79 steps Arochukwu Waterfalls

Nature preserve

👍 Was impressed to find out there was a waterfall of this nature. If you are looking for a place to cool off when you are in Aro, consider the waterfall. The children visited the village for the first time and the visit to the waterfall made them to want to go back there any other day. People often mention waterfall, Arochukwu, steps,

Beautiful and serene natural waterfall located behind the uncompleted stadium in Arochukwu. Close to the barracks area. You can locate it through a bush path right beside the stadium. It's a bit of a trek downhill. You can also follow a path to the left to find the 79 steps that the area is named after. It is steep and has exactly 79 steps so I will recommend wearing appropriate outfit and walking shoes. It's a good location for a picnic or photoshoot. Be sure to go as a group as it can be lonely if alone.

The Arochukwu waterfall (Igbo: Ọgba na nkume) and 79 steps is a major recreation spot and tourist destination located in Amannagwu village in Arochukwu kingdom. According to oral history, when the British colonists accessed Arochukwu Kingdom, they settled in Amannagwu and started a water project for the kingdom. Hence the 79steps which was constructed for easy access to the fall. Its locomotive relics can still be seen at the base of the waterfall. In between the 79steps, there is a flat floor which was built for a machinery that will export and bring up materials from the down part of the steps for the smooth running of the industry. Down the steps, there is a water machine located inside one of the buildings, this is believed to be a pumping machine that will extract water from the waterfall to a water tank located close to the Arochukwu Tower. The British move of colonizing the Arochukwu People was established in the year 1690 and disestablished in 1902 (after the Aro-Anglo war of 1901 - 1902). The British colonists had always been interested in Arochukwu because of their political, economic and an oracular centre as it was home of the mighty Ibini Ukpabi (the Long Juju) oracle.
