(Translated by Google) The solemn and majestic church, the beautiful garden, the quiet and solemn atmosphere. Utrecht was originally a military fort built by the Romans on the Rhine in the first century AD, and later developed into a city. It has been an important transportation hub since ancient times. It flourished as a religious town in the seventh century. The best historical testimony is the Gothic cathedral in the 13th century in the center of the ancient city. The 14th-century clock tower next to the square is 120 meters high and is the most eye-catching landmark in Utrecht. The melodious church bells and the beautiful scenery formed by the green leaves make people "walk along the river and find the peach blossom" Enter the dream of Peach Blossom Spring, use your spare time to stroll along the canals in the city, admire the beauty of the architecture and browse various shops, or find a coffee shop to enjoy the European style.

The outside tower is being renovated. The inside is quite bare but free to enter and has a pay toilet with drinking water. The attendants were polite and there is a digital donation pinpad. The story of the storm is interesting as well. Nice shady space to sit outside.

St. Martin's Cathedral (Domkerk) in Utrecht is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, architecture, and peaceful ambiance. The church is impressive in its size and simplicity, with towering columns, soaring arches, and stunning stained-glass windows that filter in soft, colorful light. Despite its turbulent past, the church has been beautifully preserved and is still in use today, with a free choir performance every Saturday. The church's minimalism belies its beauty, with intricately carved wooden pews and delicate stone carvings that have been carefully preserved and restored. The stained-glass windows depict scenes from the Bible and are stunning in their detail and beauty. The sense of history that permeates the church is palpable, and visitors can almost feel the weight of the centuries that have passed, the countless prayers that have been said, and the many lives that have been touched by this place. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful and refreshing experience, whether they're history buffs, architecture enthusiasts, or simply looking for a place to reflect and recharge. The church is a testament to the power of faith, art, and architecture, and a reminder of the beauty and tranquility that can be found in the simplest of things.

Peaceful church, one of my favorite places. It’s full of history. It’s facing the Dom tower. The church has an amazing ancient backyard. Beside that the church has a small shop for souvenirs and a cozy and nice cafe. The church open some evenings or during the day for special events or concerts. Highly recommend place to visit.

Beautiful and well maintained cathedral next to the domkerk. Very inviting and entrance is cost-free letting visitors to pay voluntarily. The structure itself is full of historical ornaments from post medieval times and has quite a big pipe organ that is being played every once in a while. Highly recommended.

This is truly a magnificent place with great areas to explore both inside and outside. Explore the outside garden annexed to the main building especially on a sunny day. Inside you’ll see beautiful stained glass from centuries ago. During the holidays the inside is lit up with holiday colors making it a really memorable experience. Additionally, around the cathedral, there are plenty of restaurant options and bars to have a nice drink after exploring.

Impressive. Originally Catholic but became protestant in the 14th century. Still in use today with a choir performance on Saturdays with free admittance. Really a well preserved beautiful Dom Kerk. Plan to spend some time here... the history, architecture, organ music. Worth a visit. Note the Dom tower is currently under maintenance but still accessible.

Fascinating history and architecture around this building, the seat of the medieval bishop of Utrecht. The visit to St. Martin's Cathedral was for me the highlight of my visit to Utrecht. I was lucky and fortunate to be visiting at the time of afternoon prayer which was a nice addition to the historical reasons for my visit. The Cathedral has much history inside and there are some explanations on its various stages through the ages , as well as its partial collapse in the 1600s.

Gothic church dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours, which was the cathedral of the Diocese of Utrecht during the Middle Ages. It is the country's only pre-Reformation cathedral, but has been a Protestant church since 1580. It was once the Netherlands' largest church, but the nave collapsed in a storm in 1674 and has never been rebuilt, leaving the tower isolated from the east end.The building is the one church in the Netherlands that closely resembles the style of classic Gothic architecture as developed in France. All other Gothic churches in the Netherlands belong to one of the many regional variants. Unlike most of its French predecessors, the building has only one tower, the 112-metre-high (367 ft) Dom Tower, which is the hallmark of the city.

This is a very majestetic building with an impressiv architecture. The highness of the space inside is unbelievable. I cannot imagine how they could build such a gracile beautiful and although massive churches that could outlast centuries. The high gotic ceiling symbolizes very clear the highness and meaning of the God and you feel yourself incredibly small inconsiderable and vulnerable. Who had spent so much money and paid for such a big project and investition that time and WHY? - I'm dealing with this question ...

Beautiful gothic cathedral in the middle of Utrecht. The cathedral is enormous but it partially collapsed in the 15th century, leaving its tower isolated. It is possible to visit the cathedral but we were not able to do so because of a funeral. Additionally, it is usually possible to climb up the tower but it was under restoration so were were unable to do so.

We climbed to the top of the Dom Tower in Utrecht. Also known as St. Martin's Cathedral, it is the highest cathedral tower in the Netherlands! A wonderful view from the top of this beautiful city. And as Alabama sang, "you see that mountain? One day I'm gonna' climb that Cathedral! All the way to the top! Oh my. It was mostly built by 1382 A.D. so is it great shape for being so old.

A must visit in Utrecht, walkable from the Central Station. The church and surrounding area is steeped in history, and is open to the public. Make sure to also visit the adjacent courtyard, the Dom Tower (which you can climb) and DOM under (an archeological museum).

It's a very old historic church. It has been around since the 7th century. It is located near the Dome Tower, so it is easy to get to Utrecht anywhere. Every Saturday afternoon, a choir open concert is held. The pipe organ is quite impressive.

) This building is commonly referred to as one of the most important churches in The Netherlands. It’s roots date back to 630 when the first chapel was founded. The church has inevitably been destroyed and rebuilt many times since then and its current Gothic structure was part of the renovation in 1254. Domkerk became a Protestant Church in 1580. The cathedral floors have many engraved stones to honor those who were important to the church and have passed. There were emperors and bishops, whose bowels and hearts were interred beneath them. We walked around a second time, just to read the dates on the stones (some as early as the 9th Century!). It takes about an hour to wander through and truly get a good understanding of the history. The Cathedral is free to enter, but they do ask for donations.

Beautiful Cathedral in Central Utrecht. There is plenty of visitor information with characters and audio headsets hire. There is a bit of renovation been carried out on the tower as you will see there is quite a bit of scaffolding around the structure currently. Utrecht is a very religious community there is a lot of pride in the churches places of worship.

  • 5/5 Veronika B. 1 year ago on Google
The most impressive church I’ve ever visited. They don’t push you and “scare” you with religion. There is a coffee place, changing table for babies, concert hall, piano. Really different and modern concept of Christianity in 21 century🙏
