Honestly, I was surprised when I first saw 'vegetarian' sushi! First question that came to my mind after looking at various pictures on Google, was how can a salmon sushi be vegetarian?? I called the store and a bunch of questions, your menu has chicken, duck and a few other things which a miles away from what we call vegetarian, then what's the catch? The lady on the other side of the phone explained me that those are not actual animal products. They are made to look like that. But in fact some of them are vegan! I was perplexed and surprised both. To all vegetarian people who are, constantly searching for new places and options to eat, like me. Do not hesitate to call these guys and clear all your confusion. The items are actually VEGETARIAN and many are even VEGAN ✅ I am writing this review so that more and more people like me can get help in making a decision after reading this. Supporting them will help them survive, grow and come up with more variety of vegetarian food in future. I rushed to this place, picked up my order (due to lockdown) and enjoyed it at home, like never before. Kudos to everyone involved in bringing these vegetarian options ✌🏻💪🏻👍🏻

If you are vegan, this is a great place for sushi. Even as a non-vegan, I enjoy this place. The salmon is a great vegan imitation. The service is superb. They also sell frozen vegan food that can be prepared at home.

It is the second time that I went to this resataurant. Our first image was that it must be a genuine Japanese restaurant in view of its food and setting. However, you do not feel strong Japanese atmosphere. Firstly, its greeting style is very different from that of a traditional Japanese restaurant. Secondly, the waitresses' costumes do not carry any Japanese style. Despite the above, the service of which is generally good. All the waitresses are friendly and receptive to customers. Meanwhile, it provides more than a hundred of food for you to choose such as sushi, sashimi, tempura, handrolls, etc. All of them look like real food by naked eyes. Of course, these foods are tasted differently because they are made of vegetarian elements. Overall speaking, the foods which we have ordered are delicious and give us a refreshing feeling. The prices are also good. It's worth my recommendation.

Is it Sushi? No it's vegetarian. First time trying out a vegetarian restaurant that does sushi. Was craving sushi but decided to try it with a twist. Came here on a Sunday dinner time Speaking about the location, it's easy to find and hard to miss. It's right along Kennedy in the New Kennedy Square plaza. Lots of parking available. The restaurant has a fair amount of space. It's a cozy place. For the service, it was pretty quick. We got seated right away and food came fast after we ordered. To be fair, there was not a lot of people... A busy day's service may vary. Now to the most important part, the food. All I can say it wow, I can't believe a vegetarian dish can be this good. With that being said, this is not a replacement or substitution to real sushi. But this is a category of its own. So if you're vegan or vegetarian and want sushi, this is an option. Overall, I enjoyed my dinner at Tenon. I can imagine that it's not for everyone but I suggest to give it a try.

I've been a fan of this place from the beginning since 2015. My sis and I used to come here every other day. We could easily spend a hundred bucks each visit but totally worth it as it satisfies all of our sushi cravings 🤭Now, my fiancé is hooked! My all time faves are the Thai fish, Green dragon roll, Golden dragon roll, Special King Oyster roll, and Yummy Crisps. Not to mention, desserts (from Sweets from the Earth). We also like to get the frozen stuff they have in the freezers. The staff are always accommodating, nice, and friendly.

Always delicious! I am not a vegan but in comparison, this is just as tasty and the textures are on point! Service is always great here too.

Everything here is 99% vegan. Great option for all the veggies and vegans that want to try sushi without eating the actual fish. I ordered the combo A which made me try a bunch of different options they made. Will come here again 4/5

This was my first experience trying vegan sushi; I was amazed. Specifically the vegan salmon was outstanding, they did a great job replicating the taste and texture. My favourite dish was the general Tao chicken! Highly recommend trying this place.

This place has been here for over 20 years so I figured it's gotta be good to be able to survive for so long. NOTE: if diabetic, don't go here. Very starchy, lots of sugar. This sushi place is run by mainland Chinese. Nothing wrong with that: very few Japanese sushi chefs would actually open a place like this lol. Y'all, it was only 18 degrees today, cloudy, and very windy, but the inside was stuffy and hot. When I read reviews here that said it was "cozy", I expected comfortable, not stuffy and unventilated. Also, the spout on the teapot and the INSIDE of the miso soup bowl were BROKEN and chipped! It is IMPOSSIBLE to clean jagged pieces and rid it of all the bacteria. Gross! Know what's also gross? The tables were sticky. Food was meh. Max 3*, average 2*. The most delicious thing was the circular ham looking thing, and second is specifically the salmon sashimi. Other things were meh.. The ebi sushi was kinda mushy and didn't look like a shrimp shape lol. Taste was rather bland except for the salmon. Barely any service. We had to hunt down the server to get our order taken, and after she brought out the dishes, she never came back. We also had to hunt her down by leaving our seating area to get the bill. My biggest gripe is considering that this is a veg place, why is the sashimi and sushi "meat" cut so thin and small? And worse, at the SAME price as real sushi (with real fish) at legit Japanese restaurants? The sashimi size here was less than what I'd get on a sushi roll at like... Miki. Disappointed for sure. Not sure what everyone's raving about.

My absolute favourite sushi restaurant in all of the GTA! Everything is fresh and made to order. The portions are generous. Good for sharing. The rolls are by far the best. Owners are very friendly and pay attention though allow time to enjoy your meal.

I love their sushi. Sushi is really a specialty for this restaurant. I also normally order agedashi tofu, Thai fish for my side dishes. They make the best in the town, especially Thai fish. And I like the idea of the dish, sushi pizza. It’s one of my favourites, too.

We had a wonderful lunch at Tenon Vegetarian restaurant. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was delightful. We had our own private booth that had a lovely Japanese decor. ( no extra cost) We can't wait to eat there again and bring our friends.

Vegetarian for the Carnivore!!! I tend to be a lover of different types of food. As a 'Foodie', I think the only requirement is that you must have a passion and love for food in general. I love meat but I'm always looking for new food adventures. Tenon Vegetarian Cuisine is right in my backyard and I've almost gone a few times. I finally went recently to a family gathering in which we had vegetarians and vegans in our group. The food at Tenon is very well thought out. They really have got a handle on the food they design. I've had mock meats and plant-based meat alternatives before and for the most part enjoy vegetarian and vegan food. I enjoyed most of the food offerings and some more than others. The service was great and we had no trouble getting a private room for our group. The plates were cleaned almost as soon as the food dropped, as we were sharing most of the dishes. I was lucky to get at least a couple of photos before the food disappeared. We really liked Tenon's take on animal and fish proteins and we will surely be back. If you're a vegetarian or vegan or even just curious, give it a shot I'm sure you will like the food too.

So flipping good! Salmon is realistic and whatever their fake chicken is it is CRAZY good! Get the General Tso's chicken and thank me later! One of the coolest vegan places in the GTA.

Very interesting experience. This is a mom and pop shop. The sushi was good but the rice was cold. The portions are also very small for the price you pay. We got 6 dishes for 4 people and we were not close to being full. But overall, a good experience and good tasting food.

King oyster roll is a must try Came on a busy Saturday dinner, the place was packed and everyone seat a bit close to each other. However, the good side was we didn’t wait and they served everything fast. Staffs are friendly Weekdays or non busy hours might be better for you if you prefer to dine in with fewer people around you. (They offer 10% cash take out orders)

Great all vegetarian spot in Markham. The Thai fish was my favorite dish, the mock duck in noodle soup was slightly on the disappointing side and the sushi & sashimi bento was delicious. If the noodle soup had a little more seasoning and maybe some greens I would say this was a 5. The atmosphere is very cozy and so was the decor. Will definitely return and try other dishes, and maybe adjust my rating if the dishes I try are as good as the thai fish and sashimi.

My family and I come here very often for sushi. Our favourite is the special roll, the combo tray A, and the duck with spinach. The foods so so tasty and delicious. I love the customer service here. The owner always remembers what we ordered and what our favourite is. Strongly recommended.

The sushi is wonderful. Tastes similar to the “real” thing and looks amazing! Took my friend who is vegetarian here and she was astounded with the amount of options they have for her. The table shared two of the special maki rolls - definitely the highlight of the meal for me especially the spider maki roll. We also shared the crispy “duck” which looked a lot bigger in the photo then in real life - very tasty though and crisp; the gyoza’s were honestly not good; the bean sprout salad which was nice, light and fresh; and the pad thai which was delicious! Overall if you’re looking for a restaurant with plant based options in the Markham/rhill area this is one of your best bets! Give it a try even if you’re not vegetarian you will enjoy.

If you want and need Japanese -style vegetarian meals, this is the place. Great tasty sushi, sashimi, bento boxes and more.

I also agree with the other reviews here, they give you a paper thin slice of the vegan salmon! Come on, don’t get cheap and give a generous portion! Especially when you are paying this unrealistic high price!!

  • 4/5 Nic S. 1 year ago on Google
Interesting vegetarian food options - vegetarian Japanese sushi and sashimi! I’d have to say the vegan salmon sashimi does taste like the real thing. The only thing is that they sliced it way too thin (about 3mm thick - probably to save costs?). Otherwise I do enjoy the food and would come back again.

Delicious vegetarian sushi that looks like the real thing. The restaurant makes salmon sashimi from gelatine that is no different than actual salmon sashimi. Everything is presented beautifully and made with care. The restaurant has private rooms that seats four which is really nice when you just want to chat with friends. The menu is extensive and there are a variety of options to choose from. Lots of parking nearby as it is located in a plaza.

Finally ate here for the first time, a year after ordering some not so fresh takeout from them 🤣 I had the agedashi tofu, mixed vegetable tempura, and rainbow roll. Tofu was fine but seemed completely unseasoned & also had too much water inside of it imo (and I'm not someone that presses their tofu lmao). Tempura was great, and the rainbow roll was fine but it is a bit weird that it only comes with 1 piece of vegan salmon. The rest of the rolls had the vegan shrimp inside, which was good, but it was a little disappointing since I had picked that item due to it having vegan salmon listed in the ingredients. Would def come here again to try the other dishes, esp since the price is not bad, but there are some things that can be improved imo

This is a wish come true for all vegan/vegetarians. You can try all the flavors that you probably didn’t before because restaurants had like two options to offer to you. The food is amazing! My favorite was the hot sake on a cold day with Tempura and Udon noodles.

Featured below is the combo A which was great... we shared it between two people. The gyoza and service could have been better.

  • 5/5 Dave C. 2 years ago on Google
The food was steaming hot, the server was a kind, patient young lady who was able to describe everything well. She even brought us extra plates or bowls we requested as we wanted to share the dishes. The food was good & being a vegetarian it was nice to have soup that didn't have meat broth or fish sauce in it. Thank you, Tenon.

First time trying a vegetarian restaurant, a lot of the dishes we tried was quite good. Favorite has to be the dish that looks like roasted duck, the skin is the best part.

If you're a vegetarian and miss eating sushi, definitely come to this place. It is unique in it's own way and the food is delicious. I love the atmosphere in the Unionville location and the service is good as well. Bring a few people with you and order different sushi, so you can try a lot. This is my second time at this location and have not been disappointed with the food. Ended up trying the bento box with my girlfriend if you want something simple with a variety of items.
