The Fried Omusubi(rice ball) is special made for us up by request. Not on the menu. We showed the picture to chief asked for it. And he made it happen. It was a really sweet move. The dinning environment is really welcome. And you won’t find any restaurant open after 19:00 in the area. If you looking for a place to hang. This is the spot. Vegan friendly. Plenty plum wine options.

Absolutely delicious food in a very traditional and local Izakaya. Small selection of mostly chicken (and chicken parts) on the English menu, Japanese has more options. The tofu is to die for - and I'm allergic to soy. I didn't die, but if I did, I'd have died happy. It is made locally - literally by a bloke who lives up the road. For sides, the radish salad is incredible (get the dressing) as was the yam. As a foreigner, if you go, it might be best to research customs on how to order Izakaya. I don't think i offended anyone too much, but to the chef, I apologise deeply for any offense caused, you are a handsome and hardworking man. Come for the genuine local experience, ambience and food. You can't get much more 'real Japan' than this. It is a short and pleasant after dinner walk to most local Ryokan and Minshuku.

Charming little izakaya for anyone holidaying at this onsen town. The owner is so warm and friendly and always has a smile when you walk through the door. Great hidden gem of traditional izakaya food.

A small and cosy place with a wonderful host and cook! Try the liver and heart yakitoris as well as the neck-meat yakitori. Enjoy warm sake on a cold winter evening and simply feel good. A very memorable meal!

I do not understand the last opinion of Daniel. Indeed we are a French family camper in the area of KAWAYU HOT SPRING at the beginning of May and we have been very very well received in this restaurant. On top of that the food was delicious, especially the rice and tofu from the region's producer. I can only recommend to all foreigners traveling in the area who do not speak Japanese to eat at this restaurant run by helpful and charming people. Thanks again for this good time Arnaud Maria Lou and Rose

Very nice yakitori restaurant with a friendly owner. It is about 15 minutes walk from Yunomine Onsen on a side road (no cars) so easy to visit for a good dinner

The owner is really nice! Awesome hospitality and English menus available. The owner was nice enough to give us explanations on what the choices in the menu were and the recommended ways to eat the dishes.. Also great for vegetarians since oden is available. The tofu varieties of this place are awesome! Thank you!

I would definitely NOT recommend this restaurant if you did not reserve it. We were a group of 8 people, without reservation, but asked kindly to the manager if it was OK to seat and eat/drink. He said it was OK, when actually everything went wrong!!! We waited for nearly 2 hours for them to bring our food. We had to order twice! Because apparently the waiter did not understand it the first time (even if we know he perfectly did since we checked the order with him twice, and we did order in perfect Japanese since one person of our group speak Japanese fluently ...). The waiter did serve the other tables around us but not our table. Several times! With exactly the same yakitori that we did order... But not our group. After 2 hours (I think that's more than enough time!) we left without eating the full order. Just paying for our drinks. I explained how furious we were in English (I don't know if he understood it) but I made myself very clear that it wasn't OK AT ALL! We were a very kind, discret, quiet and young group. With money to pay and very impatient to spend a good moment with friends... It's such a shame because we know Japanese great service and we are well used to it. I guess that will be the first time (I hope the last one!) we experience a bad service in a Japanese restaurant. In the front door you can read "foreigners welcome"... Well, we were clearly NOT! It's such a shame. Really.

Nice cosy place for a good traditional Japanese dinner. We don’t eat meat but this place have some very good food. The radish salad and home made tofu are yummy.😋 Goes well with the warm sake.

All chicken skewers are very recommended, very juicy. Outer layer of fat is grilled into a crispy pocket, inside is tender chicken with full of meaty flavour. Will visit again!

This is more like a tapas and drinking bar than a place for a meal. Small dishes in a loud environment. Very busy and popular. Our order got lost and only half of what we ordered arrived. Then wanted to charge us all in full. No english speaking but we understood in the end. Food was well done but not what we needed after a long day walk.

Great food and friendly people. Upon taking a seat at the bar, Chef asked if I'd maybe like to sit over with some local folks and I was welcomed warmly.
