To me, this place is known as Maxwell Hill, but in the last few decades, they have used Bukit Larut instead. I would prefer if they maintained the original name for historical purposes. It's a beautiful hill, popular with trekkers & hikers, which takes about 4-5 hours to walk up. There used to be a land rover service up, but it stopped temporarily because of a landslide. I visited to do some birdwatching here with a group, but we walked up only 5 minutes. Again, this is a lovely place to visit if you love nature. And there's no fee charged here. Toilets and local food shops available. Parking is also free.

Too much construction is wreaking the beauty and ecology of this beautiful hill. Why building so many concrete stairs for unnecessary short cuts. This will cause more erosion. Just maintain the road. Everyone can hike safely. Keep the hills clean. You can pack it in, you can pack it out. If you want to climb stairs or elevator go to the malls. Peace to Taiping.

Great place to hike and embrace the beauty of nature. As of now there are no available services to bring people up to the summit by jeep, (which would be available next year). It would take about 3 hours to reach the top. But unfortunately, I only reached the halfway point. I will definitely, return to try and reach the top.

Bukit Larut in Perak, also known as Maxwell Hill. Apparently it is the first and oldest hill resort in Malaysia, founded in 1870 and named after British resident assistant George Maxwell. Nice place with lots of nature. Locals enjoyed hiking up the hill every evening as a form of exercise. Tourists going up the hill may rent the jeeps that will bring them to their preferred hotel/resort up there.

Visited on 24 Mar 2023 1. Remember to register (time in & out) at the entrance/guardhouse for emergency & safety purpose 2. Local aunties/uncles will go in the morning/evening to exercise, chit chat & enjoy tea time max. till Watermelon Station 3. There's toilet at Pondok 3 (Hut #3) 4. You can almost have the entire area for private dining/picnic at 1,036m view. No littering. 5. Do decide whether to continue the walk to telco tower (no scenic view) 6. The weather changes quickly & gets chilly at 1,036m, so be prepared to descend in case of heavy downpour in the afternoon/evening (average 3 hrs walk downhill) 7. Average duration is 7-8 hrs depending on your pace & stops in between to rest, take pictures, admiring the view & cool breeze. Do bring sufficient water (min 1.5 to 2 litres) or reliable water filter, food/snacks, umbrella/raincoat. 8. Hiking stick is optional if you are on the tar road. I didn't take it with me. Was eerie to hear (non-friendly sound) of birds/animals as you go deeper although for brief moment. 9. Bitten by huge mosquitoes. Almost got attacked by wasp/bee that came out from nowhere. 10. This is a journey to discover abandoned scenic views (treasure hunt mode), no restaurants & jeep service at the moment. The tar road do need repair & landslide prone areas were covered with canvas, some fallen trees clinged on to electricity pole wires, dilapidated infra/facilities. Do explore Bukit Larut on foot to experience what it used to be during its glory days.

Great place for an uphill walk in the jungle with plenty of wildlife to be seen - long way to the top quite a few hours though most people don't go all the way or just pay for a vehicle to take them up. All paved as it's a road bit like Fraser's Hill road though not in the best state overall plus landslides are pretty common. Plenty of parking round the bottom and places to buy food and drink there too.

Great place for hiking.. It took 20-30 mins for us to reach the peak via jungle steep pathway about elevation 1.6kmโ€ฆ Some hikers have marked the trees from number 1 to number 10.. So you roughly will know how much you have covered and how long more to reach the peakโ€ฆ But If you take the tar-paved track, which is around 14.4km, it will be about 3 hours to reach the peak they saidโ€ฆ

It's very cool weather here. And who are interested hiking can head to this place. But don't expect this year on Land Rover. As I got information this 2022 will not have land Rover ( by jeep ) transportation. Weeknd it's worth to spend. There are restaurants at starting down means Maxwell admin office. As of now no official team when I visited.

I had the ATV ride experience here at the Bukit Larut ATV ride. It cost me RM150 for an hour ride per person. The terrain are comparatively low-sloped but there are some some challenging slopes along the way. A guide is there to help and show the way. There is a pitstop at a beautiful clear stream halfway through the ride. I had a real nice half-dip into the stream and enjoyed a drink there. It was one of the most serene and peaceful place that I have been. Do check it out. We just don't know how long it is there or would still be in the same condition.

Still a breathtaking place for a scenery. Lots of monkeys here since there's not so much people coming as before. Make sure you not caring any plastic bags because those monkeys always attract to it. But most importantly please throw your rubbish at the proper place.

There is no 4x4 vehicle available at the moment as all seems to be broken... I am wondering how the management plans to run the tourism at that place if they are expecting tourists to hike the hill This place does not have enough parking space... Either come here early to get a parking space or use e-hailing service... Hiking to the top of Bukit larut will take 1.5 - 2 hours, so get prepared... There are fyew resting spots prepared... Hikers are very friendly... Best to hike early morning... According to local management, their 4x4 vehicles will be ready by next year but no any date yet. Local stalls are there and food are good.

I really enjoyed the view so much. The air is refreshing and the place is beautiful. We took the jeep to go up the hill and it was an exciting ride. But be reminded that the ride is not for the faint heart. They drive the jeep in maximum speed to go uphill and there are a lot of sharp turns and hill edges. It is advisable not to have any meals if you choose to ride the jeep. There are public restroom and restaurant up the hill. It's also a good place to hike during the weekends. It is rewarding to arrive at the top of the hill after a long hike.

Walking up to hill top will need a bit more time ...If local government operator able to provide electric car (environmental friendly) in regular trip for visitors to ride to hill top, especially senior citizens who can't walk too long and too far. In case tired, can take a ride back to entrance area. The electric car can collect fee for 2 ways.
