St. Olaf’s Church or St. Olav's Church (Estonian: Oleviste kirik) in Tallinn, Estonia, is believed to have been built in the 12th century and to have been the centre for old Tallinn's Scandinavian community before Denmark conquered Tallinn in 1219. Its dedication relates to King Olaf II of Norway (also known as Saint Olaf, 995–1030). The first known written records referring to the church date back to 1267. It was extensively rebuilt during the 14th century.

A must see in Tallinn. It's a simple building anchored by its towering spire which would've made folks in the 13th century look up in awe. It's not a thin spire but a substantial bell tower with heft to it. Love the primarily white walls which focuses the worshipper towards the altar. The church's floor is wooden and creaks as you walk through it which adds a nice feel to it. Free to enter.

Please check church timings. It’s not open all day. Also, going to the top is restricted atm due to Covid.

The Gothic steeple of this church previously made the church the tallest building in the world. The steps leading to the platform are steep and very narrow. But you will be rewarded with a stunning view of the city.

Fantastic view, must see in Tallin. The entrance fee is very low but the experience is priceless.

An architecturally noteworthy church whose main and strongly recommended attraction is the terrace up the steeple. The path is not exactly dangerous but it requires a healthy amount of care and attention but once on top the view is just great, stretching from the harbour to the old town and beyond.

One of the best orthodox churches in the old town. Highly recommend going up the tower for some spectacular views of Tallinn. Steep winding stairs and can get busy during summer weekends.

In the lower town you could find this majestic chuck wich its tower could be seeing from every part of the city thanks to its 124 metres high. It's a mandatory visit on your trip and you will nor be disappointed because the views are one of the best in the city. Get up to the top could be difficult, and and tough time but it worth it.

Very impressive church. The tower is very high. Be prepared to climb a lot of stairs to reach to the top. But the views you will get at top are worth it. Stairs are narrow at places so you have to wait for others to pass. When i visited there was a concert going on in the church. Great acoustics must say.

St Olaf’s Church has been part of Tallinn since the 1200s, with the Scandinavian-built church named in honor of King Olaf II of Norway. It’s a Baptist church and it opens daily between 10am and 6pm. This place also offers one of the best views of Tallinn’s old town that you can find. Which is great if you’re not scared of heights.

Well worth the visit and a great view from the top of the tower. The climb up the stairs is a struggle and you may feel out of breath. It's possible to go round the top, but there are some very narrow pathways so be warned if you are on the chubby side...

Climbing the tower was a nice experience. We climbed approx 260 steps. there is a place with chairs halfway up. You can climb safely, I don't know if it is suitable for small children or the elderly. the view of the city is beautiful. the entrance has a cost of €5 per person. no reservation is necessary.

For only €5 it is a bargain for such a good view. Yes, you need to take a lot of stairs, but there are ropes alongside the staircase, so no worries it is not that bad, you get up there earlier then you would expect.

The price of 3€ for students and 5€ for adults is totally justified for the view you have from the top! The stairs can be quite tall and narrow but on most parts, 2 people fit side by side easily. However one major issue we had here was the fact that you can only pay cash. In a highly digitalized country like Estonia, this is not understandable. We even had to leave to get cash because we never thought that we’d need cash in the heart of Tallinn.

Pictures are taken on 19.10.2022. Really nice view from the tower. If you want to enjoy it be ready to climbing "several" stairs. There is 5 euro fee.

It is a true challenge to go until the top of the tower, but it really worth for this insanely amazing view of the city :) Be careful that you need to climb almost 300+ step stone spiral stairs to the top of the tower and the experience and the views were amazing. We've had free entrance with Tallinn Card. If you can physically capable if climbing all the stairs, then you have to do this for sure, you won't regret it 👍😂

Climbing the top to have a 360 degree panoramic view of Tallinn is well worth of the effort. The observation deck 60 meters above the ground, actually very easy to climb.

This Gothic church was once the tallest building in the world dating back to 1267. The church was dedicated to king Olaf II of Norway. Mass is still held here on Sundays. Admission is free.

One of the have to visit spot in Tallinn. It's a good clime up with circular rock stairs way (≅35cm) x (≅250steps), The Church is free to enter but the tower needs a ticket. Totally worth it.

Nice church in the center of Tallinn. Steep climb to the top of the bell tower ( entry €5), but well worth it on a clear day

If you carry a 10-15 kg backpack, it’s definitely not a good idea to climb 60 meters of stairs. But there’s a satisfaction at the end, the view is beautiful and it’s quiet. If you don’t like getting out of your comfort zone, don’t start the climb.

Beautiful views.Amazing framing inside the tower,if you are into construction!

The church is plain and simple on the inside but impressive due to it's height. To go inside it's for free, only to go up to the tower you have to pay, but definitely worth it. You have a beautiful 360° view from there, after you climbed ~260 steps. Highly recommended to go up to the top.

Why do we have to pay money for visiting a religious site? This is ridiculous. The place is gorgeous by the way. The church is seen from everywhere in old town of Tallinn.

St. Olaf’s church is a really beautiful church to visit, which is located just 7 minutes walking distance from the Old town Main Square, and it’s really nice to visit specially because you can climb the 123 meters high tower, with a narrow and kind of scared spiral staircase made in stones, that gives a little “adventure” feeling, but it’s totally worth when you get to the top and see the beautiful view from Tallinn old town city. We didn’t pay entrance fee to see the church, however if you decide to climb the staircase tower you need to pay a small fee, we paid 2 euros back in 2017. Eli: 5 / Serge: 5 Recommended: Yes, even if you decide to not climb the staircase Tower, it’s a beautiful 12th century church to visit. Tips: - Comfortable shoes are recommended, specially if you decide to climb the staircase tower; - If you are afraid of heights, do not start to climb the tower, it’s kind of scared. - Check on line the church open hours and if you prefer to visit without a tour guide, as we did, it’s always nice to read a little about the history of the church, even in Wikipedia.

Amazing view from the top of church tower, 268steps 60meters ascend from group floor, not easy as the stair are steep like any other church tower, once you arrive the top, it's so worth

Must visit with small fee to go up to the top! Try to avoid crowded time since the stair is mainly narrow and limited space on the rooftop. It would take around 10 mins or so from the bottom to the top. If you are "Acro/ Claustro-phobia" you should skip and give up this spot. If you bring your binocular, yes! you enjoy 360 degree view from the top and see Baltic sea with ships! When raining, oh poor, I say also skip this place and enjoy some underground museums instead. Before lunch time, why not you exercise a bit here and enjoy great food in Tallinn!

I came here for a concert, and the church was gorgeous. Beautiful art work, old rustic feel, and generally very cool to see.

Beware of narrow and slippy staircase. It may also get crowded when the tour bus comes, quite tough. But after this hardship, you can enjoy a great view from the tower. It's rewarding.
