The White Tower in Thessaloniki stands tall and proud, casting its commanding presence over the cityscape. As an iconic landmark and a significant historical site, it holds great cultural and architectural value. Visiting the White Tower is a must for anyone exploring Thessaloniki, as it offers a captivating blend of history, panoramic views, and engaging exhibits. For explorers: there is few floors and on each one you are getting small piece of history …👌🏻

The most known place of Thessaloniki. The tower is dominating the area. Thousands of people flock on this area at times. It's one of the most popular spots in town for many reasons and it's the main city attraction.

Great building and Tower. Not really white ;) Though the second biggest city in Greece, Thessaloniki does really feel smaller - a plus, I consider, for such a historic city. There are many historical sites all over Thessaloniki, many of which are not widely known. On Google Maps, just tap the compass to see these, filter by attractions and distance, it'd bring attractions near you and just explore.

A notable landmark in the centre of Thessaloniki. A great place for photography. ❤️No far away is the Cultural route bus stop, where you can take bus 50 to get around the city in 50 minutes. Tickets can be bought on the bus. (~2 euro) Walk from stop 10 or 11 to the beach. Amazing!

We had a few hours to spare in Thessaloniki. We went to the White Tower and it was a great choice. The museum offers a rapid lesson in the history of the city. It is only a scratch of the rich history but it is well dosed and it should be taken before going to other museums and archeological sites. Most of the written information is in Greek only so don't forget to ask the free audio guide at the entrance. At the last floor, the view on the city is wonderful. It is worth visiting the Tower only for this view. If you are a passionate photographer, take a good camera with you.

Had to be visited as the main attraction point in Thessaloniki. The area around it is great and externally it is an impressive building. The view from the top is great but than again it is not hugely tall and after a few photos I assume you get down. I can't see the appeal of the exhibition inside unless you are Greek speaking. There is not a single English description next to the exhibitions. Audio guide recommended by QR code was: done poorly and not good to walk through the exhibitions (single audio track per floor). You can't listen to it on mobile unless you had earphones on you or quickly each floor is filled with cacophony of multiple visitors listening loudly on mobile. Google lens for translation worked on some exhibits but is will drain your mobile battery quickly. This could easily be improved.

The White Tower in Thessaloniki is an iconic landmark and a must-visit destination for tourists exploring the city. Situated along the waterfront, it offers panoramic views of the city and the Aegean Sea from its top observation deck. The tower itself is steeped in history, having served various purposes throughout the centuries, including as a fortress, a prison, and now as a museum showcasing Thessaloniki's rich cultural heritage. Inside, visitors can explore fascinating exhibits, artifacts, and displays that provide insight into the city's past. The surrounding area is vibrant, with plenty of cafes, shops, and cultural attractions nearby, making it an ideal spot to spend a few hours soaking in the atmosphere of this beautiful city. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or simply enjoying the view, the White Tower is a must-see attraction that promises an unforgettable experience.

Price for the ticket is 12 euro. And there was a day free to the public 18 of May (museum day). What can I possibly share for my experience? Amazing things to learn in the White tower. It totally worth visiting to learn more for Greek history and for the history of Thessaloniki. Stairs can make you feel a bit claustrophobic as they are a bit low.? Just make sure you have an hour or two to spend as there is so much to see and read and watch(Projectors). And on top you can take amazing pictures of Thermaic Gulf and mountain Olympus if weather allows. Just go for it if you are a fan of Greek history and amazing views. No hot/open soft drinks allowed inside (apart from water)

A beautiful place with a panorama. The ticket (6€) includes an audio guide in 4 languages (English and Russian for sure), but you need your own headphones for the audio guide. This surprised me a little. There are a lot of installations inside, but everything is in Greek and an audio guide would help to understand more. At the very top there is a beautiful panorama of the city around.

You get an interesting history lesson by going up and visiting each level. However, what makes the Tower extremely attractive is the panorama you have access to once you reach the top. An amazing view opens both to the city and especially to the seafront.

A visit to the White Tower of Thessaloniki is an immersive journey that captivates the senses and transports visitors to bygone eras. Whether you're a history enthusiast, a culture lover, or simply a curious traveler, the White Tower is a must-visit destination that will leave you with lasting memories and a deep appreciation for the vibrant history of Thessaloniki

Very nice place. I was there in December so no queues and very little people. There is a nice view from the top. Definitely worth going up. In each floor there is a small exhibition, for example of old photos (how does this tower and it's neighborhood looked like hundred years ago). Small gift shop at the top floor. I think people up to 26 years have a free entrance. View from the top is amazing.

What a cool historical spot! Well worth the 3 euro to get in and it was fun being able to go to the top and look out! So much history to explore here!

I noticed Thessaloniki positively in two respects, firstly was the food. In the toe restaurants we were indescribably good and in my opinion the best Mediterranean food in Europe. I really enjoyed walking around the city and especially noticed the White Tower right by the sea.

Not to crowded. Bought the tickets as soon as we entered. Scanned QR code for the audio guide and enjoyed our tour. There's a lot to learn and see about Thessaloniki's history. When you get to the top you'll be rewarded with the astonishing view of the city.

This iconic tower is kinda interesting from the outside however the expos are presented in an old fashioned and boring way. True, there's a free audio tour downloadabke in many languages but it's also a wee bit lazy and far from interactive. Can and should do better I say and till then, just skip the visit - you won't miss much anyway.

The view is mesmerizing. You can see the whole city, mountains, sea,.. easily. But, other than that not much for the castle itself. But I liked the old town and streets. It was a calm place and nice to walk in the town.

Amazing view from up there! The tower is very big and the view from up there is amazing for photos. Inside there are different rooms with audio about all sorts of things. There is also writer stuff but all of it is in Greek. Definitely worth it.

Amazing views from the top, interesting artifacts to see inside but would definitely recommend getting the audio guide as I didn't and everything is written in Greek. Only €3 entry per person so pretty cheap.

The tower has an amazing view from the top. It's interesting but the museum part doesn't have much to offer. Everything is in Greek so you can't read it if you are a tourist. There is an option to listen through the phone in a few other languages but the concept is a bit off and not very easy to navigate. Also there is no air conditioning in the tower so it's pretty stuffy and hot in the summer. There were a few ventilators but that didn't do much for the heat. If you are near the window you could catch some breeze if there's wind outside.

It is kind of a place populated by homeless people. You can take a boat tour here, but I did not really like it overall as it is not really friendly for tourists infrastructure wise and information points or clean spaces or benches to sit outside in the shade when there is very hot to be outside.

The iconic symbol of Thessaloniki and a must-visit sight. It's a multi-story gallery (6 floors) that narrates the history of Thessaloniki, and then one can admire the best views of the city and the sea from the top. Single ticket was 6 euro, while the combined one was 15 that includes entry to the Rotunda and the 2 big museums too.

Well worth a visit. You do not only get to see a cool tower but there are nice city views from the top and most importantly the tower contains a full history of the city we out on screens over each of its floors. No toilets.

A beautiful view of the sea and Thessaloniki. However, it can be windy there, so you have to be careful with your phone. The ticket price is right. There are additional exhibitions inside, and entry is free for EU citizens under 25 years of age.

Yes, there are stairs, but they are pretty easy for most people who can walk. Stairs only become challenging at the very top. Worth the effort. Interesting historical exhibit and great view from the top.

Thessaloniki is a beautiful city with access to the sea, a rich history and a lot of things to visit. One of those is the white tower about which there are complaints. They don't have a guide in the Serbian language, even though most of the tourists are from Serbia, and they charge us more for the ticket because we are not in the European Union.

  • 4/5 Nenad M. 9 months ago on Google
Nice place to visit when in Thessaloniki. Excellent view from the top of the tower. One thing have to say that disappointed me-kids that are not from EU are paying half the price ticket, but for kids from EU it's free entry. That it discrimination. Kids are kids, from Africa, EU, USA, Russia...

Pirate and Greecian small boats arrive at the harbor throughout the day to take 30 min cruises on the water. Very reasonable prices and so much fun. 1 drink is the ticket to the cruise! Highly recommend

Great view. But if you're a foreigner and do not read Greek, you won't understand anything about the exhibition. There are devices available free of charge (you have to left an ID) that provide information on several languages, but the information is pretty vague and still won't help you understand anything. But still: the view from the 6th floor is amazing!

The White Tower was really nice. Personally I was positively shocked that when the cashier asked us for the ID, and we said that we are from Poland, we got the free tickets so that was really good. Inside there is a museum with the history of Thesaloniki described from a lot of different perspectives like: migration, historical, geographical, commercial, artistic etc. At the very top there is a view point where you have a 360° view for Thesaloniki. Also there is a free audio guide (you have a QR code that you have to scan with your phone) and a free WiFi. It is recommended to take headphones with you to be able listen to the audio guide.

5 levels of history to explore. There will be a bit of stooping to get through the smaller spaces but an easy walk up the stairs. Beautiful view from the top.

  • 4/5 M. M. 1 year ago on Google
Unfortunately,no texts or information in English. Ticket is 6€ and they expect us to use google translate. For the price and the importance of the museum, we expected at least some sheet or leaflet in english. The views from the tower are nice but nothing you cant see from other points of the city. We enjoyed it anyway

Very fun learning experience. Scanned the QR code for an English audio. We entered for Free on the National Free Museum day. For tall people, mind your head in most of the inside. Wonderful view from the top!

The view from the top is worth it!!!! The rest of the museum is fine, if you are into history you will enjoy it. If not...it will be a little bit boring.

  • 4/5 Istvan Csaba V. 7 months ago on Google
The view from the tower's peak is stunning—perfect for some photo ops. Inside, there's fascinating historical info, but heads up: most of it is in Greek. Audio guides are available but only through a QR code that links to pre-recorded files on Google Drive.

The White Tower is the symbol of Thessaloniki. It was built during the fifteenth century on the site of an old demolished tower and is about 33 meters high. The White Tower is the only one left of the former twenty-four such towers. The tower has six floors and is now a museum with a permanent exhibition on the history of Thessaloniki. There is also a souvenir shop. The tower offers a beautiful view of the bay and the city. The ticket price is €6 per person. In its history, the tower was also a prison, and it became white when a prisoner washed it and bleached it in exchange for his freedom.

One of the best places in Thessaloniki if not the best great area touristic lovely and extremely adorable. Souvenirs and good people around lovely sweet areas to sit and good view around. Highly recommended and highly adored. Will definitely come back.

The best place for a great view. The tower offers a spot for a watch over the city center and the port. The tower is a museum now days and you will have to pay 6 euro entering it. Inside there are a round stairs surrounding the tower all the way up. Nice and fun for taking pictures on the back of the great views of the city.

Has 6 floors on the inside and has explanations in all languages that you can hear on your phone.. It costs €6 for an adult to go in. It has a beautiful view from the top I recommend going When it's not super sunny.

  • 5/5 Piotr P. 5 months ago on Google
The icon of Thessaloniki with great view from the top of the tower. If you want to visit the museum, then you should think about a combined 3 days ticket. It will allow you to visit 3 museums in the city and Rotunda. So you can spare some money. It costs 15€.

  • 3/5 Monica S. 9 months ago on Google
I'm sad to say it was quite disappointing. The entire exhibit is in Greek. You do have access to free wifi and audio guide in several languages, but they are just audio recordings in a Google Drive - hard to follow and for a lot of people they didn't work. The views are great at the top, so I would say it's worth the 6 euros (or less if you're a student or elderly).

  • 4/5 Ellie P. 9 months ago on Google
Like others have stated, the views of the city are pretty amazing but there isn't much to the museum inside. All in all, not a bad way to spend $13.

The tower inside is very hot in the summer and lacks of air. We also waited ~30 minutes to enter the tower.

The White Tower of Thessaloniki is a monument and museum on the waterfront of the city of Thessaloniki, capital of the region of Macedonia in northern Greece. In 1912, as Greece gained control over the city, and the White Tower was substantially remodeled and its exterior was whitewashed. White Tower has been adopted as the symbol of the city.

The landmark of Thessaloniki. The entrance fee is 6 euros. There are a lot of information and items inside the different floors of the tower, also the view from the top is breathtaking.

This is a short visit for 6 euro for adults, kids can go for free. You have nice views from the top and very wide stairs. In between the stairs you have more museum kind of features, but unfortunately only in Greek. It's nice to visit when you are in Thessaloniki.

One of the main touristic places of Thessaloniki. It is located next to the port and around 10 minutes walking from main square of Thessaloniki and 5 minutes walking from the Umbrellas touristic attraction. You can buy tickets to go to the top of the tower and view the city.

  • 4/5 Daniel I. 8 months ago on Google
The place is well maintained and full of history offering a wonderful panorama of the city! The only big minus is that all the informations for every floor are written in Greek and are not available in English .Indeed there is an audiobook available to download in every language but that is not enough. I’ve also seen Hagia Sofia from the panorama and asked the guide about this place (5th floor) and she was not able to communicate in English !

Very disappointing... unfriendly staff! We bought entrance Tickets and climbed up the Tower. We realized that everything was written and explained only in Greek - not a single word in English. At the Top of the tower I asked an employee. He said, that there were audio guides...! Why did nobody inform us at the entrance? We went back down and I asked the Lady at the entrance why she did not inform us about the audio guides ... her reaction was very rude and impolite ... I don't want to go into details about my discussion with her, but it was a very disappointing experience ... before visiting the white tower I kind of liked Thessaloniki. But after this shocking experience at the white tower, I am happy to leave this City... and I will definitely never come back again...

Mixed feelings. The sight at the top is very nice, but the tower isn't white, and the explanations inside are all written in Greek. The cost to enter the building was 3 euros. Nothing is written in English. You would have to pay for and audible device to listen to for the tour. Just FYI is to watch your head. Most of the ceilings and the entrances to each rooms are built for Hobbits. I did really enjoy the overall experience though. The view on the very top was beautiful. I would recommend to see this place.

A lovely sight on the Thessaloniki port to visit. You can go inside and up the stairs, which I didn't learn about until my final day there, but you can easily take in the White Tower from the ground. On a Sunday evening there is a great market under the Tower which is great for walking around in.
