We stayed here at Quill Cottage a couple of weeks ago for a long weekend. A wonderful place to stay. The bed is ridiculously comfortable with really soft linens, the fireplace was easy to use (gas log), and the jacuzzi tub was perfection. Huge too. There is a TV and a nice little kitchenette area, although we didn't use it because Harrisonbug has so many great local restaurants. It is very close to downtown and everywhere we wanted to go. We would definitely stay here again.

We loved this quaint little property! We stayed in the Water Lily Studio and we couldn’t have asked for anything better! It truly was home away from home! The owners thought of everything and made sure to leave cute little, personalized touches throughout! Once entering the studio, we were welcomed by soft playing music and a warm, relaxing atmosphere. The sheets were heavenly to sleep in!! The shower experience was priceless!! Will come again and tell everyone we know about this cute little place! Thank you so much for accommodating us!

The stay was lovely, beautiful lot. The creek had toads! Very clean and tidy. I loved the little notes left for us, made us feel very welcome in our cozy cottage.

We loved our stay in the Mountain Laurel cottage and look forward to our next visit. It was cozy, clean and very welcoming. We spent 2 nights in late November and the hosts even pulled out the fire pit for us to enjoy a cozy fire by the pond (extraordinary weather for late Fall). We even enjoy a visit with an orange tabby cat while we enjoyed our fire and wine!

This is arguably one of the best cottage experiences I've ever had. We booked the Sugar Maple Suite and it was an absolutely amazing experience. The self check in and check out was super easy and hassle free. The cleanliness of the rooms were on a whole different level. If you are a germ freak, this might just be heaven because I've never seen a room cleaner than our suite. The bed was also extremely comfortable, the best I've experienced out of any place. The location is also super close by to the grand caverns and Shenandoah national park, which is great for tourists. The only thing I wished for were more outlets/charging ports. I found myself hunting for an outlet so an extension cord or charging hub for phones would be nice. Overall this was an amazing experience and we would definitely come again next time we are in Harrisonburg.

Beautifully remodeled older home with spacious accommodations. Owner was very helpful and the contact less code entry worked perfectly for my arrival time. I would definitely stay here again when in the area. Very reasonably priced and so much more cozy than your typical hotel options.

We loved our stay in the cottage - we never left from arrival to checkout because we had all we needed and it was so pleasant. I had everything necessary (fridge, burner, sink, dishes) to whip up an easy dinner and breakfast. The bed was so comfortable and the tub was amazing.

Amazing experience, definitely upgrade for the fireplace in the Fitzgerald for the full fire and jacuzzi experience. Easy check in, and the place was immaculate. We will come back often. Thank you to management/owners for setting us up so well, it was a birthday to remember!

All of the extra touches made this a special trip. Our cottage was gorgeous! We loved having so many ideas left for us of things to do in the area.

This is one of our very favorite places to stay. We stayed in the Cedarwood suite, and it was even better than we expected. It is newly renovated, beauitifully decorated and arranged, is spacious and cozy, and had every thing we needed. The common areas are delightful, and the Inn is quiet and comfortable. Anna was knd and helpful, and never intrusive. This is a superb place to stay in a wonderful area. We will be back!

Stayed a night at the Mountain Laurel studio, very cute and cozy. Checkin was very easy and all automated. The website is very clear in describing the accommodations, take a look and book a quiet stay in this little gem of a getaway. Bed and linens are very comfy, had a great nights sleep.

Staying here was the perfect finishing touch before heading back up to New England. It hit all the notes in every detail. It was pleasing to the eyes and soul. Go see it for yourself😎

Since we had such a wonderful time last year when we stayed in the Bergey Cottage (now Clover Cottage) for my husband's birthday, we decided to come back for our anniversary and stay in the Water Lily Studio across the pond. This stay was just as perfect as the first time and we couldn't decide which place we liked better, as both were truly amazing. There's everything you would need for a relaxing stay, just minutes from all Harrisonburg has to offer. I would highly recommend By the Side of the Road Inn and Cottages for anyone looking for a cozy, quiet couples getaway. We LOVE this place and will definitely be back for a third visit soon!

We had a really lovely overnight stay at one of the cottages here. The owners were lovely via text and email, sending the code and generally communicating well to set the expectations for the check in and parking, etc. The bed was lovely and the soaking tub was incredible - we both fit! Overall a really lovely stay, and I'd definitely go back.

We really enjoyed staying at Anna and Jesse’s inn. The studio suite was so beautifully designed. The beds are very comfortable. The rain shower was lovely. It is so quiet and clean. For great Italian food enjoy Vito’s.

My husband and I stayed here for JMU family weekend. The Mountain Laurel studio was cozy, clean, and the bed was so comfortable. It is conveniently located close to town but is in a quiet area. The communication with the owners was great and check in/out directions were clear and easy. We would definitely stay here again!

We started working with Anna and Jesse last Spring to celebrate a family member's 60th Birthday. From beginning to end they were amazing with helping to make the weekend a special time and a place that felt like home. The work they have done on the Inn is impressive and the details did not disappoint. Most importantly, everyone ( and we have some picky ones!) commented on the cleanliness and comfort of their rooms. The grounds surrounding the Inn are so welcoming and relaxing with large trees, flowers, an open field and a large porch swing that overlooks the pond. An added bonus is the dock for catch and release fishing. The rain did not stop a few of our crew, who ventured out to fish. They caught 12 fish and definitely did not care about being soaked! I hope you get a chance to stay at this Inn, it truly is a special place that has been made with love.

Convenient yet not in the middle of everything. Close to JMU and all the things, quiet beautiful location. The suite we had in the main house accommodated three adults very well. Spacious, well lit, comfy, with private modern bathroom and gas fireplace. Hosts available for needs. Definitely would stay here again.

Anna and Jesse are committed to creating a peaceful and beautiful spot for guests. Their newly renovated rooms have all the charm of a historic building with the conveniences of a modern space. We can't wait to stay with them and recommend By the Side of the Road Getaway Lodging to our family and friends routinely. My mom and dad stayed there a few weeks ago and can't stop raving about the comfortable beds.

We absolutely loved our stay at By The Side of The Road Getaway Lodging. Our room was exceptional and all details were thought of. As an industry worker in hotel and vacation rental management, I can say that our stay was truly luxurious. The property has been lovingly updated while keeping the original charm. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in the Quill Cottage. What a wonderful place! They seemed to have thought of just about everything to make this comfortable, enjoyable and relaxing. We almost certainly will be back. Thank you!

Surprise anniversary trip with my wife; booked the Bergy cottage and couldn't have been nicer! Very cozy with a fantastic ambiance...would book again and recommend wholeheartedly!

Fantastic accommodations (I believe my wife kept saying: "It's so nice!"). We both felt lucky to have found this gem out of the sea of options in the Harrisonburg area. Was about a 9 minute Uber ride into downtown/campus. Everything was very clean and top-notch and communications/check-in with the owner/renter couldn't have been any easier.

We loved our stay in Bergey Cottage for a weekend anniversary trip to go to Shenandoah National Park. Such a cozy, relaxing little cottage. Everything was top notch! I would definitely recommend staying here!! I would love to stay again if we find our way back to the area.

From the moment we opened the door to the Bergey Cottage, we knew we had found the perfect weekend getaway to celebrate my husband’s birthday. With soft music playing, we felt like we had walked into a spa retreat where we could escape the hassles of everyday life and just sit back and relax. The jacuzzi tub, complete with bath salts and candles, was a perfect stress reliever and the dual fireplace added a romantic feel to both the bedroom as well as the tub. We couldn’t be happier with the accommodations, there was nothing that we needed that wasn’t available to us. There was even a Happy Birthday message on one of the plates, giving our stay a more personalized feel. The owners truly thought of everything and my husband and I can’t wait to come back. We would definitely recommend By The Side Of The Road Getaway Lodging to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend getaway.

My partner and I stayed in the Fitzgerald Cottage for the weekend. The interior was exactly how it looked like in the pictures, which was great. The bed was one of the softest and comfiest beds I've ever slept in. This business has thought of everything; there were so many little details that made our stay perfect. They even had a charcuterie board in the mini kitchen area. We were about an hour away from Shenandoah National Park, which was not a bad drive. We were pleased with the surrounding restaurants as well. The cottage was just private enough from other cottages and Harrisonburg to feel like a getaway, while STILL being close to businesses and things to do (like Shenandoah). I would recommend this stay to any couple looking for a relaxing weekend getaway. I will definitely try to come back one day.

It was our 13th wedding anniversary and we wanted to get away from the world. The Fitzgerald’s cottage was perfect! It is cosy, unique, super clean and secluded. We walked into a little oasis with beautiful music flowing through the cottage, greeted by a little welcoming gift of a personalized message and a champagne toast for our very special day. The bed was so comfortable and smelled oh so fresh. The luxury robes and toiletries added a wonderful touch. We literally spent hours in front of the wood burning fire place and in the hot tub soaking in epsom salt surrounded by tea candles both of the above kindly provided by the hosts. The kitchenette was stocked with light snacks and plenty of coffee and had everything one needs for light cooking and a cocktail hour. The bidet was great! Every bathroom should have one! The location is wonderful. We hit hiking trails, checked out wineries and breweries all just miles away, went to the local restaurants and had food delivered (we stayed for a few days). Convenience and privacy all at your fingertips.

Beautiful, quaint, cozy cottage (my husband and I stayed in Bergey Cottage). We loved the double-sided fireplace and the little artistic touches inside. There were front-porch sunrises and a large spa jetted tub, along with soft music playing when we opened the door. There was a TV with cozy chairs, even some fun DVD choices. It was wonderful. The only (very slight) down-side was that the toilet is not closed off from the rest of the lodge, and while my husband and I have been married nearly 18 years, that's still something we don't necessarily enjoy sharing. ;) The rest of the time still certainly made that minor inconvenience very worth the stay. :)

Great little cottages to stay in when you visit the Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia. Great for couples because they have a romantic atmosphere and do not allow children. Great amenities and very private and affordable. My husband and I loved our stay here.

Me and my fiancé had such a great stay at the cottage. It looked exactly like the pictures and everything was as it said it would be. It was close enough to all the places we wanted to go and was a great place to come back to for the evening. I just wish we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be staying again in the future.

By the Side of the Road is a hidden gem! My darling cottage was well appointed and though a simple gesture, the personal “Welcome” sign made me feel noticed and appreciated. In the past I have stayed at another very nice B & B, but trying to justify the more than triple jump in price, I was looking for someplace that could be a frequent place to stay in the valley, that felt comfortable and safe for solo travel and most of all, sat in a serene setting both indoors and out. The innkeepers were extremely responsive as well. I cannot wait to return for a longer stay. Happy New Year!🎊
