I just finished dining at Aan De Poel and wanted to share my experience. For my significant other and I, we had an unpleasant experience overall. To start, the food was VERY salty for OUR palate. I struggled to finish most dishes and was debating to speak up. When the final course came out, it was not as salty as other dishes, but we were done by that point and were willing to pay without finishing. The waitress noticed I didn’t finish and asked “how was the dish” which I responded saying “uhhhhh….. it was fine.” She took it for face value regardless of my long pause before answering. To be honest, it is on me for not speaking up. However, I couldn’t bring myself to say something at a restaurant of this pedigree. Besides, I understand every restaurant is different as service and cuisine is catered to their own customs and local palate. As a result, I wanted to share in case someone who shares the same palate as me to do a bit more research before committing as it’s not cheap. Next is the customer service. It was rather inconsistent. The gentlemen who greeted us as we entered and left and the chefs who came to our table were great. However, there were many instances that led us to wishing the meal would conclude ASAP. There were many times during our meal where we felt we waited unnecessarily long. I’ve been to a handful of fine dining establishments where I sense that there should be a pace in which a high end restaurant operates at. There was a table who came probably 15 minutes after us then ended up finishing before us which didn’t make sense as we ordered the standard 5 courses. We weren’t even offered the dessert cart, but perhaps it was because we said no to tea/coffee? We also felt that we were not given the same level of service. Example, anytime guests went to use the wash room, if any of the staff were near they would open the door for the guest(s). That never happened for me as one time the staff just looked at me and nodded. It’s not a big deal, but seeing as some staff would run to hold the door really make me wonder why I’m being treated differently. I’m not trying to bad mouth this restaurant as it receives a 2 Michelin star for a reason. I just hope to share a review from a different perspective which may help someone decide before committing to dine here.

This is without a doubt one of the best restaurants I have eaten at! From the very pleasant atmosphere, and courteous professional and explanatory service to the wonderful meals we ate, all kinds of wonderful vegetables that are laid out on beautiful plates! Two types of fish that was insanely delicious. The meat was perfectly cooked and of course the perfect desserts - one of which was made from an apple that was so delicious I had to order another one!!! I'm already waiting for my next visit to your restaurant ... and by the way there was enough food and we were really full. **And thank you so much for addressing our special requirements ❤

What an experience! Aan de Poel is an amazing restaurant in a beautiful location on the edge of a lake in Amstelveen. From start to finish, the service at the restaurant is first class. The chef, Stefan van Sprang, is super friendly and spends time talking with all his guests. As for the food: it is out of this world. The chef's menu comprises the best quality ingredients and I have to say the flavours were mixed to perfection. The sommelier is also extremely knowledgeable and helped us choose the appropriate wines for the different courses. The kitchen is open so you can see the food being prepared. The waiting staff are very attentive and our glasses weren't allowed to stay empty for long. It may seem expensive (well it does have 2 Michelin stars), but once you have spent the unhurried evening there, I am sure you will find it worth it. A real jewel in Amsteveen's crown.

Such a great fine experience. It was probably the best restaurant and service we have experienced among those in the same league. The staff is consisted of professionals, from whom you could feel the passion and the enthusiasm. The place itself is a gem next to the Poel. The flow of our dishes are similar to that of a symphony where each stage is represented by a masterpiece from the chefs. There is a beginning, an end, high notes, with thoughtful display and mindful stillness among the acts. The food shows elegant simplicity and masterful expression. We look forward to our next time.

One of the best gastronomic experiences in my life. Amazing dishes great atmosphere...but most of all excellent service!! Mr. Marcel and the rest of the team have the skills to make you feel welcome and conformable enough. Go for any wine that this great sommelier (Marcel) will suggest you and let him travel your mind with his parings. Thanks for everything guys...hopefully see you soon!!

It was such an incredible experience, 4 days after our dinner there, we are still talking about it! Pictures should speak a thousand words but I still have a lot to tell! We were there to celebrate a birthday and this place exceeded our expectations by far! We have been to many other restaurants in this league (including Librije) and this was the best so far. Very good personnel, sommelier, great chefs.. And Stefan headchef very warm, nice, down to earth, no arrogance. Big respect to chef Stefan and his team.. We will surely be back. Many thanks for the great evening!

The food was exceptional, showcasing well-crafted flavors in every dish. The service was prompt and attentive, complemented by the friendly staff. We opted for the 4-course lunch menu. I didn't get a chance to learn what would be served as I couldn't find it on the website, but the selection was very fine. I did expect more Dutch-inspired cuisine, but I would say it is already fantastic. Highly recommended

We were recommended Aan de Poel by the concierge of our hotel and we are very glad he did. Everything was exceptional. We went with the chef’s 5 course tasting and it was perfect. The meal started with lighter fish dishes with each one getting richer and ending with a venison but never overwhelming. Just a fantastic meal, great service and a beautiful setting.

Wonderful restaurant and delicious food. To start my short story, I flew to Amsterdam last week to meet a friend for a vacation where we would stay in the city for the duration trip. A few months ago, I decided to book a place in Amstelveen for a night just before meeting my friend for our vacation just so I could experience this restaurant since its a bit out of the way from city center and reserved a lunch time the day after my arrival. My flight arrived early (10+hours flight time) so I decided to walk around to explore the area since it was my first time in Amsterdam. Passing by the restaurant, I was in awe at the location by the water. Out of curiousity, I decided to walk in to ask about the menu differences for lunch and dinner since I had only booked lunch due to time constraints and was told there were different items although some might be the same. After my question, the host asked if I would like to have dinner that day. I of course said yes! if there was a spot. (if you're reading this, pardon my appearance after jet lag) This then led me to having Dinner that night and then Lunch the next day at Aan De Poel. Aan de Poel was literally my first and second meal in the Netherlands. Great experience, friendly staff. Chef even came out to greet me. I've attached photos from both Lunch and Dinner in no particular order. One of my favorites was the Souffle. Everything was delicious and looked beautiful. I even wanted to come back a 3rd time before I left but unfortunately had no time. (my also food lover friend reserved every meal for our trip- she had Alchemist in Copenhagen the same night as I was having Aan de Poel) Aan de Poel was the highlight of my trip even though I experienced many multi- course restaurant tastings this trip (those quite bored me even though they were michelin starred as well). I hope to be able to visit again soon and will do the same or more! Lunch and dinner is a must to experience the full offerings.

It was a treat on my birthday and I was absolutely delighted to experience the luxury of fine dining at one of the most exquisite location of Amstelveen. The Michelin star chef came to us and spoke personally about all the dishes he was going to serve in the 5 course lunch menu. Each course was beautifully presented and elaborately described which made everything worth it.

I just walked in without reservation. Perfect food ever. I've ate 10 michelin restaurants in past 2 weeks in each city during this vacation and this was the best. Cheap price, comfortable atmosphere.

The food was unique, the staff was really nice and the place was super pretty. Especially during sunset. The only culprit was that we expected a long dinner, but not a 5-hour experience. This should have been communicated by the staff to ensure our schedule fits. A table of 3 with the curated menu and wine pairing, coffee, and an extra dessert came out ~830 euros. Highly recommended.

The restaurant deserves its reputation with excellent food. All five of the chef’s menu dishes were delicious, creative and memorable. The dinner begins with serene outdoor seating for amuse bouche and aperitifs that continues on indoors. The friendly chef himself is involved with the service and explanations and the young team follow his lead with polite and energetic attitude. So a must visit restaurant in Amsterdam for food lovers.

This was our first not-at-home meal in 198 days. Everything about this experience was stunning. The ambiance of the terrace facing the pond was marvelous. The service was probably one the best we have experienced in the Netherlands: they are there when you are about to need them, they do not ask too many questions and they are able to immerse you in the food experience you are about to get. I loved the tastes combinations, with floral touches. The basil ice cream in the dessert perfectly matched the last rays of sun we got that sunny day. The meat was too much done to my taste, I generally prefer rare steaks, but the sauce was delicious. Their wine selection is impressive, Jacques Selosse Substance is there, as well as 2 pages of Puligny-Montrachet selection. Thank you for this wonderful experience!

Was there last fall, and just ordered their lazy borrel takeaway box because I really enjoyed their food especially the ceviche, steak tartare, and salted caramel ice cream. Their meat plate was not as good as seafood, but the menu was packed with creative ideas. The atmosphere was very nice and I look forward to going back.

Very good quality food, if a bit uninspired. The place is quite upscale, with a nice location and very professional service. We went there with very high expectations based on the reputation, so we were a bit disappointed, but still a nice experience.

Fantastic food at a beautiful location just outside Amsterdam! These were top of the bill creations of classic French cuisine and new state of the art techniques. Very nice wines for reasonable prices. Definitely recommend for lovers of haute cuisine!

The outside of the building doesn't suggest it, but once inside the setting is completely different. Very fine kitchen with subtle flavour combinations. Food textures are great. Classic wine menu with a few really great ones on there.

What an incredible dining experience! This restaurant is top-tier. The service is incredible, the food was immaculate, and the ambience overall is unforgettable. This dining experience is definitely on the pricier side, but this comes as no surprise due to the quality of the cuisine and the experience of the chef. I highly recommend this place for a special occasion or even a romantic dinner.
