The gate is well-known for the local markets of vadodara. The whole area is full of shopping. Anything everything you can have at one place. The gate is also known for Chaar rasta, you can relocate to different areas from a single cross road. For devotees, the oldest Mataji Temple is located near this gate. Even all the old and authentic shops are located near the gate. I love the lighting and the glimpse of decoration for each celebration. I visited during Ganesha's welcome day. So I am sharing what I saw.

One of the best place to learn about Baroda's history. It is right beside the iconic Bank of Baroda Head Office. It will make you feel proud about being Barodian. This place is more photogenic during evening /night as it is studded with lights on it.

Mandvi Gate, is the north gate of the Royal Enclosure for Baroda State and its a is one of the major landmarks in Vadodara. It has history which take us back to the Mughal period. Mandvi means mandapa (Sanskrit word) meaning pillared hall. Mandvi is at the centre of the walled city where the roads leading to the 4 gates crosses. Built by Sultan Muzaffar (1511-26 AD) and renovated in 1736 AD by the Governor, Malharoa Maloji under the orders of Damaji Roa II. Later during 1856 AD, Ganpatrao Gaekwad added more storeys. Now it is a four-storied concrete structure with a clock fitted on the top. Most of the structure is intact including some of the jaalis. On special occasions like festivals and cultural events, the gate is illuminated with colourful lights. This impressive square shaped pavilion of Mandavi has three bold arched openings on each of its four sides. It is illuminated on special occasions. Earlier it might be a market place, intermingled by two large streets separating in to four part that meet in the centre.

This historical place is slowly converting into religious place now a days. There may not be any harm in worshiping anywhere but here traffic jam and air polution affected public and shopkeepers heavily. Devy/Devta may be shifted from here.

It is a circular cross road. It's very nice place for buying affordable things cause it's very close to market area and also very close to public library where you can read and borrow books. There are tickets or booking to visit at mandavi gate. There is very beautiful temple within the Mandvi gate. Best time to visit here is in noon period because at that time almost all shops are open.

Historical landmark place for Vadodara. It has a temple on the ground floor. The devotees are coming from far places by walking, of course the people residing in the city also come in large numbers. On the weekends the traffic would be a problem and finding a parking space would be difficult. Suggest you to travel on two wheeler only. The city's gold market and famous mangal bazaar is also near that adds to the traffic.

Mandvi Gate stands as a historic landmark, at the crossroads of time. It's a testament to the city's rich heritage and a bridge between the vibrant main market and the charming old town area. A place where history and daily life intersect.

Well kept historical place. Menace of vehicular traffic wil b curbed only if citizen's use their civic sense & park their vehicle in the parking area instead of haphazard parking.
