This is a self-serve property where the owner gets upset if you call them for help. This should be made clear before booking. I had a long text convo with him and he gave me the wrong room. The room didn't open. When I called him he said he can't talk on the phone and wouldn't believe that the door wouldn't open. So I asked for a refund. He then realized the door actually doesn't open when I sent him video proof. So he gave me a new room but I had already left upset because the poor customer service raised red flags in my head. He then repeated no refunds. And he emphasized that he is able to keep prices so low only because he offers no customer service. I think this is silly and he should just hire someone who looks after the house and answers customers' calls because it's a hospitality business. He'll make a lot more money in the long run with satisfied customers. Anyways, he refused to give me a refund for a night I did not stay at their hotel so I'm leaving this review saying that you should be careful before booking if you expect anything more than almost 0 customer service (he begrudgingly texts back if you have issues but acts like he's doing you a favour). I hope they can smarten up in the future and offer better service. But as of right now, June 16th, 2022, this was the most unpleasant experience I've ever had booking a room in Toronto. He then tells you not to leave a bad review because you will be hurting small businesses. This was a nightmare for me. If you have insane amounts of patience, maybe your experience will be different.

It seemed like a nice room. It's in a great location, close to everything, the price is right and it's clean to the eye. Proper mattress covers on the bed and pillows and bed was comfortable. ... But when you get there, you are told your room is in the basement with a shared bathroom and that you can upgrade to a room on the second floor with a private bathroom for $10. OK. Whatever. I wasn't upset about that because the lady checking me in was very nice and I read the reviews before coming, so i knew to expect that. What I didn't expect was how disgusting the bathroom was. It seemed ok at first and my standards weren't very high to begin with, but as the night went on, the smell of raw sewage overwhelmed my room so much that i had to keep the bathroom door shut. I used the toilet wearing a mask soaked in essential oils. I couldn't shower or brush my teeth in there and I couldn't open the door without dry heaving and gagging. It was truly awful. I work in hospitality and I have a strong stomach so it's really something to remark on. I won't be staying there again. It's a shame. I really wanted to like it. But I feel like it's my duty to warn fellow travellers.

The location is great; however, the place is badly maintained. We stayed in a kitchen and bathroom with a bed but in the kitchen. This isn't a big deal but the kitchen cupboards were filled with building supplies, chemicals and random screws. The metal bed frame was not fully put together and squeaked horribly. A lot of these issues could be solved if the owners would just clean the place and add a rug. I'm glad that I didn't get robbed or get bedbugs)

Worst accommodation ever. Please research well before booking. When I told the name of this place to taxi driver, he advised me to lock the door all the time and never open the door if somebody knocked. I think it's gamble if you can complete whole stay that you originally planned there. - -The owner is rude and greedy, and the staff is unprofessional. -When check-in through the phone, the owner yelled at me and hung up the call. When I asked him for keeping luggage after check-out until same-day night, he proposed 150$... -No response for questions I sent through an app. -Their system is not organized. Just for knowing if laundry machine was available took 5 hours, it gave you unnecessary stress especially if you were a tourist having many plan. The poster explaining about the house's system in rooms is outdated and caused confusion. -No front desk and any common area...your stay would be unpleasant without free drinking water, mug, kettle with hot water... - Shared microwave and fridge are in corridor in basement. But as a homeless person checked-in or visited to the floor, I didn't feel safe to keep food there. -Floor is dirty. Bathmat has always pieces of something brown or black. - The room I stayed in basement had a small window, but doesn't have any scenery, just has a hole connecting to a pipe. -A male staff living in basement might exceed the boundary between staff and customers. He comes to your room without necessary purpose, for example, telling his recommended restaurants. As a female customer, I was uncomfortable. When I told him that, he got angry and insisted it is for customers, even though I didn't ask it... -No hair drier. -As laundry machine for customer was broken, they allowed me to use machine for staff. The filter of the drier had a thick pile of dust that I wondered why fire didn't occur. They demanded 10$ for laundry cost. + -Location -Still I could save some money...but time is more important

WORST HOSTEL EVER. I swear I will never come back. Extremely RUDE. I called at least 10 times to check-in and they always tell me send a text because we don’t respond to calls. They have a lot of numbers and you are simply lost between which number to call. After a long effort to reach them to check-in, I was given a different room for my first night because I was told I had checked in late knowing that it’s not true because I had informed them via their booking.com page that I’d arrive a little bit late. The first night was horrible, the room is basically a tuna can box and when you get inside it’s full of nasty bugs and unclean bed sheets and cover. Very cold and very noisy walls because it’s not well isolated. Also very pricey for this low quality hostel. The second night, someone has liked the entrance for the basement therefore I couldn’t access my room. I waited for one hour for someone to come and try to unlock the door tor me to go to sleep after a long day, it was raining and cold outside and the host came with a big chunk of keys to try them all at midnight so she can let me inside. A lot of hustle and bad communication between the staff that led to all of this. Also, they kept asking hot much did I pay and much long am I staying and what room am I in because they don’t have a follow up/ rigid system to check on customers. I asked for a partial refund for the first night and the room that I booked in which I didn’t get and they simply declined answering me even they declined responding to booking.com customer service. WORST SERVICE EVER. I don’t recommend. Also, homeless check in frequently if that’s an issue, don’t book here.

Idk why so many 1 star reviews, i think these people are picky/rich/probably racist. Ive had no issue communicating with the staff, the rooms are spotlessly clean and so is the fridge. Its my first time in a hostel. There was toilet paper and even soap. I got better than I expected.

Lushan Lu is the owner of this place, he charged me 1042 for booking, when they told me they are going to modify the dates, I left the place, booking.com changed the plan and said it is non refundable and will cancel my booking only with a fee. So on top of me staying only two nights there from feb 26-28, they charged me for whole stay plus cancellation fee. This Lushan Lu has the following buildings in rooms: he has thousands of rooms and is still so GREEDY that he holds on to poor refugee with 8K debt and takes all from her just so he can capitalize to Macon his rooms

Don't book with. Yesterday was 3rd Sept 2021. I had booked a room for 14 days quarantine on 20.08.2021 and paid some amount in advance but yesterday morning they themselves cancelled the booking. Also did not refund fully. They were asking for more amount saying that their friend has another room in almost double amount. My sone is on the way to Canada when they cancelled the booking. I was completely disturbed but they did not help me and deducted the amount. Will request the students as well as travellers not to book their room.

Avoid this dump! Same sketchy operations of a nearby property by the same Asian guy with glasses in a white Lexus SUV with New York plates. Save your money, time and agony…skip this place at all costs. You’ve clearly been warned!

The staff were perfectly fine. Besides that we booked a double room with private bathroom and there wasn’t enough room in there for us to both stand at the same time. It was basically a closet. Super disappointing. The “kitchen” is just a fridge with two microwaves on the front porch and there was literally rats everywhere. Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re a single person passing through. Also the bed was horribly uncomfortable. Felt like a box spring with a sheet on top.

It's false advertising and a place to avoid at all cost! They relocated us to another location across Spadina Avenue without advertising it on the app as we had to drag our luggage after a 6-hour drive, the place seemed strange and unsafe for the people who weren't familiar with the neighbourhood, the accommodation was so dirty and uncomfortable that we decided to leave immediately, the staff were unprofessional and never took us into consideration for our health and safety, and the owner was really hard to reach by phone or text as I had to talk through an agent from Expedia for a refund about our disappointing experience. This whole dilemma taught me an important lesson... if you ever plan to stay a night or two in Toronto, I'd suggest booking elsewhere!

By far the worst place to stay in Toronto Staff are super rude, can't speak proper English, and have no communication skills or etiquette. Rooms are unhygienic and super small, with a washroom the size of a closet. There are random "safes" placed in the corners of the room to waste space, and the beds are as hard as bricks. The location is super good, though.

No air conditioning, very poor living conditions, and literally locked me out of my room and threw all my stuff outside midway through my reservation. Staff started gaslighting me when I asked about it.

No kettle, no parking, no hairdryer. The bed was lumpy and the pillows were like rocks. But there's a really nice cat in the neighborhood!

The stuff is amazing, the rooms are amazing. Your privacy in the walls are thick. You can show up late and they will still take care of you. The beds are comfy The toilet trees are all there. I would recommend this place to any one traveling to Toronto. Can't say enough good things. Stayed many times over the last ten years.

A haunted house full of drama! If you want to get a decent night of sleep, avoid this place.

Riddled with bedbugs & centipedes; no clean bedding provided as well as no assigned beds. Lacks amenities such as kitchen and lobby. Owner infringes on guest privacy, namely concerning daytime visitors in private rooms (not shared); closely considering this hostel's policy, indicating rules & rights concerning visitors.

No star for this. Place is filthy. Chairs are cushions are ripped off and falling apart. Junks are all outside the door.

After you pay you, you gonna have to wait half an hour to an hour to get your key to your room. It felt almost like he scammed you and you end up upset after even after you get your room

Great place to stay if your coming to visit the great city of Toronto. Comfortable rooms with private bathrooms. They come with a fridge, microwave and linens. I recommend this place. Great staff and great reasonable prices. House is close to all amenities and TTC transit is 1 block away in 2 directions.

I never write reviews but felt it was my duty to write this one. Stay away from this place, it taught me a lesson to never try to save money on a hotel room. First off i had a reservation for a specific room that from the photos seemed alright, upon arrival the worker for the host took us away from our actual booking and to another location the host owned. It was very strange and felt very unsafe, he took us to this basement of a building which resembled a prison, very tight space, very dirty, very damp, super uncomfortable and not like what i had initially reserved. When i called to ask what was going on the individual i spoke with told me they could not help me and a refund was not possible even though i had been bait and switched. The accommodation was so dirty and uncomfortable that I immediately decided to book a reservation at the hilton down the street, I had to pay more but it was night and day. I recommend not booking with this location just save your money and go elsewhere. Terrible communication and not as described.

Do not be tempted by the lower price!!! Spend a little more money and book elsewhere. Read all the reviews - the bad ones are 100% accurate. We slept in a windowless room in the basement (not shown in the Expedia or google photos). A woman locked herself in the shared bathroom across the hall and talked on the phone from 12-4 am. Did not feel fire safe. Spent whole night worried about bed bugs. The location was great and the price is cheaper than other nearby places. However, I wish we had spend $150 to be in a place where we could actually sleep rather than $100 (wayyyy too much for the room we were put in) for such an uncomfortable experience.
