The
Canal
Du
Midi
runs
from
Toulouse
almost
to
the
Mediterranean,
and
is
now
a
major
tourist
attraction
in
the
South
of
France.
A
beautiful
sight
along
its
total
length,
with
the
iconic
Plane
Tree
lining
its
banks,
it
could
only
be
in
France.
Tragically
the
trees
are
being
attacked
and
killed
by
an
invasive
fungus
with
no
antidote,
and
almost
the
whole
length
of
the
canal
is
now
affected,
to
the
point
that
all
the
original
trees
are
being
removed
and
replaced
by
different
varieties.
Short
term
this
has
changed
the
appearance
of
the
Canal
dramatically,
and
longer
term
-
maybe
20
years,
there
will
be
a
different
appearance
again
when
these
new
trees
reach
maturity.
