The place has a lot of beers, excellent variety and quality. I was already planning on giving a good review and to make it better, I forgot my bag then and they were so kind to keep it safe for me!

For the TLDR: generation: Brilliant specialty beer pub with very nice and knowledgeable staff in a cosy environment! For every one else: Wandered in here without knowing it was a specialty beer pub (walked around the city, started getting thirsty, noticed people drinking on a terrace, so walked in). Only to be greeted by a very homely pub, with all the signs and menus showing that it, indeed, was a specialty beer pub 😃. What followed was a _very_ pleasant two hours of my life, which only remained two hours, because they were closing early on Sundays... Boo... 😁 Hiss...😁 One of the first things I noticed was a cat walking around, which turned out to be the housecat, and which was imaginatively called "Cat"😁. Very friendly animal, frequently jumping up customers laps to be petted and stroked. Only mentioning this because it enhanced the already homely atmosphere the pub was radiating. Had (amongst others) the most amazing sour beer there, which was incidentally also a local beer (kudos Grutte Pier 👍). I liked it so much I asked if I could take home a couple of bottles, but they didn't have the license to sell beers to be taken away. They did however provide me with a name and a map to the local booze supply shop, which might still have and sell these bottles. Thank you 😘! All in all an enormously pleasant experience, and one that made me decide to come back to the city of Leeuwarden (which was an unexpected positive surprise anyway) and to this pub! Wir sind durch einen Tipp auf einer Insider Seite Leewarden auf dieses Biercafé gestoßen. Waren super gespannt was uns da erwartet da wir nur gutes gelesen haben und beide große Bierliebhaber sind. Angekommen waren wir erstmal sehr angetan von dem Ambiente und der Aufmachung. Wie in einem Pub. Herrlich. Bei der Bestellung haben wir leider schon gemerkt das die Sympathie mit dem Kellner leider nicht übereinstimmte. Dachten uns aber, das wird bestimmt. Bei der nächsten Bestellungen hatten wir dann schon das Gefühl das der Kellner eher wollte das wir die Rechnung bestellen anstatt eine neue Runde Bier. Sehr schade denn wir wollten einige Sorten testen. Nach 3 Runden war es uns so unangenehm das wir bezahlt haben und gegangen sind. NACHTRAG: Nach der Rezension sind die Inhaber Menno & Michelle persönlich nochmal auf uns zugekommen und haben die Situation mit uns zusammen und dem Mitarbeiter aufgearbeitet und haben sich für den Vorfall aufrichtig entschuldigt. Sowas verdient unsere höchste Anerkennung!! Dadurch bleibt das Speciaalbier Café de Markies nun doch noch in guter Erinnerung. Danke !!!😊😊

Einfach toll, super sympathischer Gastgeber, riesige Auswahl an verschiedenen Bieren vom Fass, aus der Flasche und Dose. Unbedingt ein Besuch wert in Leeuwarden!

Royal assortiment of beers, friendly personel and fair pricing. You should go here. Over the past 20 years, I've been returning to this pub every few months (wish I had more spare time) and always left happy, satisfied and willing to come back soon. That should be your incentive to go. Do it!

A nice couple of hours spend here on Saturday night - some excellent beers on tap and convivial atmosphere. Well worth tracking down.

Great place. Huge selection of beers both international and local. Good selection of appetisers to go with the beers. Nice atmosphere and great decoration. Friendly staff. They even stayed open a bit longer on a slow night so we could stay, which is really nice. Would recommend. (En dat ik een level 6 local guide ben was geen grap ;).)

Simply the best craft beer joint in Leeuwarden. We found our favorite beers from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands! (Also, the best bitterballen) Super friendly staff, and we even met the owners.

Cool inside bar with a lot of beers. Unfortunately all beers are overpriced.

When in Leeuwarden, a must visit! The owners and staff can tell you everything about beers and will have a nice beer you like for you. When you're from around, a perfect place to meet up with friend and play a game :)
