A must-see UNESCO heritage site. It is highly recommended to spend at least 3 hours visiting the villa and gardens. The gardens are abundant with water, fountains, statues, ponds, flowers and lovely seating areas. The villa and gardens are spectacular and visiting them is a sheer pleasure. The level of preservation done at the place is exceptional. It can be reached in a 40-minute train ride from Trimini.

This was a really nice place to see! They have gorgeous paintings inside the buildings, and a beautiful garden outside with lots of unique trees and water fountains! At €16 per person, it felt slightly pricy, but not terrible. It was nice that they offered lockers for free to use while you walk around, you just have to leave a photo id up front in exchange for the locker key.

We've been in Rome for 7 days now and this was hands down the most spectacular place we visited... It may not be the most historic... It's not as ancient as much of what you can see elsewhere, but the sheer beauty of it is something that has to be experienced to be understood. I could spend days in gardens like these.

Beautiful villa with lot’s of history and beautiful gardens! There was a long waiting line when we arrived but it took only 10 minutes. Price is good (you can get a discount when you have a train ticket to Tivoli) The interior is very nice, but the gardens are amazing. Especially the fountains also the whole technique to make the fountains work is amazing. Definitely worth a visit

This place is gorgeous! The gardens were the most impressive thing. Rooms inside the villa were cool, but once you've seen one, you've seen them all. I guess it's lost on me since I'm not the most appreciative of art. The gardens, however, we're beautiful and relaxing. There's a zillion fountains and water features and the deck views are very nice. Worth coming to Tivoli for.

Honestly my family and I just picked this tour not because we were interested in going but because we had a day without any activities while in Rome. We ended up booking it and the tour did not disappoint. Gardens were beautiful, landscape was impressive and just pure greenery all around that made picture taken very enjoyable. It was hot in the summer and you should carry a bottle of water especially since a lot of walking is involved.

The villa itself is good, but not more, unfortunately nothing much inside to see. You walk though three storeys to reach the garden which is the main attraction. The garden is magnificent! Plan one or two hours, ideally in the evening when the light is best . Tickets can be bought in advance. No food or drink onsite. Exit is different location than the entry. The parking situation is a nightmare, I went in January which is low season and searched for 30 minutes for a parking

I loved the place. The garden is wonderful with several fountains and different spots to sit and enjoy the view. There are two Piaggios in the garden offering coffee, ice-cream, snacks and refreshments. All the staff was very kind and helpful.

Absolutely worth the day trip and reasonable price of admission. The home is not as impressive as the gardens, but the expansive property and incredible fountains are truly something to see and enjoy. There were interior spaces for forthcoming art exhibitions, and I’m sure that would add even more to the experience!

Beautiful villa and gardens. Stunning views and an amazing experience . Already fairly busy in April and very hard to find parking. We came on a Saturday so I would recommend coming during the week and early or late in the season if you want a quieter time to enjoy this Villa.

Went here with my friend on a Thursday, there was no line and they had a reduced ticket fee for EU citizens under 25 (€3) normal fee is €10. It was definitely worth the €3, very beautiful garden with lots of fountains and the inside of the Villa was also very pretty. A lot of history here for those that appreciate it, they have a lot of things to read to understand the history of the place. For those that don’t like reading it’s still visually stunning. Highly recommend :)

Rome was extremely hot and over crowded, so instead we took a trip out to Tivoli and we were not disappointed. Visiting Villa d'Este was on a bit of a whim, however we were pleasantly surprised. The museum and surrounding gardens are amazing. All within an hours train from Rome. Do yourself a favour and go. Just pay for the entrance not the combined ticket. We were told it was just a stroll away, only to find that it was a 25 minute hike each way not with the extra euro. Just enjoy the garden.

Very beautiful and rich in history. The rooms are incredible to walk through and see the detail and artwork. The grounds are beautifully kept and lush. So many different fountains and areas to sit and relax. Nice on a warm day.

Stunning! Beautiful lush gardens with tons of waterfalls and fountains hidden around almost every corner.. Stunning views over the surrounding countryside.. Ideal for a family day out but also perfect for something more romantic.. A taste of heaven just outside the eternal city! 🇮🇹

Incredible day trip so close to Rome. Plan at least 1.5 hours to tour the villa itself in addition to the garden which is best on a day without rain. The garden is extremely beautiful and filled with many many features, mostly unique fountains and statues. I don’t recommend buying tickets beforehand during shoulder or off season because online tickets are more expensive. You can just walk up to the ticket booth in person and buy them without waiting in line if you’re not visiting during summer. Only paid parking is available within the area.

The best gardens I have ever visited. I am so surprised to learn so many people from Rome have never visited. It’s only 40/50minutes by car from Rome. Majestic gardens.

What a gem of a place, fountains are fabulous. The gardens are lovely. The villa is great also. The history you can feel it. So worth the time going to this Villa, so just do it if you are in Tivoli, best 12 Euros you will spend all day.

Beautiful as always. Be aware that the 10 euro ticket price comes with a 3 euro random fee for a total of over $15 dollars. Thankfully all the fountains seemed to be working now. The only Good thing to come out of covid is everybody seemed to have time to repair all the broken stuff. What I don't understand is why they allowed the four dragons fountain to be covered with mountains of moss. You can't tell what it is now except a big old glob of moss with a spurt of water coming out of the top. I actually asked two of the staff where the the fountain was that used to be there in 2016 and they had no idea what I was talking about. Turns out it was the same fountain, but not cleaned. Bring a lunch, spend time and be patient taking pictures because everybody wants to stand in front of the fountain. Please be considerate of everyone else who wants to take a picture there and don't hog the fountain as you take 10 different versions of the same family grouping.

Having been to Rome several times we decided to try something different. 12 euros for 2 people on the train return. Arrived in Tivoli and just a short walk to the old part of the town. All I can say, it was fantastic day out. Well worth a visit

Absolutely spectacular place! Villa d'Este has many gorgeous fountains, sculptures, and also a great view of Tivoli. The whole place is super green and calm. I recommend spending around two hours here, villa is quite big and you certainly don't want to miss anything from what's there. Buying tickets in advance is not necessary but recommendable, and I also recommend to come in the morning (before 10-11am) since there is not so much people at that time.

One of the most beautiful place in Rome. Enjoyed every moment being there. History and nature mixed. Very cute little city outside of the villa.

  • 5/5 Kristian S. 10 months ago on Google
Perfect day trip spot from Rome near a ton of great food and scenery. The gardens themselves were gorgeous and were a 20/10 for us, given our expectation was to just spend a day away in green space. We were not expecting the spectacular fountains, frescos, and vistas that we were met with.

  • 5/5 chris g. 10 months ago on Google
Magnificent villa with stunning gardens containing a host of fountains and water features. Inside you can also visit historic rooms full of frescos. The whole place is very well kept and in great condition, well worth a visit if you are in the area. Would recommend getting tickets in advance, in fact you can get a ticket that covers other sites including Villa Adriana (Emperor Hadrian's Villa just down the road)

  • 5/5 Linda M. 10 months ago on Google
This includes the famous Tivoli Gardens and a wonderful day trip from Rome. Take in the amazing frescos throughout the villa (composer Litz lived there for 20 years!) and then spend most of your time wandering the massive gardens with it's amazing fountains... built in the 15th century!!

  • 5/5 Andrew C. 9 months ago on Google
Stunning…. stunning… stunning. What else can you say about a 600 year old garden and mansion that can still impress today.

  • 5/5 Dieter S. 9 months ago on Google
Super romantic location with lots of history. Awesome paintings in all rooms. You can spend hours just watching those. The garden is also extremely impressive with all the water installations and fountains. A real green paradise with extraordinary garden architecture. Worth a visit any time!

Amazing and beautiful Villa and Garden. You need between 3 hours just to enjoy the place properly. A full day if you wish to take your time. Very much recommended. ❤️

  • 5/5 David 9 months ago on Google
An outstanding building and grounds. The rooms are highly decorated with colourful frescoes. The gardens housing the ornate fountains are equally impressive. Steep slopes can be a little slippy. There are golf type vehicles to ferry people if needed. Easily accessible by metro and bus.

  • 5/5 János S. 10 months ago on Google
It was an easy bus ride from Rome and back. Once there it's about a city block to the entrance. This palace, with its gravity fed fountains, is a unique collaboration between artists, architects and engineers. Not to mention the landscape gardeners. The beauty of the Villa's frescoes and ceiling can not be described. They are a must see. If you would like a short break from the hustle and noise of Rome yet still take in the culture of ancient Italy. This is the place. On the side streets, there are many great restaurants to choose from.

  • 5/5 Jim C. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing palace with unbelievable fountains. Well worth the trip out of Rome. The main fountain plays a song, every two hours, from 10:30 - 6:30. Beautiful views. Beautiful castle. Beautiful grounds. As far as wheelchair accessibility, there was an elevator that took wheelchair guests to the different floors in the castle. An employee then took guests with limited mobility in a golf cart to see most of the grounds.

  • 5/5 Wes W. 6 months ago on Google
Just wow. If you can make time, this is a must see. The Vatican was beautiful, certainly larger and more 'finished', but the frescos here are amazing, and an easy walk through the house and not crowded. The gardens are spectacular! (Prepare to walk, uphill back) Read up on the history before you come so you can fully appreciate the engineering to create the space. Several panoramic views of cities below. Take a ride through Rome, but plan to spend time here. And buy your ticket before you get here, and check the water powered pipe organ times.

Amazing feat of ancient human engineering. Beauty and function come together within the Villa. The numerous fountains and water features, gardens and mosaics and statues are all a marvel of which you'll likely never see made in modern day. Lots of walking, so make a day if it, and don't rush. Take it in at a comfortable pace. Train from Rome to Tivoli (where the villa is located) is only 35min from the Roma Termini and then its a 12 min walk from the station through a beautiful little town.

Incredible experience at Villa d'Este, my favorite escape of my 5-day tour around Rome. I would highly recommend you during a sunset, the scenery was fantastic!! Don't waste time inside if you feel you'll be running short to fully enjoy the garden and wonderful fountains! Visited in September with beautiful weather

  • 5/5 Roger Q. 5 months ago on Google
This is an amazing visit. What a perfect example of the unfettered design of the period. And so many interesting ideas. The water system for the fountains is incredibly well thought out, no expense spared in the build of the Villa or it’s gardens.

  • 5/5 Shirley J. 5 months ago on Google
It's pretty easy to find, if you know which bus stop to get off. Lots to explore, both the extensive gardens with more than 100 fountains and the villa itself. It's worth the trip to Tivoli. We went first thing in the morning to allow the opportunity to see the opera fountain play, as it only runs once every two hours. It is very relaxing despite all the steps.

What a lovely place to visit. Historical building with beautiful gardens together with magnificent water features. Has wonderful views overlooking the local area. Well worth a visit, get the train from Rome with the cost for 4 people,.only 12 euros.

An absolute gem and highly recommend to visit if you’re in Rome or nearby. However, the organa fontana didn’t worth the 30 min wait. However, the views and the garden and the rest of the fountains are breathe taking 🥰

Villa d'Este is one of the most beautiful monuments in Tivoli. You will find plenty of greenery and fountains. And if you'll be lucky and you'll have nice weather, you'll enjoy the villa much more! When I visited this place it wasn't very busy there which I appreciate! If you are in Rome right now and you don't know what to do, I recommend to visit this breathtaking place!

Visiting in October 2021, mid-week, mid-morning - we enjoyed the views mostly unobstructed by other guests. These aging fountains are well maintained and largely functional. The extent of the grounds are manageable for walking and breathtaking moments are many.

Visited 22 years ago, then again this summer - place is still as magical as when I first visited. Don’t rush to the gardens, even though they are the best part of the visit for me. Take some time in the villa first and appreciate the historical perspective!

Many steps within the villa, uphills & downhills. Stunning villa with great & countless fountains. It’s amazing to see how the fountains keeping the area cool especially in summer hot day. Also, one can imagine how much the maintenance cost for the gardeners on the landscape… Managed to capture beautiful short rainbow 🌈 on the fountain

This was my first visit there, and I visited with my wife who went there many times long ago. It was so disappointing. First of all the Villa itself is in a bad shape. Most of the frescos are faded, some if them were subjected to vandalism.... So, I thought maybe I would find some comfort in the world famous gardens and fountains. The disappointment was great...the gardens were full of weeds, the pots were empty, and many trails were blocked (with empty pots ...). But the biggest disgrace were the fountains. Many of them, including the ones on the stairways were dry; most of the sculptures were covered with green water plants, and many of the sculptures were broken/beheaded/missing. At least the organ fountain worked... To be fair, I've noticed that there are maintainance works there (outside). However, this is no excuse for the way that this UNESCO heritage certified Villa looks like. It's a shame..

Villa has beautiful garden. Lot of fountains and various designs in fountains. I have never seen so many fountains at one place and in small area. Its perfect place away from Rome for spending wonderful day in gardens. You can buy tickets on the spot. There will be line but not much .. Waiting around 15-20 min.

This is the reason why you should visit Tivoli. You'll be amazing with everything that is inside. The fountains, the views, the people you find... Is a great place! Even tho I have to say that the museum is a bit creepy.

I think this is the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in my life! And definitely the best thing on my Italian trip! The views are just incredible, the villa is gorgeous! So much history. Feels like you are transported to a fairy tale. Make sure to visit it, you won’t regret it!

Incredible villa and grounds to explore and walk! So many great photo opt areas with the fountains and water falls plus the fact your on the side of a mountain with awesome views. Definitely worth trip from Rome to enjoy this place. Lots of walking to really enjoy gardens and features so getting there early is a perk before it gets crowded and hot.
