A lovely museum to spend an hour or two and learn the history of Tallinn. And the lady was so nice when explaining the museum to me. She couldn't have been more helpful. And a reasonable entrace fee as well.

Small museum, but very interesting. The interactive activities make it a nice time there.

Tallinn City Museum located in the old town is an interesting place to visit. It offers different expositions explaining the life, history and culture of the city from the Middle-Age untill the Contemporary Era. I recommend to stop-by once coming to visit Tallinn even for the reasonable price of its tikets.

We enjoyed this place and we will come back because we haven't finished watching the "Indecent Tallinn" exhibition (had to rush so we don't lose the transport). The staff was nice and the museum was very interesting.

Tells the story of Tallinn in an honest and interesting way. The exhibits are varied, it's not all antiquities although there are lots. I particularly enjoyed a the section where there is an interactive display called 'what other people say about us' or something along those lines. There were four main headings two of which were alcohol and bagpipes, which speaks to me as a Scotsman! There was an account from a German guy in the 1500's (I think could have been another date) who said words to the effect of 'you can stand and tell them how to do a thing better for 10 minutes or 10 hours. They'll calmly and patiently listen to you but once you are finished they'll return to doing their task exactly as they were doing it before.' 😁

It is worth visiting as their collection is good and interesting. However some of the display explanations were not good. The porcelain collection in the basement had each item numbered but there was no label anywhere that told you about it so it lacked context. There was only a general label on the glass that was for all the items in that display case. In another area there were signs to read but half of them were so dimly lit as to make them unreadable.

A nice little gem for history lovers. Very unassuming when you walk in, but the museum has four floors of exhibits. Don’t miss the basement or the top floor for 18+. It was very educational. I particularly enjoyed the section on guildsmen and how the old guild systems work. Now I know where the title “journeymen” comes from. 🤔

Beautiful house very well preserved Enjoyed learning about merchant class and economic history Weird exhibit on history of prostitution in Tallinn was poorly explained and overly provocative Most disappointing and seemingly biased was lack of a description of the Jewish community in Tallinn both before WW2 and their murder nearby during the war.

Little museum with puppetry way of depicting things and making it a little fun for kids. The top floor was a bit weird and only in Estonian and 18 plus. Don't expect much of the museum as such...

Parts of the exhibition are not very interesting (lots of porcelain) and some of the more interesting parts of the historic exhibits are not well lit.

Did not really enjoy the varying and messy sequence of the exhibition but it did give a good overview of the start of the city and the various stages of the city during the initial days. The entry isn’t that expensive and I think it’s worth going to take a look for about an hour if you have time to spare!

Very interesting and enjoyable, includes stuff like the history of Tallin, various objects from all kinds of ages (pottery, tin and etc.). Another floor explains all the different occupations and life of people more in medieval times. The top floor also includes a 18+ exhibition. Overall I'd definitely recommend. The museum includes books/qr codes or such for people with other languages to still enjoy the information. Happy sightseeing.

Wow !! This is truly a gem !! You would never expect this when you walk into the small entrance. So much to see and experience. So many floors and also downstairs. It was the best surprise to see things about life in Tallin over the centuries. Nicely done !!

Wonderful place and a must see! One of the best museums in Tallinn, it is a very old building though with steep steps and no elevators so if you have mobility problems it isn't for you.

Excellent little museum detailing the history of Tallin and its citizens. Lots of artifacts through the ages and good detail on the governance of the city and influences. Not sure about the handbag exhibition but it was clearly described. The portraits of Alexander II and Nicholas II are impressive. For those in Tallin the first weekend of the month bear in mind that all Tallin City Museums (they are listed) are free to visit the first Sunday of every month. Interesting

We went to Sexcursion around the streets in Old Town and it finished with exhibition visiting in the City Museum. Sweet small museum. The Sexcursion they offer is great - nice walk in the Old Town with a guide sharing some interesting and juicy stories from Tallinn.

A nice way to get to know the history of Tallinn is a visit to the City Museum. English translations are available for all the exhibitions.

It's such an amazing museum with great employees! We had so much fun there, especially because you can both study the history of the city and entertain yourself with the special 18+ exhibition on the last floor :)

Nice and interesting museum. It includes a lot of information about the history of the city of Tallinn. It is easy to spend a couple of hours navigating yourself around. The number of the artifacts and the exhibitions is big and the information provided in the texts is sufficient. The location is perfect inside the old town and for sure worth a visit.

We went on Sunday and it was a pleasant surprise to find out it was free! The history of Tallinn was very interesting but the the exhibit about the music coming from Finland during the USSR occupation was really exceptional. As a North American, we really have no idea what it was like living under Soviet oppression. It's just so important to talk to Estonians and learn about their experiences and how freshly they feel such pride in their regained independence.

This is a really nice museum about the history of Tallinn! When you have walked around in the city before visiting this museum, you recognize a lot of the old city center. Highly recommended! :-)

I appreciated learning a little of Estonia’s history here. They have a tough story of conquest by successive occupiers. The displays seem a little disjointed but I feel I got a good look at their history.

The museum was absolutely lovely! The staff made us feel very welcome and they kept us entertained with lots of further information and were willing to answer the multitude of questions we asked, making sure none of them were left unanswered. The museum itself was very enjoyable, lots of interesting history to uncover and the variety of displays certainly keeps you entertained.

I loved it. Don't know if it is same for foreigners, as I am Estonian, but it was so interesting to see how my home town developed. It took some time as the exhibition was big enough.

👍👍 Where have these people been who have given Proto only one star?! We had amazing time with my 21-year-old son. Yes, 21. So it's definitely not just for kids. Yes, there was lines, and yes some of the attractions didn't work yet. But have you people ever been in Disneyland? You might need to stand in...
