospitality night with Barney Kato's insane & varied curation bringing in people like Theo Parrish after he does his big show. On other nights, there are takeovers & record label showcases by various groups. Music wise it's not ultra hard BPM wise but it usually has more depth so for me, on certain nights the intensity has been insane. It's a mix of techno, techhouse, downtempo, electrohouse, tech-trance, global rhythms, melodic techno depending on who's playing but its always a pretty high calibre no matter the genre. If you want mindless thumping hard techno with no interesting melodies, no light & shade & just lasers, endless smoke machines & visuals then you'll be dissapointed. It doesn't need all these gimmicks, it's about quality music here. At its core best, 77 is the intimate venue & community for the real lovers of music. The real ravers, dj's, producers, hospitality staff, creative types, hippies & music lovers. Yet we've had lockout laws, lockdown & all sorts of hurdles to a thriving nightlife so it needs to do what it can to survive. It can get a bit touristy on Friday & Saturday nights due to its central location, lack of many other dedicated venues closeby & small size, but it's also good as you never know who you'll meet. It's not a strict Berlin type door policy ensuring its mainly music lovers making it accessible to all people so long as they aren't wasted drunk. Ambience wise it's warm & intimate with bar style seating around & a small dance floor. It gets very hot & sweaty especially when full which also adds to the atmosphere, but its not for all types of occasions & ventilation could be improved. I generally prefer Sundays here as there's room to dance. The lighting & sound are pretty good I must say. Thick bass & clear balanced sound. Lighting is subtle, minimal but ambient, just don't expect over the top crazy lasers & visuals. Often you can smell incense. The set up & lighting can change depending on who's running the night. The toilets have character. I love that the place has grit, character, characters that frequent it & top notch curation. I'm not a big alcohol drinker so can't really comment on that. It's a proper dedicated music venue, not part pub, part comedy room, part sportsbar, part poker machine room, part uni bar, part chicken parmigiana house so it attracts a certain crowd & has a more deliberate energy. Let's just say the sets don't get watered down by being held in this venue. In fact you have the setting for intimate magical sets in large part due to the music loving crowd that frequent here. Ideally it would be bigger, maybe with an outdoor courtyard space & second room to give it more versatility, space to dance & different types of social interaction but it's done well with the space it has. The staff here act like people & get to know you over time so it feels more personal. They aren't power tripping, egotistical or hating their life so it feels welcoming unlike some venues. I've observed them over time especially when dealing with drunk or disorderly people & they've been stern but fair. Club 77 is one of the only dedicated venues in Sydney with a soul. I've had many inspiring, magical & insanely memorable nights there. Not every time, but many times. Well done!

Not sure why the reviews are so bad, I had a great night! The staff were super sweet (p.s. helped me out when a random dude was being inappropriate & checked in on us too), the music was a bop, the drinks were slightly diluted though so I hope they stop doing that, but overall a 10/10 of a night!

The club itself is enjoyable. I appreciate the DJs and the crowd. However, the security is subpar. On my second visit with my uncle, they denied him entry based on his Hispanic background, despite us being completely sober. The security guard’s comment, “not today buddy, you’re too drunk,” was unwarranted. It’s disheartening for a club of this size to act in such a manner. My suggestion is to ensure security is adequately compensated, so they don’t let their egos influence their work. I’m genuinely disappointed with how the club boasts about “equality” on their website but fails to uphold these values in reality. It’s disheartening to witness such a contrast between their claims and actions.

If you are spanish and aim to entry, guards are really classist, bartenders dont give your as much drinks as you order and they suggest you to get water before getting drinks. I didn't come to Sydney to find a second partent. This place is really good for techno for barernets and service is really annoying. Be aware and have fun if coming. BR

Good music. However my friend shut his eyes and rested his head on my friends shoulder because… he’s human… and seccy kicked him out because he’s “too sleepy”. Really unprofessional and petty.

One of Australia's best nightclubs. Go on a Sunday night to join a bunch of lovely people of all backgrounds and sexualities dancing together and sweating it out to fantastic local and international DJs :)

Tbh, this place is one of my favs to spend a few hours. It's hot, sweaty and just a unique place to chill out. Not for everyone, but defently worth giving it a go that's for sure!! Staff are friendly, positive vibes around the club Music is different, not your average hip hop, rnb, it's like techno, not my type but this place makes me enjoy it! Can't wait to come again, cheers ?

Great to see this historic Sydney club on fire again. The owners have gone to great lengths to bring it back to its former glory, albeit with a fresh, forward facing and inclusive vision. Check out Thursday‘s Tempo Comodo nights for something a little bit different. Let’s go slow!

Awesome music!! The venue is small and intimate, a bit hot but it all adds to the vibe! Drinks could be better - very watered down, but I guess most people are coming for the party anyways. Friendly staff!

Just wanted to come here and let everyone know that my experience at club 77 outrageously good. I had problem with my ID and service NSW app, but the security were so kind and attentive and helped resolve this issue. Resident advisor was right, definitely club of the week, straight tracks were played.

Awesome techno club in a basement. There’s only the one room with a Dj and it’s not very big, but has a good vibe and fun crowd. The tunes were great when we went, bartenders were a little cooked but nice. Very dive bar kinda place with a side room that had some chill area. If you sign up to their “guest list” on the website you might be able to skip the line to get in.

👍 Made a booking and we were told we can stay for 1.5 hours. No issues. We ended up staying longer, thanks to one of the lovely host giving us another 30 minutes to stay.
