My date brought me here for my birthday and I cannot stop dreaming about this place. The vibe was exactly what you expect a sexy fine dining restaurant in the heart of Vancouver to be like. Moody lighting, careful attention to detail, and a curated experience from entrance to bill. The food was perfect. The service was elegant and very helpful. And they even brought out an AMAZING tiny birthday cake for me because they knew what we were here for 🥺💞 a magical little place

Overall, such a wonderful experience. The appetizers were amazing and I can say one of the best cooked meats I have had. Regarding the steak, I never had it on beans. And, I really liked it. Comparing to some other high end restaurants, I really liked this place. The menu did not try to impress you with fancy names only. However, when you eat each meal, you know the chef knows the flavours they put on this place and their harmony. We definitely will be back here.

As a vegetarian, I was really surprised by how good this place was. The staff here is wonderful and super accommodating. The Mac and cheese sticks are a must! They are some of the best things I have ever eaten. They have a couple vegetarian entrees and I really enjoyed my pasta. My other favourite here was their cheesecake. I was blown away! The cheesecake is so light and airy, but so flavourful. They have also given a free dessert when I go there for a special occasion and this is always appreciated. I will be coming here many times over!

Foods were great, I didn’t expect the portion to be big but we ended up having a lot leftover. Their salad and bread were good, the cheese sticks are the must try. Service is excellent, very quick and attentive. Not to mention the delightful cheesecake. I would highly recommend this restaurant

An incredible dining experience in downtown Vancouver. The name is a little misleading, we were expecting a rooftop restaurant from "The Roof" in the name but quickly got over it as the interior is beautiful with modern architecture and extremely comfortable seating. Service was flawless, drinks were cold and delicious. Most of all, the food was incredible. I had the Beef Wellington and it was cooked to perfection. Will definitely return the next time I'm in the city!

This is one of the premiere modern steakhouses in Vancouver and it’s almost always busy. Make sure you get a reservation otherwise you’ll likely be turned away at the door. If you’re looking for parking, there’s street parking which can be pricey, the parkade next door is (as of this writing) $14 for the night versus $8/hour on the street. Food wise, they have a ton of steak selection, I usually go with the trusty prime rib, which is 16 oz of meat, comes with sides, and it’s absolutely delicious. Would suggest a rare as the medium rare is a bit more medium rare plus. Also, if you can’t finish, it tastes great the next day. Their sides are delicious too, would suggest the scallops, and adding the Mac and cheese sticks. The service here is also fantastic, very attentive, friendly, and personable. Will definitely come back for other celebrations and milestones.

We had a great time here for our anniversary. The ambiance is so nice and the perfect place to go for a special occasion or when you want to do something a little fancy. Delicious food and really amazing service. Also definitely get the bread as an appetizer! Super soft and delicious and a huge portion! I had the steelhead and creamed potatoes which were both delicious.Of course it’s a bit pricey but that’s only to be expected in this style of restaurant so I would say it’s worth it.

Went for dine-out festival. Was not expecting a greatest quality since we were not paying as much. Still expected decent quality but the foods were disappointed. Ordered 3 medium rare steaks and 1 medium steak. One of medium rare was not cooked, and the other was over cooked as where my medium was more red than one of my parties. The portion was small and the meat was too tough. We complained about them and the manager came. He said he will notice to the cheif and that was about it. Nothing else. Otherwise the service was great. But I hope the restaurant at least match the quality of their restaurant standard.

Service: Poor and slow, Ambience: Great. Prime Rib: overestimated (disappointed) Sunday Special: all-in one menu for prime rib. Frustration Warning: rooftop and indoor have different menus. If you want to get prime rib, you have to book for indoor. Rooftop has more casual style food and only high quality meat which are expensive ones - per ounce 50$. I booked indoor luckily and ordered prime rib, Arrived at 9, ordered 9.10pm got the food 10pm, considering it was not busy at all, not acceptable. I was expecting an smooth and good quality experience from the meat based on the advertisement and how they treat the meat until service, but it was exactly same experience if you have a t-bone from Walmart and bbq it, even much better. Prime rib had lots of inedible parts like nerves making it harder to chew, half of the meat, I had to remove - not talking about the fatty part that’s pretty good. Beef carpaccio was great and the best part of the menu, I’d recommend. Special cocktails are good, try spice trade if you are sweet tooth. At the end of Sunday special you get a dessert which was pretty tasty cheesecake kinda mousse texture, not too sweet, not heavy, great balance.

Lots of energy and buzz at this restaurant. Sides are decent size, make sure to get the roasted Brussels sprouts. Steaks are decent but asked for a medium/rare Chicago style and I got a medium/well. It happens but it took them over 45 minutes to bring out the next steak. By that time everyone else was done eating.

A Memorable Evening with a Few Hiccups In summary: Food Quality (3/5): The Cesar salad stole the show with its fresh ingredients and well-balanced flavors. Unfortunately, the Châteaubriand for Two left something to be desired. While the center was expertly cooked and flavorful, a disappointing 30% of the meat, especially the crust, resembled beef jerky. Not what you'd expect from a $160 dish. Service (8/5): Our waiter, Aiden, was the highlight of the evening. Attentive and caring, he constantly checked on us, refilled our water without prompting, and proactively kept us updated when our steak took longer than expected. Aiden's genuine smile and personalized conversations added a special touch to the dining experience. Menu Highlights: - Beef Carpaccio (3/5): Fine cuts with diverse toppings, but the flavors were overpowering, and we couldn't taste much beef flavour, lacking a wow factor. - Tableside Cesar Salad (5/5): A definite star of the night. Fresh, well-seasoned vegetables, expertly mixed by Aiden, who took the time to explain the process. A good dish with a good story ❤️ - Hibiscus Mango Margarita (4/5): Elegant presentation and good flavor. - Warm CastIron Cookie (3/5): Initially pleasing with a well-balanced ice cream pairing, but the cookie became excessively sweet after the ice cream was finished. In summary, Black + Blue Steak House offered a memorable evening, with outstanding service from Aiden. While the Châteaubriand fell short of expectations, the Cesar salad and other menu items showcased the restaurant's potential.

Dining at this luxurious restaurant was a unique experience. The environment, location, food, service, etc. were awesome. Each dish was a culinary masterpiece, showcasing the chef's skill and creativity. From the exquisite presentation to the unique flavors, every detail was carefully curated. The staff's attentiveness added a personal touch, making us feel truly pampered. It was not just a meal; it was a sensory journey that left a lasting impression. Undoubtedly, a gastronomic adventure worth savoring.

Updating my review from 2-3yrs ago. Previously I had given black and blue a firm 5 stars. I always come here for special occasions as it’s my favourite steakhouse/fine dining spot but this time I really was disappointed and it spoiled the special evening I had planned for my partners birthday. We caught the end of happy hour and started with the charcuterie board. I’ve had this board many times during happy hour and wow this time I was really shocked by what was put in front of us. I felt embarrassed! For $21 this was a sad excuse for a charcuterie board. Then came the steaks and creamed spinach. The creamed spinach is one of my favourite things on the menu. But this time it was anything but creamed and I noticed it came in a very small serving dish compared to the large white bowls it had been served in the past which could easily be a side for 3. It was wilted in a watery sauce and I didn’t eat most of my steak because the entire bottom of it was coated with the spinach sauce. I also felt like my New York strip was less beefy/meaty than it has been in the past. Overall a disappointing experience this time. Prices have gone up since I was here in June but quality control and portion sizes have really gone down. For a high end restaurant I’m really appalled by what I was served. Unfortunately it seems that they have adopted the practice of “shrinkflation”. 2 stars because the service is always spectacular.

The food and service was stellar as always. We where celebrating my birthday and our Anniversary and you guys made the night very special. Lloyd was our server and he gave great recommendations for wine and meat selection. He also went into detail and even had a map of Japan his wife drew showing the regions and where the waygu comes from. We can't wait till we have a kid free night again so we can come back.

This is definitely one of the better steakhouses in Vancouver. The price although can be hard to absorb for an average night out, but this is definitely worth bringing people out for a special occasion. Food quality Prime rib 9.5/10 - just didn’t like the horseradish as it’s a very odd form that I have never had before but the prime rib itself was delicious. Porterhouse steak 10/10 - this was had rare and the cut and cook of it all was done to perfection Service was friendly and attentive throughout the experience. We found the food took a bit longer then usual to come out but otherwise it was a good experience. I’d definitely recommend this place for all the meat eaters out there :)

I love eating here when in Vancouver. The restaurant is cozy and classy. Service is always fantastic no matter if it's a special occasion or casual affair. Pro tip if driving, you can valet park for $16 which is about the same for 2.5 hours of metered street parking. The beef carpaccio is amazing and like butter in your mouth. This is the dish I keep coming in for. No other one has compared anywhere else. Recently tried the steak Diane and my friend had the beef wellington. Both were well plated and delicious and come with perfectly paired vegetables. I've had the tomahawk and all I can say is, wow. It was perfect. We even got to choose it! You can add many different family style sides but I highly recommend the mac and cheese sticks (can't remember if that's what they are called on the menu). I've tried a bunch of the family style sides and all are tasty and cooked to perfection. No gross and bland veggies here. Definitely check this place out if you live in the area and especially if you are visiting.

Friendly staff from start to finish! Host was welcoming, servers were knowledgeable, kind and professional and the GM came around to our table to make sure we were having a great dining experience... which we most certainly did! I took my friend here for her birthday. It was her first time dining at black & blue on their roof top. Super cute floral decor hanging from the ceiling😍. The food looked and tasted delicious and the drinks were equally yummy! Thank you for another memorable dining experience! Looking forward to returning.

This place was recommended for us to visit by the JW Marriott Parquet. It is a lovely venue withe 2 floors and seating outside to eat. We sat upstairs. I had the tomato salad and my friend had the crab cake which she said was delicious. I had a taste and agree. Would have that again. For main we had the steak which was big and very filling. So much we had to bring it with us. Service was very good. Would recommend for another visit the next time I come to visit Vancouver.

Such a lovely experience. If you appreciate meat and want experiential dining, this is the place to be. The place is so beautiful and the waiters are all so nice. Every dish was perfect. We were both fully stuffed with what we got. We each ordered a cut of meat on its own with two sides. Would highly recommend for all special occasions :)

Best. Dinner. Ever! I’m absolutely blown away by how beautiful and well done this restaurant is. No wonder it’s one of Vancouver’s finest and takes months to book a table on the rooftop patio. The food was exceptionally well made with quality ingredients. Even being fully booked didn’t slow down the service of the wait staff, still an amazing and laid back experience, no rushing, nice table talk and everyone’s meals came out well! Would definitely come here again even though the price it on the more expensive side. When I’m ready to try high end Kobe or Wagyu this would ideally be the place :)

Excellent excellent service by Ryan, he made the night truly special! We went to celebrate hubby’s birthday and the food was AMAZING. Started with some fresh oysters, table-side Caesar salad. For mains we had the Porterhouse Steak with fried Mac n Cheese sticks (to die for). We finished the meal with a butter cake board with a birthday message. We will definitely visit again!

Great happy hour downtown! The restaurant is very nice and classy and we made a reservation for two very easily. Service was prompt and attentive. We loved the nachos, Mac and cheese sticks and the calamari. The happy hour drinks were also delicious.

Very disappointed with my last visit. I took my sister out for their happy hour, while she was visiting Vancouver . I was super excited because I had remembered being amazing spot. The charcuterie board was pathetic. It looked like the left overs of a cheese board that had already been to a table. We had a total of six pieces of cheese on the board. The dish looked unfinished and bare, completely different from how I remembered it from previous visits. Before touching the board, we called the server over, who immediately grabbed the manager. He handled the situation by comping us an additional SIX pieces of meat. It was super embarrassing to bring my sister here especially after I was hyping it up to her. Over priced for what you get, wouldn’t recommend.

Everything was excellent, from a really friendly staff to an amazing dinner and dessert. If you visit Vancouver, you must visit this restaurant. Coming from Calgary, I think I know one or two things about stakes. The prime rib was so good.

Fantastic experience- incredible food, drinks and atmosphere. The beef wellington and mac and cheese straws were particularly indulgent. The staff are really impressive, Kent our server and Lisa the sommelier. Excellent recommendations and enthusiasm from both. Thank you for a memorable evening!

Black+Blue is a great place to try if you would like to eat steak at a upscale restaurant around downtown. My experience here took me by surprise because I have heard mixed reviews. I was super impressed by the service immediately upon entering, although we had no reservations we were seated immediately. We originally just wanted to come in for dessert after having dinner elsewhere, but our conversation about the menu with our waiter had us craving what they had on the dinner menu. He went above and beyond with all his recommendations. We ended up sharing the Mac and cheese sticks, A5 wagyu 6 oz ribeye , butter cake, and we got complimentary mango sorbet. All four of those dishes actually paired really well and had us feeling very satisfied. Definitely coming back again. I wish I could’ve gotten that waiters name as he made our dining experience amazing on top of the great food.

This is a 4.5 review. I have eaten here twice dinner (seated at a table with friends) and happy hour/dinner at the bar (solo). Both times the service has been exceptional. This place has outdoor street seating and a roof top (which I believe is hard to get into especially on a Saturday at 4pm). This place is know for it's steaks and they don't disappoint with their selection of cooking either. I had a beautiful rib eye and a lobster gnocchi special when I had dinner. My friends had Steak Diane and a Prime Rib and salads. Everyone cleaned their plates and commented on how good their choices were. The happy hour menu has a lot of variety and I decided to pick the mussels. What an excellent choice - they were juice and flavourful and surprisingly rather large and served with toasted buttered bread. Absolutely delicious. So why 4.5 well I also ordered a Beef Wellington. The meat was beautiful, the pastry and the coating was beautiful except someone decided to over salt the pastry alittle for my liking, my carrots were almost raw, and the jus served with it was truffle flavored. (So use it sparingly as it is very over powering which is a shame because you can tell the jus is glistening and has meaty extract in it). I would recommend that the chef change this to a simple red wine jus. I would definitely come back and do happy hour and try other things and I would recommend people to go here. Just read reviews to select the best choices for you off the menu.

After an awful experience at Au Comptoir restaurant at lunch time, our dinner at Black and Blue more than made up for it. A huge thank you to the staff. We received excellent service from the hostess to the servers. The food was delicious. We enjoyed our dinner and the whole experience!

Went for a late night dinner and it was a great experience. They brought out an off the menu appy for us and it was delicious. The Wellington was really nice as well. The side plates weren’t eye catching but pretty good fillers.

Black and Blue in Vancouver is an exceptional dining choice. From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us with warm smiles and provided outstanding service throughout our visit. They were attentive to our specific requests, ensuring that our dining experience was nothing short of remarkable. The steaks at Black and Blue were truly delicious, expertly seasoned, and cooked to perfection. Each bite was a succulent explosion of flavors with just the right amount of flavorful fat, enhancing the overall taste and tenderness. One of the standout dishes we tried was the calamari. The batter was a delightful combination of crispiness and lightness, adding an enjoyable texture to each bite. The calamari itself was tender and cooked to perfection! It's no wonder that Black and Blue remains a top choice for food enthusiasts in Vancouver.

We visited Black & blue for my son’s Birthday. It was so heart warming and very educational with lots of fun and laughters. Our server Kent’s service was beyond and above. He gave a quick tour and lessons to my two high school boys to the aged beef room, he replaced the slightly over cooked stake as soon as he saw it. He also gave us very good suggestions and detailed explanation about the menu. Learn that there are only two restaurants in Canada serve real Kobe beef ( the restaurant nest to them named Kobe but they don’t have real Kobe beef 🤣), one is in Toronto , one is them! The cappuccino was sooooo good that we ordered twice! My boys were totally satisfied with the foods and everything. We really enjoyed our time in Black and blue and I will always recommend this place for friends . ❤️

Celebrated my Birthday and must say it was one of the special ones. Whole credit goes to our server Michael who was phenomenal and made sure we were well taken care of! We sat on the rooftop and the Ambience was mesmerizing. We had Mushroom Rigatoni and the whole platter with Malbec which was topped off with Butter Cake Dessert. The food was just divine and so fulfilling. Definitely Recommended!

After almost 20 years I haven't seen my BFF Ryan, back in Canada during my business trip, I finally meet my friend Ryan again. Ryan invited me to "Black+Blue" for dinner where he works. Walking into the restaurant, the host was super friendly welcome us, and lead us to our table, seeing all the interior design, I fall in love with this restaurant immediately. Love the vibes for sure. Every staff working there smiles and is super friendly to the guests. Let me feel special and joyful. Foods are amazing here, love the appetizers, and super tasty. The steak will be the No.1 for sure. They also have a roof restaurant, and the vibes are also beautiful. I'm so grateful that Ryan took me to this restaurant and overwhelmed by the food and awesome staff. If you are looking for a No.1 steakhouse in Vancouver, I'm sure you will fall in love with "Black+Blue" as I do. Eat, Pray, and Love!!

11/10 for B+B Gratitude to our waitress Lisa. Exceptional customer service and excellent food. 100% recommend the Tomahawk DO NOT MISS OUT on the flame show desert. I didn't catch the gentleman's name who prepared our dish but it was definitely next level.

I am glad my wife and I chose this restaurant as our way back to some sort normality in dining out. The staff were amazing, our Server Brandon, attentive, accommodating and just the right amount of being there so you didn’t feel neglected or forgotten. Stephen, the sommelier, very interesting, and hospitable with a good knowledge. The food was wonderful, with a small mishap, one which was immediately rectified with a sincere apology, multiple times, by multiple people. I can see why this is a favourite of so many. I had never been there but my wife had been a few times, prior the pandemic. All I can say is that I will definitely be going back again and again.

Attended happy hour with work colleagues. Not easy to get a table for 8 on the roof, so we ended up in two sets of 4. Food and service were good. Very trendy customers. Saw a few seafood platters go by which looked amazing.

One of the best steak restaurant in town. The New York Steak and Salmon were perfectly cooked and delicious! The services was impeccable. Great place for a romantic dinner. We sat on the 2nd floor looking down onto the main floor, great atmosphere, with more privacy yet attentive services.
