A few years back, I had a truly enjoyable lunch at Fanny Bay Oyster Bar & Shellfish Market. The oysters were the highlight, remarkably fresh and reasonably priced. The staff were helpful and friendly, making the entire dining experience even better. Overall, it was a great meal that left a lasting impression. I'd recommend Fanny Bay to anyone looking for quality oysters on a budget.

This is a great place to enjoy some high quality seafood! We ordered the paella for 2, the grilled oysters, some raw oysters, and the fish tacos. The paella was visually striking with all its colours, and had tons of seafood! In terms of taste, I thought it was good, but became a bit greasy/heavy towards the end. The portion size was great too, we got a paella for 2 and split it between 3 people, and it was more than enough (although we each ordered some oysters as well). I really liked the grilled oysters as well, but my favourite part of the meal has to be the fish tacos. The fish was perfectly fried, and paired perfectly with the pickled onion and the mango aioli. These were by far the most delicious tacos I've ever eaten, and I would come back just for them. Overall I thought the service was professional and the dining environment was nice as well. I thought the prices were reasonable for the quality of food, but I would probably consider this a 3 dollar sign restaurant, especially if you plan on ordering any oysters.

Great service, fresh seafood. We enjoyed their happy hour (1.75 per shuck for featured) fresh oysters, paella, steamed mussels&clam. I couldn't drink that day, so I must come back to enjoy the oysters with some sparkling rose. Bar seats weren't bad!

We had an amazing New year's Eve dinner at Fanny Bay. Perfect way to wrap up 2023. 💕 The freshness of the oysters and precision shucking leaves us continuously impressed along with the prompt service and professionalism from Blake and his team added to the overall enjoyment of our visits. For New Year's Eve, we indulged in some caviar, east coast oysters, lobster bisque, and Gorgonzola Martini which created a gastronomic delight. The meticulous operation led by the team at Fanny Bay is commendable, setting the bar high for seafood excellence. We absolutely love coming here. Bravo.

The server was very good, and the oysters were exceptional. The drinks were also good. However the food was very disappointing. The paella tasted more like oil then anything else. The broth for the seafood dishes was without flavour. And the desert tasted hard and stale, with lettuce as a garnish that’s better suited as a main course garnish then desert. For the price I’d go someplace else. Unlikely to go back unless it’s for happy hour oysters. Also the seating was in high chairs that were very uncomfortable.

I was there during happy hour for oysters and it was so good! $2 for regular and $2.75 for premium oysters; with no minimum orders so ordered a few to check out what I prefer then order additional oysters. Happy hour happens everyday so worth checking out if you’re in the area. Service was fast and get the bar seats to watch expert oyster shuckers at work.

After checking online for the best seafood we found the reviews of this place good. But when we reached there & had one of the BEST SEAFOOD we will definitely go there again. Service is great Shana was a gem of a person with whom we talked long & her friend guided us through what to choose & have. White wine was great worth every penny. As a tourist we want food which will touch our heart & carry sweet memories back… this was one of it.

Great service and really good oysters! Came with a friend who comes here often and can say hands down the best most freshest oysters I’ve ever had. Must try is the oyster shooter with the gold flake. Very good. Aside from that their regular menu/cooked food was very good as well.

Great Seafood and awesome staff. Fresh seafood and variety of flavours on menu. Staff always around to get items, even if they are not your primary server. Food comes out quick. Happy hour until 6 and reservations recommended after 630. Went at 510 and had a short wait to get a table. No reservations during happy hour so if a larger group go near start ot make reservations later. Cajun seafood boil, crab corn bread, raw oyster and uni in pics. Get a side or bread for the crab boil as the broth is excellent and you'll not want to waste it. Price is on par with fresh seafood - $69 crab boil, $14 uni, $2 oyster (during happy hour at least), crab corn bread $18, side of bread $4.

The food and atmosphere was great. We got the oyster and paella special. There was so much seafood and it was all really fresh. The paella was super memorable and one of the best that we’ve had!

second order: had an amazing experience on my first serving so i ordered a second serving. and it was so different from the first one? it’s not that i ordered different kind of oyster. i knew exactly which type of oyster i ordered during my second order(cause i pointed to her). it wasn’t the small kind. told the waitress, she just said i ordered the small size oyster. first order: was really good, it’s fresh & you can taste the difference between each oyster. servers were friendly just wished the lady explaining to me could speak louder. nevertheless she did a great job

Girls night out. We had a good time. Server was attentive and kind. Everything was fresh except the 3 big prawns. The meat was soft and tasted like frozen. The bread was the best part of the mussels. We ordered another bread. The fish and chip were super meaty and great batter. Light and sweet sparkling sake was easy to drink.

I really want to dine in here. I have been craving this restaurant for so long. However, it's taking so long to get a table, so me and my partner decided to buy some fresh ones togo. The quality of the oysters is amazing. If you are confident to open the oysters at home, it's a good deal to buy and take them home.

Their oysters and seacuterie board was amazing. We had the sand dune (massive), kelly (only here once a year), and fanny bay oysters. I really enjoyed the smoke scallops, which I've never had, in the seacuterie board. The lobster rolls and tuna tartare did not stand out for me - something you could find at any similar place.

Just an ordinary oyster shop with competitive prices. To be honest, the quality of their oysters is barely okay. I recommend you order the large size because the small one tastes too salty, but the price is really cheap, so it’s worth trying. I would recommend the ones with mussels in curry soup (I forget the exact name of the dish) The mussels were fresh and I really enjoyed the soup. It didn't taste like curry at all, but the soup was quite thick and fresh. I personally think this dish is much better than their soso quality oysters. Overall, I'd say if you want to get oysters at a cheap price, this place is perfect for you.

This is one of my new favorite restaurants! I love oysters and seafood, so we came to Fanny Bay and they did not disappoint. Their caesars come with an oyster and you can get oyster shooters. We got a few different oysters to try, including the sand dune, fanny bay, and I forgot the name of the third type - but it was rare and they only get it once a year. The sand dune oysters were huge and almost the size of my hand! We were most excited for the Seacuterie board. We chose smoked scallops, smoked mussels, and tuna crudo for our board. Everything was delicious and well seasoned. We got a few happy hour items as well. Overall, highly recommend coming here if you like seafood and oysters - we can’t wait to come back!

What an absolute pleasure to have experienced this amazing restaurant. The staff were so friendly and service outstanding. The food was exceptional. Will definitely return to this seafood gem. Had the absolute pleasure of talking with Chef Shorthouse. Thank you for all your insight in how to enjoy oysters to the fullest. Your passion and knowledge is contagious. Like the chef this place is a one of a kind Gem.

Great oyster bar in Downtown area. We were here for the happy hours fresh oysters. Turned out all other food from the regular menu were fantastic too. Oysters were fresh but Cherry claims too sweet. (May be not in season yet). The Paella 🥘 was loaded with lots of fresh seafood. 😋 Staffs were friendly and knowledgeable. Be prepare to line up during happy hours. No reservations is available.

Came here with my friend for happy hour. Wow make sure you get your name down early their waitlist can be around 1 hour especially on weekends. Overall the food was good we ordered regular and premium oysters. The premium were bigger and more fresh. We also ordered their brussel sprouts and sable fish. Everything was good. Would come back again

My second time trying oysters, not a bad experience but still not used to the texture yet. But they were fresh, I like them better with the limon juice and horseradish. The clam chowder was good but not the best I've tasted. The surf & turf were my favourite and can be shared. Service was good. We will definitely fine here again.

This place is fantastic! Great food, great staff. Sit at the bar for the best experience. The bartenders are awesome and artfully craft every drink. They had a bottle of Lillet on the shelf of the bar, and I wondered what drinks were made with it. A few minutes later, one of the bartenders presented me with a delicious concoction called a corpse reviver, and it was soo good! In addition to the great variety of oysters, they also had sablefish collar in the menu, and OMG was it amazing! We also had the scallops with pork belly which came highly recommended by the staff and didn't disappoint. It's hard to decide what is best on the menu because everything is! This was by far my favorite restaurant in Vancouver.

A hidden gem. Have driven by this location quite often and had no idea what was behind this unassuming exterior. Nice modern interior, excellent friendly staff. We came here for the dine-out experience and had a delicious meal. Each of the appetizer, main, and desert selections was very tasty. The seafood was fresh, the oysters had a nice fresh taste, even the lettuce was fresh and crisp which is more difficult during January. Also a big surprise was the size of each portion. Usually during the dine-out events, the serving portions are more like for a tasting menu. The portions they served were large, probably their normal serving size. So a very good meal at an excellent value.

Fantastic seafood. Lots of Oysters to choose from. Very fresh. Super friendly wait staff. Every entree was very well done. The mussels and fish were very fresh and flavourful. Not rubbery at all. The prices were fair for the quality of food being offered. Well worth the price.

Friends and I decided to try out this place before a concert. We were lucky to be there during happy hour because their happy hours are reasonable as they end at 6pm. It was packed! Even though the place was almost full, the service was on point. I appreciated that the staff were available and attentive. And the food?! Absolutely delicious. If you order the lobster poutine, ask if you can have extra lobster for an up charge. Trust me, it's totally worth it. Fanny Bay Oyster Bar is DEFINITELY a must-try!

Absolutely impeccable service. I was welcomed immediately and straightforward to my seat at the bar. Then came the oyster education. Awesome. I had three minutes until happy hour was up. The server generously said that I shouldn’t worry, they would have my order in within the happiest of hours. Delicious, fresh, ocean fragrant oysters! Get the fish tacos. Best anywhere. Be here for happy hour. It’s the best in the city. Just make sure you’re here before three minutes to six!!! I simply had to order a second round.

This place is in the top 3 of best oysters I've ever had! And the #1 spot for the best uni (sea urchin) I've ever eaten. Definitely a 5 star! Let's break down this joint. Great vibin atmosphere. We were seated exactly at our reservation time. Our server was nice, quick, and knowledgeable on the menu. She mentioned the uni was firm and that made me go for it (I've had some bad experiences with this delicacy). It was delicious. Ordered many different dishes - Sun Seeker, Sweet Select, and Kumamoto oysters were all delicious and fresh. One of them were very meaty. The horseradish is freshly grated. Lobster poutine was packed with lobster but pretty meh overall. Crab cake was a bit dry. 6pc scallop was seared to perfection. The tuna tartare was a bit salty, but still tasted good. The octopus was amazing and tender. And of course as mentioned earlier, the uni was the best and most fresh I've ever had. The wife says they make an amazing espresso martini. Definitely get a reservation as this spot was packed on a Monday night. They have fresh oysters that you can take home if you like to shuck (who doesn't like to shuck)? When I visit Vancouver again, I will definitely be stopping by.

Fanny Bay had always been a staple for us, with a wide selection of food and oysters at a decent price. They recently had a menu change (October 2023), and it isn’t as exciting / good as it was before. It has also made the Michelin guide, meaning that walk-ins are near impossible. I’d recommend making a reservation.

Amazing oysters, and very reasonable happy hour specials. The tuna tartare was delicious as well, and the lobster poutine was good but had very little lobster. Next time I will try the roll. The oyster martini was unfortunately the worst martini experience I've had and for $18 I was expecting so much more than gin and lemon. Thankfully the waitress kindly took it off of our bill. I will always return for the delicious oysters

My grandmother has an oyster farm in South Korea. I grew up eating one type of oyster. So it was a very special experience to eat various kinds of oysters. The oysters here were really fresh and fantastic. If you enjoy it with white wine! 😊

It was my first time, not only to eat here, but to take my inner artist out to a dinner date. The server was awesome, food was yummy and on time, and I loved that there are so many different kinds of oysters. First time for me to try sablefish and the collars were great!

Happy hour starts at 2 pm so that was best time for me and my family to dine in. Our server was extremely very friendly and made sure that our orders were readily served right away. The fish tacos, fries, oysters, tuna tartare and lobster sandwiches were amazingly good! The clam chowder was not that great quite a bit starchy but tasty.Overall I enjoyed our meal and will definitely recommend this place.

Quite disappointed. Food portions small. I could of ate double what they served. prices were a bit much for what you get. I mentioned it was a special occasion and not noted at all. They were going to charge $30 to simply put a candle on a birthday cake I brought. Not very customer service oriented. Barely saw waitress we wanted to order more drinks. The only great thing about this place is the variety of Oysters and the food is good. But everything else was a downer.

Amazing food at very reasonable prices during happy hour lunch service. Staff were friendly and very attentive. Food came out very quick so kudos to the back of the house for keeping things moving during happy hour! We got lobster rolls, truffle fries, fish tacos, and 2 of each regular oyster and premium oyster. For drinks we ordered their red sangria (rotating basis presumably between red and white wines) and a non-alcoholic local hazy IPA. We aren't big drinkers so won't go into detail, nevertheless they were both refreshing and tasty drinks that paired well with our food choices. The lobster roll was great, you can taste the freshness of the lobster meat itself. This was something we did not find in the lobsters we've personally had around Toronto. The dressing and small cuts of veggies did well to complement and complete the lobster roll. Truffle fries were well seasoned, being able to get hints of truffle (presumably from truffle oil) every other bite or so. The aioli paired well with the fries as well. Fish tacos were fresh, the flavor and texture of the coleslaw went well to balance out the grease of a fried fish fillet. I probably could have gone for another order but didn't want to risk a permanent food coma. One set of oysters tasted more of the ocean than the other. Going by what the wait staff pointed out as the regular vs premium, the latter had the more ocean-y briney taste. Not for everyone especially if you aren't a fan of seafood, but if you dabble then these are definitely worth a try at a reasonable price. All in all, we were thoroughly impressed with all aspects of our visit. It is on our very short list of places we'd definitely revisit on our next stop in Vancouver!

The seafood is incredibly fresh! Highly recommended for seafood enthusiasts. They don't take reservations; it's first-come, first-served. Once seated, the owner personally explains the menu and introduces the daily specials. We ordered fresh oysters and premium oysters, as well as the owner's recommended daily special - octopus salad for 26 CAD. Additionally, we ordered a tuna tartare. The oysters are exceptionally fresh, with no fishy taste whatsoever. The octopus salad is wonderfully crisp and pairs well with beer. The tuna tartare is a delightful appetizer; the tuna is very fresh, complemented by cucumbers and avocado, providing a refreshing and slightly aromatic flavor. Served with crispy wontons, it's both crispy and sweet. In summary, it's a fantastic choice for seafood lovers to try

Came here for happy hour (2-6 pm). Great oysters. Had a blast. Note: only selected oysters are on happy hour price. But it's worth trying out others if you are here already visiting. Happy hour oysters are $2 CA, and goes up to $3.50 CA for non-happy hour ones. (Oct 2023 pricing) Recommend Sunny Seeker Oysters

The bartender was so friendly. We talked about Fanny Bay Oyster history and he was very easy to talk to. What a great atmosphere! Tip: Get here early if you want in on the Happy Hour Specials or prepare to wait. (The wait is worth it if you do.....)

Delicious food and oysters, especially the Fanny Bay ones. I really enjoyed the seafood pot pie. The puff pastry was so flaky while the seafood mix was so well seasoned and tasty. Loved every bite. The uni was also worth a mention. Definitely would recommend a visit.

Fresh and tasty oysters. Happy hour starts from 3pm to 6pm. Restaurant is located in downtown Vancouver, it takes only a few minutes walk from China-town skytrain station. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Love the restaurant ambiance. Definitely come back again. Highly recommended!

Their Happy Hour oyster options today were good. I personally preferred the $1.75 to the $2.50 oyster. I didn't really like the clam chowder, maybe because the oysters were so salty that the chowder seemed flavourless. Their fish and chips' coleslaw wasn't good either as it was actually tasteless, but I have no comments for the actual fish and chips as I didn't eat that. Our server was a bit curt with us, but maybe because we appeared indecisive, so she kept leaving our table to "give us time to decide". But, she would take so long to come back that it dug into our limited table time and at the end it felt like she rushed us when she gave us our receipt without us asking. Nevertheless, she was always polite

The seafood is super fresh and surprising the fish collars were very tasty. Oysters are a definate must try if that's your thing. The paella was not the very traditional and overdone and the chowder had a much milder flavour.

Happy Hour Oysters were $1.75, service was great, had to wait for 45 mins, but the host was really nice. Loves their Truffled fries, you can add this on to the Clams and Mussels. Would def go back again.

So I was at this place before I became a local guide and just found some photos that I wanted to share. I Went there during happy hour and was treated to an awesome plate of oysters, scallops and a couple other dishes. The freshest seafood and the friendliest staff.

This restaurant has one of the best Happy Hours in the city. Super fresh oysters and Happy Hour menu. Service is quite good in general. Besides the oysters, sablefish is a must try! Get there just a bit 3pm if you want to get in right away. Their takeout prices are very good as well for Oysters.

  • 5/5 Winnie S. 2 years ago on Google
Started lining up at 2:50 in time for the 3pm happy hour and there was quite a long line after us. The servers were very friendly and food came fairly quickly. The sablefish collars was my absolute favourite. The paella wasn't as good as the reviews made it out to be sadly but still good. Overall definitely would come back again and I'm not normally a huge seafood lover!
