This place was amazing! Absolutely loved the falls themselves. It's free to enter and park your vehicle for both foreigners and locals. There are lockers, bathrooms, and shower rooms on site as well as places to eat. You can make your way down the waterfalls directly from the top down or take the stairs as most people did. From the stairs you can join the falls from different levels which is the safest way to do it. The falls themselves are beautiful and are easy to walk up for the most part. However, towards the top, they were quite steep and slippery even with the ropes provided. I would suggest climbing up halfway if you think you'll struggle.

Since there are no 'instructions' at the site... The car park is at the top of the falls, which are reached by following the short path or crossing the grass (check out the fish pond!) Once at the top of the falls take in the jungle view from the viewing platform then take your shoes and socks off and leave them at the top. Walk down the wooden staircase to your right, all the way to the bottom (keep an eye out for missing and broken planks) and keep on going until the boardwalk climbs slightly, which will take you to a mud path to your left, to the lowest pool. Enter the pool and keep on going forwards and upwards. Just be careful no to step on the 'green', which is slippery algae. Other than that you're good to climb up the rest of the 'non-slip' waterfalls, a peculiar experience all-in-all. Where there is a rope it's a good idea to take advantage of it. Once you've made your way to the top and been reunited with your shoes you can relax ... or repeat! A unique experience not to be missed!!! (We found a driver to take the five of us there from Chiang Mae, and to a couple places on the way, for 2,000 THB.)

A very beautiful waterfalls where you can play in the water and even climb the limestone falls. There is a staircase to the bottom falls or you can climb up or down the falls. There is a nice grass park with some food stalls. There are also nice shower and restroom facilities. You can take a walk to the cold water spring that feeds the falls as well. A very nice and well kept park. And there is or at least was no fee for entry.

A great park to visit. At first the area seems a bit too built up or that the waterfall won’t be that impressive but once you take the short walk down the steps and get to walk up these falls they are incredible! It’s fun to explore the area and imagine how something like this can happen! The stone formations are so beautiful and I’ve never gotten to experience something like this before! Worth a visit for sure!

If you like national Parks and beautiful natural surroundings then this place is very beautiful to walk around. Yes you can bring your swimmers and splash around the water fall or walk up and down it but be careful. It is a steep walk to the bottom of the water fall so be prepared for the walk. There is a picnic area where you can sit around and share a meal but there is only really places to get basic snacks and drinks and coffee and not much else here in regards to food. So bring your own food if you want to eat something here. There is free parking here and on this day the entry was free but not sure if it’s always like that as most national parks in Thailand you pay to enter. Overall we enjoyed the walk around the park area and the drive up here. Also check out my YouTube The Travelling Social Worker in Thailand where I put a full video up on this place.

The sticky waterfall was a bit disappointing - despite being a nature fan - after reading all the raving reviews. You can only see it from the top before starting climbing down. The cafe is terrible, they added artificial syrups both to a cup of green tea, it was undrinkable. The Chet Si fountain is not at all a fountain, it’s actually a small well, which has nothing to do with its fame of being a „fountain of 7 colors. It‘s simply greenish blue. There are really better places around Chiang Mai with gorgeous nature.

Worth the trip and a lot to do if you have enough time. Plenty of animals rummaging about just out of sight, thick in the dense vegetation. The falls were great, we took the steps down to the very bottom and climbed our way up while exploring each area. Bring a waterproof bag and a bite to eat, as depending on what you do you could spend hours here.. no need for shoes :)

Great stop and definitely worth the road. I went there on a Wednesday so it was now packed. I wouldn’t recommend to go during the weekend: with too many people I don’t think I would have enjoyed. The waterfall is gorgeous and had this way of bringing back my inner child: climbing the rocks, using the ropes, playing with water. And the surroundings is outstanding!

An absolutely amazing place with a fantastic experience. The waterfalls are beautiful and huge fun to scale. The water was warm, even for the wintertime. The facilties are really great too, with showers, good toilets and changing rooms. The little restaurant serves great Thai food and shakes at extremely good value. Make sure you wear footwear to go down the stairs first and wear swim wear to walk UP the waterfalls. You won't believe the experience of walking up the falls, but be cautious there are still some slippery bits on the way up. Look for the paler areas NOT the green areas. There are signs to show you where not to tread. The little pool at the "end" (the top) has tiny fish that nibble your feet! Kids absolutely loved the whole experience. The best part, despite being in a national park, it was completely free for EVERYONE not just Thais.

The scooty ride from Chiang Mai to the Sticky Waterfall was an absolute delight, adorned with picturesque sights along the way. The scenic views were simply breathtaking, and I was captivated by the beauty of the surroundings. During the journey, I spotted families enjoying the day out, school kids excitedly exploring, and even stumbled upon a charming pond teeming with fishes. As I arrived at the Sticky Waterfall, the sight of people scaling the rocky formations was intriguing—the unique stickiness of the rocks added a whole new dimension to the experience. It was fascinating to see solo travelers navigating the climb alongside siblings I met, who happened to be from England. Their company made me realize I should have invited my sister along for this adventure, but there's always a next time, right? The trail leading to the waterfall and the ascent from the bottom to the top was an exhilarating experience. The entire journey felt like a cool adventure, with every step offering a new thrill. Overall, the trip was incredibly enjoyable, filled with encounters with fellow travelers and the natural marvel of the Sticky Waterfall. It's an experience that'll stay with me, reminding me to bring loved ones along for future adventures.

This place is insane, if you are in Chiang Mai you have to come. You can properly walk the entire way up which looks weird as your mind is telling you different but it’s sick. Even better if you go on a hot day because the water is lovely and cool. Only thing is wear loads of bug spray as all of the mosquitoes in the whole of Thailand seem to group around it.

Was there on Sunday 18 June 23. Good to visit around 3pm whereby there's not many people. Good for photo taking and family outing. Just bring your own picnic box and please clear your own rubbish 🙏. Public toilet with shower room for free.

It's just wonderful. If you are here, it is worth the visit. The sticky waterfall is best enjoyed with shoes off. It is not your typical waterfall. There is not a dead pool at the end. The water runs relaxingly over the rocks. You will not want to leave. But that it is a national park and other people will be there. Lol I suggest going early in the morning to avoid most of the visitors. We went about 8am and maybe one other small group was there but climbing back up. By the time we, group of 7, went to bottom and got a quarter to midway back up, more people were coming. It got pretty busy.

It is an amazing natural waterfall that you can climb. Easy for all adults and kids, the falls look quite dangerous when you first arrive, but rest assured, it is an easy and worthwhile drive. We didn't take a tour. we just decided to drive up ourselves. The drive is around 45 minutes from Chiang Mai. Well, it's worth a visit if you are in the area. Don't think that you won't be able to make the climb as you will and much easier than you think.

Great family fun for FREE to fill a morning or afternoon! It feels bizarre to be able to walk up a waterfall, but your feet really do stick. Recommend bringing a picnic. Otherwise there is a small kiosk where you can buy smoothies, snacks and a small selection of local dishes.

Peaceful and very beautiful landscape. You can spend from 1.5 hours playing in the waterfalls, up to a whole day trekking around the national park and drinking mountain coffee. - There is a coffee house and a souvenir shop, you also have toilet, bathroom and shower rooms (which are very clean 👍) - There is also a locker service (you only pay a donation) where you can store the items you don't want to get wet.

Super natural and fun. We spent the whole afternoon here climbing the waterfall, short hiking and having picnic and enjoyed a lot!! There are showers, toilets and a small dining area and simple food. Mango and watermelon juices are really good. And do remember to bring suites for water events and tower and clothes for changing if you want to take shower there.

a fun time! few tips: when they say “sticky waterfall” it really just means that the rocks have grip, so when climbing you should look for spots which are just pure rock and don’t have moss - it’s easy to slip if you step on those. secondly, when you take the stairs down, go as deep as you can and climb up taking a certain path- there are areas where you can take one or the other waterfall to the top - i suggest taking one way up one time and then going down again the other way since it isn’t particularly long. overall, this was fun! having a quick climb with grip in refreshing water is nice in the Thai heat

This is one of the few National Parks that has free entry. It's great fun to spend an hour or so walking up and down the falls here. There is a good area for picnics, and one of the two small restaurants has reopened post COVID. They had been checking vaccination status before entry, but no longer do. The government has made some improvements lately, including better steps down and some safety improvements for walking up the falls themselves.

Climb Every...Waterfall??? I can now ✔️ the 🔲 for a Chiang Mai bucket list adventure. Bua Tong Waterfall (aka Sticky Waterfall) is an amazing experience! There are 4 levels of waterfalls where you can start at the bottom & climb your way to the top. The rocks are strangely grippy...even with water cascading over them due to limestone deposits from the minerally 💦. Or, you can take the stairs back to the top. I took some baby steps up the 'slippery route' before deciding I'm better suited to climbing the staircase on dry land. 😂

The so called sticky waterfall is a great place to go. For starters, there is no entry fee, then next a really well maintained entrance with a little shop and change/restrooms. Next there is a stair to go down to the different waterfall entrances. All easy level to go up, good fun for anyone as it is not too difficult to get back up the hill. Certainly recommended. Fun fact: For pets it’s a bit weird that they foresee cages to put them in at the entrance.

The kids will love it. It was so much fun we did it twice. And being one that like to err on the side of safety - I would advise to use the ropes when you find them - especially at the final climb to the top - thank me later.

Known as the 'Sticky Waterfalls'... this waterfall can be walked up and down quiet easily with a good grip due to the high calcium in the water and creating a layer underneath where the water flows which does not get a moss or slippery surface. It is a must see and experience waterfall.

Amazing place, one of the best I have been in so far in my southeast asia trip. The waterfalls are amazing and the view is breathtaking. I just loved it. There is also toilets and showers in place. We booked a transfer from our hotel and the driver was waiting for us for 2 hours, it cost us 700 tbh each (2 people). It’s a bit expensive but that was our only way to make sure we will have transportation to get back to the city (i wouldn’t count on bolt and grab, they reject drives if it’s not convenient for them)

gets pretty busy by noon better get there early morning, walking down the stairs 10 min, then climb up the waterfall 10 min, the last part it gets little tricky so better hold on the rope, if your passing by there is nice stop and refresh.

no fee. great area to hang out, walk around, have a picnic. the limestone waterfall is very cool and different. nice fun experience to walk barefoot climbing from the bottom of the falls to the top. easy and not slippery. the highest part is steeper and slippery with the moss but there are ropes to grab onto. clear clean water is refreshing for your feet.

A really cool experience and some lovely views, however the climb up the waterfall itself is relatively quick, you can probably do it in about 15 minutes. There is a cold spring here as well but due to religious reasons, you have to wear long sleeve tops and bottoms, although lots of people ignored this. Definitely worth a visit but maybe make it part of a larger tour as the drive out is quite long and relatively boring along a highway, we scootered ourselves out there and spent longer driving than we did at the waterfall (about an hour and 10 minute drive).

A beautiful park with a super clear spring and a very unique waterfalls. You can walk around on the walkway and not get wet, but the main attraction is to go up, down or both in the waterfall. The water made a lot of the rocks very rough so you can stand in the flowing water and not slip.

It is about an hour motorcycle ride from Chiang Mai. The entrance is free. You may find toilets and locker rooms there. There are 4 stages of waterfall. When you are on the waterfall, you are supposed to be barefoot. As long as you do not stand on rocks with green algae, your foot should have strong enough grip (sticky) to walk around. I really enjoy the 1-2 hours there.

Excellent place for a short trip. It took us around an hour on the scooter but it was so worth it. You get to a beautiful park/ jungle where the waterfall is, you get to see the hot stings in a very pretty area. The waterfall itself is so unique, you can get down and then climb up the whole way. There are ropes in more slippery parts. Great fun and something completely different! Highly recommended!

Very nice place to have some fun. Don't forget to get in your swimming cloths. You can either climb up or down the water fall to have some fun. The rocks on the waterfall is not at all slippery. We did climb down from the 2nd level onwards as the 1st level was a little step. If you wona skip getting wet, you can do the nature trail which goes around the water fall. Its around 2km walk with steps on some areas. The toilets are super clean and you can have a shower after having a bath on the waterfall. The good thing was there were no entrance fee taken.

Good for natural lovers ... it’s not very big waterfall but a waterfall with sticky rocks where you can climb. Almost 1hr drive. It’s called sticky waterfall because the calcium carbonate makes the rock grip, it’s makes climbing easy even with shoes or without shoes. Nice for kids, family or Solo like me 😉 A day in nature will refresh us for a month.

Awesome park to explore! You can really easily walk up and down the waterfall, with caution of course. This was part of an all day temple/lotus flower/butterfly garden/lunch/sticky waterfall tour. With some searching online you can find this tour or one similar! So much for your $ I highly recommend.

We had previously rented a scooter in Chiang Mai and took ourselves to the park. There was a small restaurant, store, and plenty of washroom facilities. Giving it some thought, while on a budget, we wouldn’t pay for a tour to take us there. We walked the sticky falls twice, and had fun. Admittedly, we didn’t check out, or were aware of other areas in the park.

Great experience unlike anything we've been to before. Unfortunately the nature trail was closed, but it was still well worth a visit. Restaurant on site took nearly an hour for food to arrive, so maybe worth taking lunch with you. Toilets were clean and locker facilities on site

One of my favourite places I went too from Chiang Mai! Great fun to climb up the waterfalls, definitely would recommend as a day trip. When we went the nature trail was closed, but this didn’t really impact our day at all we still had plenty to do climbing up the waterfall!

Iconic place! I always visit here whenever I come back to chiang mai. It makes a great day trip adventure with friends. Always cool to experience walking up a waterfall. I’d highly recommend grabbing a motorbike and coming out here or taking a red truck. There are little food shops and restaurants outside from the waterfall as well. There are ropes to help you on some parts of the waterfall. Prepared to get wet and to have a good time!

Bua Tong waterfall is the reason to come to Srilanna national park again and again. It's incredibly picturesque, and you can really climb it, because the stones are sticky. Sometimes the place is a little crowded, sometimes it is not, but it's always fun to go there. Been there multiple times, will definitely come again.

This waterfall is amazing, there are 4 “floors” and you can actually climb up and down the whole waterfall since the limestone is not slippery at all. Very nice for a day activity when you’re staying in Chiang Mai ! I recommend coming here before 12 to avoid the crowd.

Came here in the middle of sep 23. Awesome place for a little adventure! Came via the red songthaewa and reached at 1pm and left at around 4pm. Can just leave your shoes at the benches near the top of the waterfall. We carried our small backpacks with us when climbing the waterfall. You can climb down the sticky waterfall by holding onto the ropes provided. The limestones structures look more sturdy than it looks and avoid areas with green fungae/moss coverings. Generally the limestones have rough surfaces for your feet/hands to grip onto when climbing up and down. Cooling and refreshing. Going down via the wooden stairs took a while and had to slide down a muddy slope (monsoon season) while grabbing onto tree branches or tree roots before arriving at the foot of the waterfall and ascend from there. Its really fun! There is a 7 colour water spring nearby but you need to be dressed with long sleeves tops and long pants as it is a sacred ground. The nature trail hike is closed off as some of the wooden planks seem to have collapsed

The waterfall is very unique because of the hard water originated from spring water near the waterfall. This water property makes its water crystal clear and does not cause algae or slippery surface. The picnic area is available. You can also get some local meals and standard drinks there. The restrooms are clean and you need to take off your shoes and change to slippers for free before entering the restrooms. A bit of work to keep them clean.

  • 5/5 Sheri L. 1 year ago on Google
Great way to spend an afternoon! Lots of spaces to explore and hangout especially on a hot day! Visitor centre and very clean washroom / shower facilities! Climbing up and down the waterfalls were very cool - just don’t go too fast as there are parts that are green with algae and those ARE definitely slippery. Strange to get over the mind mess that you should be slipping when you aren’t. If there with kids don’t let them get too far ahead as they may not watch for sloppy areas. Dip your feet in the small pond at the top of the waterfall (just behind where you start) and let the small fish eat your dead skin. :0) Need

If you have a scooter or car absolutely go here. It’s beautiful and a lot of fun to walk up and down the waterfall. Going down is a bit harder than up but still easily doable. We did it barefoot but you can also do it in Sandals. The views are amazing and the best thing is is that it’s free. Absolutely recommend!

Wonderful day in the limestone waterfalls!! Took the trail to the bottom, and walked up the waterfalls to the top. Had a really delicious lunch at the place onsite. Then did the walk down and up again! No need for shoes. Better barefoot. If you're bringing a camera, wrap it in a waterproof cover or a plastic bag, and leave everything in the car aside from your car keys. Best to wear shorts and a top to walk in the water, and bring a change of clothes to change into after.

I love the place! It so much fun! 'Sticky Waterfall' or 'Bua Tong Waterfall' (น้ำตกบัวตอง) is located in Namtok Bua Tong-Nam Phu Chet Si National Park, 60km north from Chiang Mai downtown that will take around one hour drive. One of the top tourist attractions in Chiang Mai that had been listed as popular traveler site to visit in most tours itinerary Sticky waterfall is a limestone with calcium carbonate that has clear water run trough all year round. You can easily climb the 3-level waterfall with the help of the robe along the way. It was fun! definitely not like other waterfalls that you had been to In the national park also has 'Nam Phu Chet Si' or 'The seven colors fountain' that has been respected from the locals, polite dress code needed attention (Free Entrance, Open Daily 08.00 - 17.00)
