This used to be Niagara's hidden gem with barely any visitors. Over the last year attendance has increased greatly. Due to its size, you may still not see many other hikers. If you go, please take all your trash home with you! There is no place to leave it here. For those of you who pick up your dog's poop off the trail in those brightly coloured bags, thank you! To those that toss that bag into the bush, boo! It will be visible for years and detracts from the natural beauty. Take that home with you too! Picked up a whole bag of poop and other trash on my hike yesterday.

While hiking the Bruce Trail from end to end we inevitably came thru the park. We have liked it a lot. The meandering creek flowing at the base of the sweeping hills gave us such a pleasant feeling. We didn't explore the other trails that are in the park, but we have put this place on our bucket list. The waterfalls were amazing as well. We only saw the Terrace Creek and the Swayze. Amazing sights, for sure

Great variety of trails for all to enjoy! I have done some running and hiking in short hills and it never disappoints me. With kids: I love the variety of trails here and I can always find ones that are easy enough for my kids to do during our hikes. I would recommend bringing kids here to enjoy but know there are some hills which may be hard for some littles. My kids like some hilly, uneven terrain, so I don't usually worry much about the hills. Some trails are wider then others, just depends which ones you take. There are some bigger trees they can climb safely and streams to play in. With dogs: trails are dog friendly and I always see lots of people bringing their dogs. My dog enjoys being off leash but because this is a busier trail, I never let him off the leash. My pup loves to walk here and enjoys playing in the streams. Running: I always enjoy doing a run at shorthills. It's very flat where I live, so I love that I can be in the trails and get a little elevation. In the winter, some of the trails can get pretty slippery with ice and wet rocks but it's definitely still runnable all the times I went. I'd recommend a trip out here for a run! It's beautiful whether you are running or hiking but it can get very busy and the parking lot gets full quick so I'd recommend getting out there early, if possible.

I’ve come to this park over ten times now and every time I leave amazed. The trails take you through various ecosystems; a hardwood grove ( black walnut trail), wildflower fields (scarlet tanager) waterfalls, thick pine forests ( hemlock valley). There are levels of difficulty for all to enjoy! I’ve always parked up by Pelham road and walked down the steep gravel path before merging onto other trails, but recently I broke with tradition and tried Wiley road. What a gem! Please try it. Scarlet tanager to hemlock was my favourite section this time of year because of the bustling wildflower fields. Teeming with butterflies and bees. In winter time or after great rains I’d say swayze loop because the falls are magical. Well worth the exhaustive 2 hours. Not this time of year, though. The drought effects everything.

A great provincial park to visit just near by DeCew falls. Full of trails and natural area. Mostly flat surface, so good place for children too.

Rustic, winding & rural in the thick of Bruce trails with optional side trails. Ideal for trail runner’s & cyclists of which there were several. Some inclines & narrow footpaths to navigate. Not suitable for young children and/or mobility aids. Signage somewhat vague & would advise to down load BT app (Bruce Trail) . No fee entrance however, limited parking with no road side options. Overall stunning area, expansive & in the heart of wine country. Enjoy the return slow, steady incline hill back to the parking lot!

Short Hills - Swayze Falls We hiked the trails in this beautiful park in late summer so the Falls was dry. Best to hike in early spring. Ontario's waterfalls are fed by the winter thaw and spring rains. The trails were a mix of open field and forests. The trails are also well-marked.

Great fun park to go for a hike! The scenery was very green and beautiful and we passed by Swayze Falls which was particularly nice. It was a bit muddy in a few areas when we went in mid-May, but nothing unmanageable. There are a few signs that tell you to be aware of ticks in the area, so make sure to check yourself for ticks once you're done hiking!

An absolutely fantastic place to hike, though it suffers from too little parking especially during these covid times. It will also be very muddy if there has been rain. Perfect place for beginner hikers, none of the trails are very hard or very long, but just long enough that you get a bit of a walk in and are content when you get back to your car. I would recommend parking somewhere other than the main entrance if you're looking to stay social distanced, it's not hard to keep away from people on the trails but I found that groups were milling about near the entrance which can make it hard to stay distanced.

Very good hike. We did the terrace creek falls trails it'd about 1.5hrs long with easy to medium level with some elevations. Over all a good afternoon walk . Some steeps sides along the stream/review below. We came across a couple bikers. The terrace formation of the rocks and the falls were very interesting.

It has nice trails and around trails you could find raspberries. It will be better with water I think. Lot of moths. Some trails might be better if maintained well.

One of the best. The start is a very steep hill and might be difficult for a smaller child, but very doable. Once you get down the hill it is very beautiful and leads to a great waterfall.

My family loves going for a walk in the woods on the snow in winter. We're having fun to see the snow blanketed the ground, on trees and the frozen waterfalls. It's Beautiful!!!!

Just loved it! Not so good ( difficult) for families with kids/small children. Not stroller friendly! Otherwise great for hiking with spectacular scenery in all seasons.

Run into deer whenever I go alone (less talking) often multiple groups aswell as see and hear more animals than most of the other Niagara region parks. Trails are also varied from easy to miss to easy to lose through grassy fields, thick greenery, and coniferous zones, very cool park.

Great hiking facility. People plz dont leave your garbage. There is no pick up. Also note that bathroom facilities are closed like other parks at this time.

Went on an unexpectedly long hike. Trails were not marked in a user friendly way for someone who is inexperienced with hiking. The map was difficult to decipher. I'll likely go back when I am in better shape but it was definitely not a good starting point for someone in my situation.

Great set of trails. You get to explore forests, fields, waterfalls, hills. It wasn't to busy during the weekday when we went which was great. Just be careful of brown ticks! We found a few on us

I just had a short walk here, but I like it. It’s very quiet and lots of branch roads to discover. Actually I tried to find the parking for Decew Falls, failed for that but driving to the parking of Short Hills Park.

Short Hills offers a variety of beautiful trails and waterfalls, parking lot is limited to a few cars so arrive early and enjoy the views, please wear appropriate footwear and apparel, be mindful of nature by not littering.

Isn't this park a nice little secret. First, use the second parking lot. There was an outhouse to use. Gross but useable. Excellent trails, well marked and well designated. There are markers explaining what you are looking at, and I saw a platform giving a spectacular view.

  • 1/5 Charlene E. 9 months ago on Google
Awful for signs and the map at the beginning was faded badly. Chose the only trail that offered a waterfall but... not worth it. And that last gravel hill after a 2 hour hike was killer. Much nicer spots in Niagara, I'll be avoiding this one in future.

It was a perfect day weather wise. The only negative was that I had a random branch fall and hit me in the head. It was laughed off and we continued our hike. We saw squirrels, chipmunks, and one tiny snake. The trails were well marked. Very nice scenery.

Awesome place., natural beauty and a joyful hike. Loved it. I took this tour with Explore in Budget #exploreinbudget (found in Instagram), a local tour guide in Niagara. 2.5 hours tour, it was worth it. So peaceful, helped me rejuvenate.

Really nice hiking trails here, easy to moderate. I'd definitely recommend. Is you want to see the falls, spring and summer is the best time. Is you go in September, the falls will most likely be dried up!

Had a great time visiting the trails, lots of people were out hiking. It was unfortunate due to covid the decews falls weren't accessible to us. The bylaw officer parked in front of the entrance gave us directions to short hills which we were grateful for. Beautiful weather made for a beautiful hike.

Amazing place to go for a hike. Unfortunately, the day I planned to go there, the park was closed for a native deer hunt. I do not agree with permitting hunting within provincial parks.

Had a great time exploring and building in Short Hills. Forgot how nice early winter hikes are once all the leaves have fallen. We took the fonthill entrance that Swayze falls are close to and the main path is wheelchair accessible which is nice for those with limited mobility. We hopped off onto a hiking trail and had a blast building a fort and finding another. Kids get so creative when let free in the wild lol.
