Very small but cosy marine museum that attracts with an art of the ships modeling, deep history and a modern warfare. The mystery of the wooden ships development ends up with a high-end nuclear technology, the outcome of the ships evolution can be spotted behind the window in the military port. There are no interactive exhibits that could attract kids before the certain age. After visiting a museum, tickets can be used to get a discount to have a boat trip around the warship facilities and see the history with own eyes.

What a cool museum! Kids under 18 free of charge, adults 6.50€ each. Set over two floors of lots of information on the Marine and Naval history of Toulon. Very informative and the kids enjoyed listening to the free English audio guides to the stories behind the paintings, model boats/ships and buildings. Not a large museum, we spent 1.5 hours there. Toilets and gift shop at the entrance.

Well-organized, easy to follow explanation of birth, development, and modern day relevance of Toulon port. Wish there was more English. Museum has a great story to tell and wealth of artifacts & models to tell it. Top-level narrative is wonderfully simple to follow on big, sequentially numbered placards with French, English, and German. Unfortunately diving down beneath that top-level narrative one finds no translations. I’d have loved to learn more about many specific artifacts which are captioned only in French. A good audio guide is available, but it does not fill the gaps of this French-only content. Hopefully museum will fully translate these wonderful exhibits such that international visitors can fully embrace Toulon’s maritime history. VISITED: 24 November 2021

This was a pleasant "surprise" discovery on my stay in Toulon. Though to be fair, with Feance's largest Naval base, it is not really surprising that there is a maritime museum located adjacent to the base. The highlights for me were the oil paintings and the scale models of ships. The detail is stunning on both. You pay 8 Euros entrance fee (except cruise ship passengers who appear to have voucher access). It's a self-guided tour at your pace. You can rent an audio guide. Then you follow the signs and go past the maritime story of Toulon and France with explanations posted mumericqlly on the walls in French, English and German.

It is a museum that should definitely be seen by those who are interested in ship modeling.

I think it is a must-go if you have any contact with engineering (or the military). Also, it has some fantastic art from 1600 and on, depicting how the port evolved and lovely ship models. Not all museums have the power to send us back in time - this one certainly has. The staff is helpful and speaks English.

If you like maritime history, this is a good stop. Although it is not a big museum, the contents are well thought through. The audio guide is very good and the items are well presented. It gives a very good account of the development of Toulon. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Wonderful museum, with beautiful exhibits ranging from huge scale models to actual marine elements. When we were visiting there was a gentleman dressed in Victorian clothing who answered questions though fully and kindly.

The models of the wooden warships were exquisite. Unfortunately, quite a few of the exhibits were only in French. Although the audio guide did not cover all the exhibits, what was covered was done very well.

Very interesting museum, lots of information on the history of the location and the French navy. There are audio guides available in various languages. We found that there wasn’t as much information in English on the modern French navy.

I walked by this building everyday and never went in. Minor regret, because it is a nice building and if the exterior has anything to say about it, then the inside is probably just as nice.

Very good museum, finally one with lots of descriptions both in English and German in addition to French. €6,5 admission fee for single adult including audio commentary in several languages. Mine in English was very informative, with all you could want about French navla history in Toulon from the 16th century to the present. Small museum shop.
