This is a must visit place for all Ayutthaya travellers. Actually this should be the starting point. This wonderful interactive museum will give you a glimpse on the history of Ayutthaya. The original gold ornaments and Buddhist equipments will help you understand that why people from all around the world at some point in history felt like staying in Ayutthaya. The museum has an internal WiFi. It has its own app. The museum displays are tagged with qr codes. Install the app on your phone. Get a pair of earphones. Scan the codes and listen on. Take your time. Seat on the benches. Feel the history. This museum will enrich your entire Ayutthaya visit. The entire town will make more meaning to you after you step out from this museum.

My two cents about this museum:- 1. The surrounding was clean and well taken care of, 2. Overall GOOD amount of display items. However, when I was there, quite a number items were borrowed by other museums and why it seem like everything lump together? 3. (Very) lack of Thai to English translation. Better description of an item would give us a better understanding of the wats and the old city. 4. Quite a lot of school children were there. I suspect this venue is kind of like an education centre too. 5. Should have at least 1 guide or person which can tell you a story/ guide in this museum. Sadly, even the relics rooms (2 rooms) PICs are busy with their handphone without much paying attention to you/ your questions. 6. Besides the main building, the 2nd and 3rd (Thai traditional house) buildings had no visitor in it, none English translation of the artifacts and no one at the counter. 7. Should be a first stop to visitor when visiting this old city. So "very" much improvement needed.

From a whole day going around in this ancient rich area the museum was a major positive blast. Jaw dropping objects can be found here! I seen only half of everything and it is hardly to grasp for me what a major collection dear rama 9 and his people display here. Words cannot discribe and pictures cannot display the importance of this museum. This history is so powerful and amazing. I wish i could go back right now but it is in the middle of the night and the museum is surely closed. I had an amazing day... i HAVE to study more and use my heart to understand what we are allowed to experiance in this area and museum. Beware you will have to take time to be able to see the ancient beauty. You will have to take your best self and all the good intentions you have to in order to understand only a little part of what is left of this megalitich past. The people who have build this land/country and these temples have suffered and worked so hard!!! Let buddha and his people take you on an adventure that will change your life. I am only allowed to display and share a little part here (there are treasure area's where we are NOT allowed to photograph for all the obvious reasons). In fact no where in the museum you are allowed to record video. Flash lights are strictly forbidden (you might damage its richness). Wear socks and not everything is wheelchair accessable. Logically the personell in this museum is more than willing to help you experiance its beauty and importance, please be patient. Take a whole day if you can for this museum and dont forget to sit outside and drink a cup of coffee, tea or snack. They have excellent treats and drinks at the parkinglot. Please enjoy and open your heart and mind before going! There are specialist tour guides to help you understand Thai and all objects displayed! Ask at the reception or call the museum for more info! For starters scan the bar code in my photos and install the museum app on your smartphone. You will also find info on the science museum there!

Chao Sam Phraya National Museum is the first Museum that has made from his Majesty King Rama IV preamble from the discovery of Buddha amulets and gold ornaments worth an enormous amount in a tenures Phra Prang in Wat Ratcha Burana restored in Ayutthaya in 1957. At that time his Majesty the king. and her Majesty the queen came and saw the artifacts found along and then have the royal remark to the Minister of Education and the Fine Arts Department at the time that: "Antiques and art objects in the repository of restored Phra Prang in Wat Ratcha Burana was reserved a museum to preserve and display for the public , It shouldn’t be preserved and displayed in the other. " Later on 10th December 1958, when the Fine Arts Department tunneled down to the tenures of Wat Ratcha Burana for route people to visit the murals are available area of wall paneling 4 sides easily. They unearthed another seven paneled wainscoting panels all Buddha images and many hundreds thousands individually of them. The Department of Education has approved the request for donations from the public by give the votive gifts for finance the construction of a building to safekeeping in the National Museum and exhibit artifacts from Wat Ratcha Burana by named "Chao Sam Phraya National Museum" to commemorate His Majesty 2nd Rachadhiratch (Chao Sam Phraya), who established Wat Ratcha Burana.

A small room of jewelery that cannot be photographed has dozens of precious gold, ruby, sapphire, and crystal treasures. There is a big crocodile in the pond. Never approach! sadly closed when I was in Ayutthaya, for only 2 nights in Sept.22. Closed from July-Dec.2022 for reasons in sign on gate as per pic. att. There may not be another time for me as a result. Had to make do with National Museum in Bangkok. This is supposed to be good however. Mid-rating only as closed obviously (Google did have it as permanent closure, now ät least updated)

The main museum is closed for renovation, but there was a large exhibition of gold and reliquary artifacts found inside the surrounding temples. Very very well designed exhibits with informative descriptions. 150 for foreigners.

Nice collection of gold items retrieved from the ruins. But the museums needs to improve in the story telling. The first room with golden objects in the first building has some explanations and history. The rest is just a simple description of items. On second building you only have thai descriptions. But everything had its qr code. It might be more info there...

More than meets the eye. Entrance fee of 150THB.. with an extensive collection of gold artifacts and art displayed in secure vaults. No photography permitted in the vaults. Slightly off the beaten track.. but still central to everything. Expect to spend about an hour here.

If you enjoy learning about the past, different cultures and what was compared to what is, this is most certainly the place for you. It's really hot out that way so it's advisable to take a hat and a good pair of sunglasses. Enjoy. Well worth the trip. ⚘

Nice museum with lots of artefacts rescued from various temples around Ayutthaya. At 150 baht per person not too expensive and takes about an hour to see all 3 buildings which make up the museum.

This museum shares the history of Sukhothai. It also predicates the importance of Buddhism, Hinduism, and the evolution of Thai scripts and consonants. It's a must for Southeast Asian historians, enthusiasts, researchers like myself, and those in security studies, politics, and international relations. If we want to learn why there are wars today, perhaps we need to understand history. I summarised in just two words, "greed-jealousy", that's spellbound in our exploits, even today.

Museum houses the royal gold from Wat Ratchaburna. Great installation. The collection is spread over several small galleries, with frequent videos to explain and give closeups of the jewels. If you can't get enough gold in your life, go.

Surprisingly the most prettiest and well organized museum that I’ve seen in Thailand!! If you are really into Ayutthaya historical then you shouldn’t miss it here. The ticket for local is 30thb which is more reasonable than other ancient temple in Ayutthaya. They kept the remaining 20-30% of heritage gold that they found in the temple, the other remaining got stolen. Free ticket for senior over 60 ;)

It's an excellent museum that has very good collection of royal gold ornaments and utilities, wonderful golden antiques taken out from the crypt of ratchaburana temple and few more devotee offerings to the other temples. It also gives you information and pictures how bad all these temple complexes were before the restoration and the hardwork that has gone to get into the current state of the stupas. There's also ceramic imprint of the paintings from the crypt of ratchaburana which are fading away completely.

I am as foreigner who seek a bit of history about the debris of temples that lies all over Ayutthaya.. This really conventional like museum. Cannot give any knowledge except: hiring professional guide, or and buying the book.. This museum only able to be fully function for the locals.. maybe.. The staff cannot speak English in explaining level, only memorize for necessary admission matter (and the admission staff was not nice and not accommodating). I am sure all of the collections they have are precious, but because no proper meaningful explanation, it become meaningless.. I suggest u to make it more interesting, with stories, with audio and visual facilities, like they did in ChiangMai City Arts & Cultural Centre .. Bring the visitor return to d past, as if we are in that age.. Make our B150 admission fee worth it..

(Translated by Google) Xenophobia is practiced here in its purest form. Don't come here because you are not welcome here. Here you are discriminated against because of your origin. The sign at the entrance proves it. As a “foreigner” you have to pay five times the price for no reason. Usually this costs 30 baht but because it's 150. Really a big slap in the face for every “foreigner” who loves Thailand and its seemingly friendly inhabitants. Is that the Thai way of hospitality? If you complain because you are not ready to be discriminated against, there will soon be ten locals around you, who all explain that this is completely okay and you should just pay. As a “foreigner” you are treated like a dog who does not want to see that it is a dog. Ugh, ugh, ugh. Just don't go in here and don't let yourself be discriminated against. Ugh, ugh, ugh. Pfui, pfui, pfui.

Presentation is pretty good in a minimalist way, So there's not a lot of exhibit but lots of detailed view of gold artifacts. Some English signs on most. There will be 50+ school kids on excursion there. That's good. The wi-fi didn't work so all the Q-code signs were useless. That's bad.

Rude pushy staff at the entrance pushing for ticket buying when we haven't even entered yet, and then no explanations or guidance eg about what are exhibited in the other 2 buildings. Contains the golden objects found in Wat Maha that and Ratchaburana with relatively detailed English information boards and many smaller Buddha images and other artifacts with not much information. Not a great museum unfortunately.
