Very interesting tour with a friendly guide. I did it in French but you can ask for English tour at the reception (it's not everyday that you can have in english!! So maybe it's better to get the information before to go). If you are lucky you can get some true stories that happen in the jail. I feel I little sad but it's interesting to know !

The comic book exhibition was great and and the rest of the museum was interesting. The Bourgalt exhibit had some great pieces in it. We were looking forward to the prison but it was offered as guided tour only and only available in French. So while we were offered the tour, it was obvious that we wouldn't have got the full experience either way and only did the floor museum. The 3 exhibit rooms were enough for a quick visit, not enough to plan a day or even afternoon around. Nice place and people, just a limited experience.

The tour guide was very patient and knowledgeable. The prison especially the hole is a very spooky experience. The only tging I felt was missing is more artefacts left by the inmates, like letters or writings, prison life stories... but was a good trip.

Went for the English tour and it was really nice. The tour guide spoke English very well and was very animated and answered questions. The prison itself was small however that didn’t take away from the intrigue. If you’re in the area and have been curious about visiting an abandon prison and learning a little more history, I would start here!

This is very unique attraction and a must-visit in Trois-Rivières! You could only visit the site on a guided tour, and it's super cool to see the different floors, and even the dungeons in the basement (if you could even call that a basement). Note that most of the tours are in French, and English tours are not always offered - you could check the website for the timing and availability. There were only French tours when I visited so I took that; however, it turned out that the guide we had talked so quickly that I could barely understand him (maybe only 10%). In comparison, I listened to the French audio-guide at the nearby Museé Borealis and I understood about 70%, and there were even a few times on the prison tour when we passed by other groups and the other guides clearly spoke at a slower pace. I asked our guide if he could speak slower and he did for a few sentences before picking up the pace again (I do understand that without conscious effort it is hard to change your speaking speed). Additionally, our guide spoke as if he were reciting, which felt a bit robotic, and always delivered a long speech at one or two stops per floor before giving us a long-ish time to explore around. It would have been much nicer if he talked like telling us a story, and made more stops in different rooms with shorter explanations each. Overall, I would love to visit again and perhaps try a different guide in French, and I hope the administration would take note of these suggestions.

(Translated by Google) A nice visit very informative !! It reveals the difficult conditions of detention of prisoners who were locked in very rudimentary cells and unacceptable conditions until 1986 ... Unimaginable in a country like Canada! We also learn that there were executions in the inner courtyard and that it is thanks to Amnesty International that this place was closed. The guides and the staff are very friendly and make you live an exciting visit. To visit without hesitation! (Original) Une belle visite très instructive !! (Translated by Google) The guided tour of the old Trois-Rivières prison was really interesting. Our guide explained to us the difficult context of life in this prison and how that had an impact on the rate of recidivism of prisoners upon their release from prison. He also gave us a nice comparison between our prison system and that of Norway. (Original) La visite guidée de la vieille prison de Trois-Rivières était vraiment intéressante. This experience is all about the tour guide and the amazing story telling that Alex indulged us in for an hour. The prison is comparatively a small one, originally constructed to house 40 prisoners it held at it's closing almost 4 times as many prisoners. The conditions inside were quite extreme and it is obvious that the sole purpose was to break spirits and make incarceration a regretful experience! The tour is what makes this experience special, as the guide (Alex in our case) effortlessly engaged us in a story session for the duration of the tour. That we were a small group possibly enhanced our experience is worth mentioning. Definitely a must do!

I was really looking forward to visiting this place but when we arrived to buy the tickets they told us children under 10 years old are not allowed because of the topics the guide talks about... my son is one year old, I really don't think he was going to understand anyway. What bothers me the most is that it is not mentioned anywhere.
