Don't know how to describe this place. It's like a magic. We can share all our problem to the Lord Shiva by sitting under a tree at this ground. Nobody will force you to go inside the temple and for Darshan. Because everyone knows that Vadakkunnathan is watching everyone from inside.

It's an awesome temple. It's a pretty old temple. It has an ample amount of parking space. Pooja at night 8:25 pm is excellent. If possible try not to miss it. One guy sings a song during that time and it was an awesome experience

Nice experience. Beautiful place. The famous Sree Vadakunnathan temple was surrounded by Thekkinkadu Maithanam full of greenery. This ancient temple was dedicated to Lord Shiva built by Lord Parasurama. The architectural style of the temple was marvelous. Different festivals like Mahashivratri, Navarathri etc were celebrated. This historical place was maintained well.

The Vadakkumnathan Temple offers a serene ambiance. The sculpture of the main idol of Lord Shiva is beautifully adorned with a layer of ghee, making it slightly concealed. This ghee layer has naturally formed over 2000 years and remains intact to this day. The temple conducts daily ghee abhishekam rituals, which are a truly captivating sight to see.

The renowned Vadakkumnathan temple is one of the oldest temples in Kerala. Situated in the heart of Thrissur town, it is admired for its unique architectural structure, made purely in wood and stone. Situated in a nine-acre walled patch of green, it received the ‘Award of Excellence’ at the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. This was in recognition of the efforts taken to protect its architectural legacy. this mentioned point are very very worthy

The Vadakkumnathan Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva in Thrissur, in the Thrissur district of Kerala, India. The temple is a classical example of the architectural style of Kerala and has one monumental tower on each of the four sides in addition to a koothambalam. Mural paintings depicting various scenes from the Mahabharata can be seen inside the temple.[1][2][3] The shrines and the Kuttambalam display vignettes carved in wood. The temple, along with the mural paintings, has been declared as a National Monument by India under the AMASR Act.[4] According to popular local lore, this is the first temple built by Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Vishnu. Thekkinkadu Maidan, encircling the Vadakkumnathan Temple, is the main venue of the renowned Thrissur Pooram festival

Incredible quiet inside the premises . In the middle of a busy city centre traffic round of Trissur .One of the best temples I have ever seen . Men have to take their shirts off in obeisance before stepping inside the temple. There is particular pattern to follow that is peculiar to this sacred place and it would be nice to understand that before your darshan.

Basically called as Thekkinkadu Maidanam, in front of the famous vadakunnathan temple is a place of calm and attractiveness. This place is ancient and famous. The famous Thrissur Pooram sets off here. Railway station as well as KSRTC and private bus stands are not so far. If you are in Thrissur, this is one place that you should check out and won't be disappointed by any means. Early morning and evening is the best time to be here. And you gonna leave by falling in love with this place!

Thekkinkadu Maidan is situated in the middle of Thrissur city of Kerala state in India. This 65-acre (260,000 m2) hillock which seats the Vadakkumnathan Temple, is oval shaped open ground in the centre of the Thrissur city which is under the custody of the Cochin Devaswom Board (CDB). It hosts the spectacular cultural festival Thrissur Pooram, which is considered the 'Mother of all Poorams in Kerala.' Maharaja of Cochin, Rama Varma Sakthan Thampuran constructed the Thekkinkadu Maidan at the heart of Thrissur City after clearing the forest around the Vadakkumnatha Temple despite the resistance of Brahmin priests and other orthodox section of people. The whole of the city branches from Thekkinkadu Maidan through nine roads, including most of the important roads like the M.G road and the M.O road. These roads further form junctions to make the spread of the city a circular one. Encircling the Thekkinkadu Maidan, Swaraj Round surrounds the small hillock on which the Vadakkunnathan Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is built. The hillock also includes a children's park, forming a major hangout place for the city's youth.

I recently had the opportunity to visit this temple and it's grounds, it's a nice place to relax, especially for people who are traveling. The temple's architecture and lush green surroundings create a beautiful atmosphere that's suitable for relaxation and reflection. While it may not have all the amenities of modern parks, it's an okay destination for those interested in history and culture. The blend of nature and tradition makes it a decent place to spend some time.

Wadakkunathan Temple (Malayalam: വടക്കുന്നാഥൻ ക്ഷേത്രം) is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in city of Thrissur, Kerala State in India. The temple situated in the very centre of town on an eminence commanding a view of neighbouring areas all around. No historian or scholar has been able to ascertain the time when this temple came into existence. Our knowledge of the origin of this temple comes from legends. According to legends the original “Prathishta” was done by Lord Parasurama, an incarnation of Vishnu and it must have been done at least four thousand years ago.The temple is known for its beautiful and old pics which are rich in the culture and heritage of Kerala. The Vadakkunnathan Temple in Kerala has received the award of excellence from the UNESCO. It is one of the oldest temples in Kerala, which has Mural paintings quite 400 years old, and the Vadakkunnathan Temple is 1000 years old. If you want to enjoy the architecture of Vadakkunnathan Temple, then you must visit in Thrissur. The temple has architectural beauty, history, heritage and also culture. People of Thrissur has maintained its culture and tradition of Vadakkunnathan temple. There are shrines Of Maha Vishnu and Shankara Narayana which are located at the temple. It also has the largest dance hall called Koothambalam, which reflects the architecture of Kerala. There are various traditional performances that are held at the festival of Vadakkunnathan Temple, and it is known as Nangyar Koothu. There is Thiruvambadi Krishna temple and Paramekkavu Devi Temple Outside the temple. The temple receives hundreds of devotees every day, especially at the weekend and on Mondays people have to use faith and believe in the temple. Nathan Temple in Thrissur has one of the best in the traditional architectural sense of Kerala.

Nice open grounds for a casual walk, gives you a little reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets of Trichur. And if you have the spiritual calling visit the Ancient Vadakkunathan temple. Lord Shiva temple with the original architecture of the Era it was built in. The temple complex is full of different species of trees ,which have mentions in Indian vedic scriptures.

To experience our culture and rituals, you should attend this Pooram at least once in your life. The Pooram highlights are the Kudamattom ceremony and Ilanjithara melam. Kudamattom features an entertaining lineup of vibrantly decorated elephants and its one of the closely observed event because it involves the quick and rhythmic switching of colorful and sequined parasols. Another highlight is the Ilanjithara melam, a stunning performance with the Chenda that takes the crowd into a state of rapture and bliss. The spirit is matched by the thousands of spectators who wave their hands in time with the rhythm created by the Chenda. Since all the neighboring hotels will be booked well in advance of the festival, you can find some dorms and temporary accommodation during that time.(Even if OYO advertises rooms availability, rooms might not be available at the hotel). There are many temporary food stalls in the city during festival, but to ensure hygiene, I advise you to get your food from the restaurant itself. While sitting beneath the Aal Maram inside the temple, you may feel calm and mindful despite all these noises and crowds, for me personally, that was one of the most amazing feelings.

The maidan is the heart of thrissur. There's no thrissur without thekkinkadu maidan. It's a place where people of thrissur come to find peace. From rich business magnates who come in their fancy luxury cars to the poorest of poor and the discarded cows and oxes, everyone finds peace in this place. It's not crowded. People come here for many reasons, be it simply to relax, or to seek the blessings of vadakkumnathan, or the newly Weds for their wedding photo shoot, or the various lottery wallahs and other street vendors to sell their merchandise, or the elephant Lovers who come to see their favourite elephants, the reasons are many. Thekkinkadu maidan is the first place to see for anybody visiting thrissur. It's heartening that the place is protected from being encroached by the people of thrissur.
