Best Japanese we have had in NZ. The decor is great (check the bar footrest). Our server was a pro. We only had a couple of items but we could tell these guys know what they are doing. Don't play yourself, check this one out!

I wish I could give more stars, the servers were extremely friendly and efficient. The food was amazing the best I have had in Timaru for a very long time. It's so creative, full of flavour definitely nothing boaring. We had the chefs choice so was exciting not knowing what was coming out, would definitely do it again.

My favorite place to dine. Service is always top notch, extremely friendly and efficient. The food was amazing. Such an extensive menu with something for everyone. It is so hard to decide what to have. Also a great wine & spirit menu and can never go past the espresso martini. Recommend 100%. Pays to book.

Where to start?! The staff are fantastic, friendly and very helpful. Then there is the food, bright fresh flavors, light and simply delicious. Definitely will be back soon. Thank you to everyone for such a fantastic dining experience.

Great experience at Saikou ! Quick service and cosy vibe but high quality food. Everything was good from cocktails and starters to the main dishes (loved the meat and the tuna) Very nice adress in Timaru !

We had a great time dining at Saikou on a Friday night. The food was good and drinks are wonderful. Generally good vibes from the front of house and would totally come back again if I stop by at Timaru.

Excellent friendly staff. Attentive and they are upfront about wait times. The first time I went, the food was very good but the sushi seemed a bit dry and the norm was tough. The second time, it was perfect. Great plating and nice vibes at this well-appointed place.

Place was full. The air was stuffy as a result. Noticed when leaving. Steak was very good, but you'll want a side.

Love Saikou the team are very friendly. Food is delicious with an excellent drinks menu.

Simply booked a table for 2 adults and a little one and when we arrived asked for a high chair and got told we don't have them due to having high tables, so needless to say we walked out. Unfortunately didn't get to try the food.

Amazing experience! The food was great and service was excellent. Really enjoyed my experience and the owners were very kind and welcoming. Hands down best restaurant in Timaru and would recommend if you’re travelling to Timaru or through Timaru.

We have dined at Saiku previously when in Timaru and had great food and recommended it This time we found the menu considerably changed. It appeared to be a bit of a compromise between Japanese and European. We were not impressed.

Great food. Tempura culliflower very good. Salmon croquettes the best thing we had. Had the chefs choice menu.

Went for dinner here last Saturday night, The wait staff were great, food was great and a good price. the only downside was the generous portions and while this is not bad in itself, We asked the waitress as to the portions size and said that we were thinking of ordering 3 side dishes each and she said that would be fine, But it was far too much food! I think that she would have been better to suggest that we start with 2 sides each and then if we still wanted more, then order another dish. I know they are not going to know the appetite of each customer, But it would be wise to advise on the size of the portions.

Staff was 5/5, atmosphere was 5/5. We were really excited to try. We had the boa pork bun which was great! The Ramen however missed.its mark. The ingredients independently were great quality but the broth failed to bring them together as tasted like plain boiled water.

It’s great having good Japanese in Timaru. I’d recommend this place. Great service, great food. Heaps of seating and looks like it can cater for decent sized groups. Food was a little slow to come out, but I honestly don’t mind if it’s done well and it was! Thank you!

Had a fabulous meal, beautiful food and the service was spot on. Our waitress was very attentive but didn’t hover, she was amazing, not often I feel compelled to tip, but it was well deserved. Well done team 👏
