As the name suggests, it is a facility located within the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan in Tsukuba, where you can enjoy studying maps and surveying. I didn't look into it, but admission is free. Free entry and exit. There's not a lot of content, so I think you can finish watching it in about 1 to 2 hours. There aren't many outstanding exhibits, but a giant 3D map of Japan using red-blue glasses and a garden? A huge model of the Earth's hemisphere (you can ride it!) and an airplane used for surveying are on display. The exhibits are designed to be enjoyable, and I think anyone from children to adults who like geography (maps) will enjoy it. All the staff members were kind and polite. The facility didn't have any old smells and the toilets were very clean. There are only vending machines, but there is a rest area where you can take a rest and the scenery is very nice. The shop was also surprisingly well stocked with lots of maps and terrain goods. The only original souvenir sweets seem to be map symbol cookies (lol). It was also nice that it wasn't that crowded.

(Translated by Google) Used on February 6, 2021. Reception is required, but admission is free. I visited there with an interest in what it was like, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. It will change depending on when you went, but just looking at the exhibits will soon pass the time. Please take a commemorative photo on the globe-like mountain outside.

(Translated by Google) From Tsukuba Center, take the Science Tour Bus that runs on weekends and holidays. I was the only passenger on the bus. It's like a place where people nearby drive. There are many exhibits, but since maps are in the humanities and surveying is in the sciences, you may be interested if you divide them well, but it will be difficult to make elaborate exhibitions because the tour is free.

(Translated by Google) A child who likes maps wants to go, so I went. Due to the influence of snow on the day, there was no one else and it was in a chartered state. I wasn't so interested in it and thought that it would take about an hour, but there were many exhibits and I was watching for almost three hours until 16:00 when the museum closed. I also enjoyed eye measurement games and quizzes. There were various shops and rare ones, but I couldn't take a closer look because the closing time had come. I couldn't go out to the outdoor global open space because of snow removal on that day, so I would like to go see it again.

So many interesting maps to see. Including 3D

It is a sacred place for map enthusiasts. There are many tricks throughout to tickle children's intellectual curiosity, and I think even small children will enjoy it. I think it's most recommended for elementary school students, who start social studies classes. Of course, I think adults can also enjoy it. Recommended exhibition courses for children and adults are available in printed form, and I thought it was very helpful as they included an estimated time. I think it's hard to ask for much since it's free, but there aren't many exhibits that go into depth, so I think it's just a way to get people interested. We have a large site, and I think it would be more appealing if there was something like the surveying experience corner you see on the roads, where children could work together. When I entered the answers from the survey results into a quiz format into my computer, I was able to find buildings that curved diagonally, roads that became winding, and wonderful bridges and tunnels that were completed! If there was something like a random animation video of the results, it would definitely be fun for families or groups! As an adult, I would like to experience this too (lol) And what really impressed me was the shop! I feel that most of the shops in these facilities are very administrative and lack any sense of fun or motivation from the staff, but this one was very detailed and had a cheerful atmosphere, which gave me a very good impression. I hope everyone will stop by.

-There is an interesting permanent exhibition with many maps and surveying devices. You can understand the history and evolution of surveying in Japan. Some maps and machines are very old and classy. Not too crowded. However, the most of explanation boards is in Japanese, rarely English presented and no tour guides.

(Translated by Google) As a facility that you can enjoy for free, I think there are many exhibits. I thought it was for adults in the field, but I saw many families with children. There is a similar mini-earth for outdoor exhibition at the Children's Science Museum in Tochigi Prefecture, but the map and survey science museum is brand new and beautiful. You can watch it forever. I would like you to feel the distance between the moon and the earth, which was reproduced at a scale of 1/12 million. By the way, there was an explanation that the position of the sun is around Mt. Tsukuba in the back.

(Translated by Google) A long time ago, I was interested in maps and surveying because I was doing a cadastral survey at a rural office and getting a qualification as an assistant surveyor because I was also doing surveying and designing for civil engineering. There is a huge map of Japan in the lobby on the 1st floor, and if you wear red and blue glasses, it will pop out in 3D. You can see that the plate off Sanriku is digging deeper than the other plates, and it is clear that this plate is the cause of the huge earthquake. I also found Takeshima on the Sea of Japan side. There was an exhibition of airplanes and antennas in the outer yard, but I couldn't go near because of the rain. On the second floor, there was a special exhibition of maps and photographs from the time of the last Olympics. The permanent exhibition has a game corner and various surveying instruments. Children were also playing. In addition, the staying time was limited to one hour due to the influence of Corona, but when I noticed it was quite overtime. I'm sorry. I want to go again.

(Translated by Google) Free admission, parking available. In addition, there is a patrol bus from Tsukuba Station. Unconfirmed fee. Although it is not a distance that you can not walk, it is wise to use this bus to secure energy, as the venue will never be narrow. There is also a dedicated app for in-house guides. It was also relaxing with several groups if there were no school trip groups on the first day of the three consecutive holidays. The hall is two-storey, and there are a lot of experience-based equipment such as huge Japanese whole map using 3D glasses, quizzes by each prefecture, puzzles, and games that can compete in a sense of distance and sense of altitude. Outside the site, there are a retired observation machine at the GIA, a huge world map, and a stone. There is a souvenir shop with two staff members, and it is possible to buy different souvenirs such as maps, geography books, fans of topographic maps and so on. Papercraft @ 3000 of terrain model, mountain climbing of Mt. Fuji and toilet paper of Tokaido fifty-third order, each @ 130, fan @ 800 of topographic map motif, handkerchief @ 1000 of metropolitan area railway route map, etc. The shop alone is a facility worth revisiting. Although it is at the end, there are no restaurants, etc., but the rest area is complete and it looks like it will be nice to bring a lunch box. The toilet is also clean.
