he foundation stone of the Cathedral was laid on 21st May 1874 by the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry, and the building was consecrated on 30th October 1879. St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral is the see of the Bishop of Edinburgh, one of seven bishops within the Scottish Episcopal Church. St Mary's was constructed in the late 19th century in Palmerston Place in the city's West End. Designed in a Victorian Gothic revival style to a design by architect Sir George Gilbert Scott, it has attained Category A listed building status and is part of the Old Town and New Town of Edinburgh World Heritage Site. The Cathedral building has three spires, instantly recognisable from many viewpoints around Edinburgh. St Mary’s main spire is 90 metres (295 ft) tall, and makes the building the tallest in the Edinburgh urban area. The Song School and the Chapter House were added to the Cathedral in later years and the two smaller additional spires were completed in 1917.

I went to the St. Mary Cathedral, a historical and spatial one at Edinburgh City, for its Fringe musical event. It provided many seats for the audience and believers, and yet I feel particularly cold inside likely due to the relatively less people coming. It was also exhibiting the artwork and offering an interactive tree for the leaves of the wishes written by people. The time I spent on visiting was about 30-45 minutes.

This is a beautiful chapel and lovely ground. We were lucky enough for the pianist to be practicing on the organ and it was lovely to listen to.

Beautiful building, and of my favourite spots in the city. However sharing the public garden with Nursery is why I give lower score (not their fault) but it's jarring and noisy as the kids are running outside all the time. Inside the cathedral is gorgeous architecture, and atmosphere love it.

This event was absolutely amazing. The musicians were brilliant and being inside the cathedral enhanced the experience. I would recommend.

One of the most stunning cathedrals we’ve ever been to. This place has so much history and is incredibly peaceful. Unlike other cathedrals, this one is just as beautiful and ornate on the outside as it is on the inside. The staff clearly love this cathedral and are happy to share its history with visitors. Services on Sundays are wonderful and worth experiencing if you’re in the area.

Majestic Church, All socially distanced measures in place, and they've got the electronic donations system in place. The Resurrection Church of is a nice quiet spot to just sit for the quiet to remember and to celebrate as you may, in your own way. The organ inside is gorgeous and definitely grand, the Stained Glass windows , a wonderful visual all around. The Church. Grounds are brilliant as well, with wonderful trees in bloom at the moment.

One more fantastic place on the amazing city of Edinburgh. Probably the most beautiful cathedral in city. Not exactly on the city centre, but you will love it when you get there

Impressive church and the architecture didn't disappoint. Find the Vitro/stained glass windows that are a piece of Art like no other.

The cathedral's architecture is a stunning example of Gothic Revival style. It features beautiful stained glass windows and intricate stonework. You'll get to hear the musical compositions/choir as well if you're lucky, but make sure not to take pictures of the choir trainings or staff.

It's actually a nice cathedral. It doesn't compare with the likes of York Minster, but it has some quite nice stained glass windows. They very often have free recitals of either choral work or organ. They are really excellent. I went back for Evensong (a first for me) because the anthem was Handel's wonderful Zadoc the Priest with the full choir. Just outstanding!!!

A beautiful cathedral to enter for free by anyone. I liked the prayer tree in the cathedral to write your prayer and it will be read out in the next prayer session

It’s definitely a beautiful cathedral. I would say if your not near it I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit. Well as a tourist at least.

Visited for a candle-lit piano concert and it was amazing. The building is awe-inspiring and the stained glass windows are beautiful. Worth a visit if you are in Edinburgh
