Awesome, BUT! The best aspect of this installation is forbidden. Beneath the boat form is a magical space Ohtake clearly intends should be explored and appreciated yet the staff forbid this profoundly reducing the artwork and experience of visitors. Should be 5 stars but Benesse fail to appreciate the work of Ohtake, such a shame. This is a masterpiece of wabisabi aestheticism.

Great scale exhibition about ship! Especially enjoyed the strawberry gelato beside the exhibition area, as strawberry is a great product in teshima!!!!

Worth stopping here just to read about the history of the needle factory. But the art installation in the old factory setting is well worth the visit by itself!

Only one major exhibition here. Compare to Teshima Yokoo House, this is relatively boring.

メリヤス針製造工場に、漁船の骨組みを置いた作品。異質な２つの対象をコラージュ。 野外と室内の２箇所で展示されています。 なかなかユニークでわかりやすい作品が観られました。 そんな意味を考える前に、隣の事務所？の敷地の脇に作られた ジェラートのお店に直行。 夏には最高のシャーベットがいただけます。

昭和63年頃に廃業となった、メリヤス縫の針工場に、四国愛媛県宇和島の造船場に30年間放置されていた鯛のごち網漁用に作られた木製船型を搬入。 2つの性質とロジックのばらばらの素材を組み合わせたコラージュ作品です。 施設内では、ワークショップの開催・今作品の上映・グッズ・ジュースお菓子など販売しています。 入場料¥520 休業日はベネッセアートサイト直島Webサイトを確認して下さい。

豊島の家浦港から徒歩10分弱、長閑な田舎道に現れる打ち捨てられた工場の廃屋と船の鋳型 寂れていく街を象徴するものですが、この２つが合わさると異質な調和が生まれます。 隣の資料館では制作過程で島の子供たちが綱引きで港から運んだ様子など、地域と制作した過程を伺えます
