"Rama
VIII
Bridge"
is
a
cable-stayed
bridge
that
spans
the
13th
segment
of
the
Chao
Phraya
River
in
the
Bangkok
Metropolitan
Region.
It
features
a
single
pylon
and
connects
with
the
elevated
Borommaratchachonnani
Twin
Bridges,
spanning
the
Chao
Phraya
River
near
the
Bang
Yai
Khan
Distillery
(currently
the
location
of
the
Special
Projects
Coordination
Office,
initiated
by
the
Royal
Initiative
and
the
Chai
Pattana
Foundation).
The
bridge
is
located
in
the
Bang
Yai
Khan
sub-district,
Bang
Phlat
district,
near
the
intersection
with
Wisutthikasattri
Road,
close
to
the
Bank
of
Thailand
in
the
Sam
Phra
Ya
sub-district,
Phra
Nakhon
district,
Bangkok.
This
bridge
was
initiated
by
the
Royal
Initiative
under
the
reign
of
King
Bhumibol
Adulyadej
when
he
visited
the
traffic-related
issues
on
the
Rama
VIII
Bridge,
named
after
his
elder
brother,
King
Ananda
Mahidol.
The
construction
was
ordered
on
July
15,
2538
B.E.,
to
alleviate
the
traffic
congestion
on
the
Rama
VIII
Bridge
and
facilitate
transportation
between
the
Phra
Nakhon
and
Thonburi
sides.
It
serves
as
the
final
connection
point
in
the
East-West
transportation
network,
stemming
from
the
Royal
Initiative.
