I stayed here for a total of four nights. It is very much so a party hostel! The staff were incredible, very friendly people. The hostel was apparently established in 1897, so it is very cool to be in a place that millions of people from around the world had been in, experiencing the same thing. The building itself is pretty clean, but if you're allergic to cats, it's best if you don't stay here, as they do have a cat that stays in the common area and sometimes goes into the first floor rooms. A big warning that I wish someone had told me is that the bar downstairs will, on some nights, play their music so loudly that the entire building will shake, and there doesn't seem to be a place that you can't hear it. The one night that I stayed, there were a couple guys that were locals in the room I was staying in. They started talking in the middle of the night about how they were from East Hastings St. And how they've both done some "really bad" things. It's great that this hostel is supporting locals, but just keep your items locked in the lockers provided. They do not have locks that you can buy from them, so you'll need your own. Stay safe and enjoy the party scene!!

Not what we expected. Pictures online looked great however hostel very run down and smelled of urine. No ventilation in rooms and difficult to sleep at night. We booked 4 nights however only stayed the first and last as was convenient for the airport. Found alternative accomodation for the other nights due to reasons above. On a positive note the rooms were clean as were the bathrooms. Would not recommend this hostel. Spend a bit extra and get a hotel room or better hostel. Area also not safe at night.

Rustic, well worn building with creaky floors, chipping paint, and a resident cat name Oreo who may or may not sleep in your room. Young, lively and (likely) drunk guests from all over the world. Weekly beer pong tournaments on Saturday nights in the common room. Attach to/directly over a dive bar/dance club that blasts modern and retro beats until 3am. Room was a bit stuffy during the warm summer days, but cools off nicely at night. Who spends their day in a hostel room anyway? The drain in the shower wasn't clear enough to handle the flow from the shower, and the water in the basin threatened to overflow. It's location in Gastown can't be beat for a hostel in downtown Vancouver. If you came to Vancouver to party, this is your place. A total dive, and worth every penny. 10/10, would recommend.

I am travelling on a budget and you canā€™t really beat the location for the price. Itā€™s easy to get all over Vancouver from Gastown with lots of transit close by. Thatā€™s kind of where the pros end unfortunately. The Cambie Hostel doesnā€™t look even remotely like the photos online (Expedia). The building is 128 years old and hasnā€™t been cared for well. The floor boards are rotten and uneven, the rooms have some dangerous wiring in them and the shared rooms donā€™t lend themselves to much privacy (like curtains around the beds). The bathroom is so small that you canā€™t really change in there either. No toilet paper 2/3 nights. The cat is cute, but surprising. I woke up to him curled up at my feet, sound asleep which startled me a tiny bit. I would have thought someone would put that on the website or third party listings so people with allergies are aware. He is very cute though. I like the bar, but itā€™s loud. I sleep through anything, so it didnā€™t bother me too much. The man smoking meth in the menā€™s bathroom wasā€¦. Something of an experience. Donā€™t know if heā€™s living here or notā€¦

I was initially nervous staying here after reading certain reviews, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised. The bathrooms were small, but my room was fine. I stayed in a four bed all female room. I'm glad I did because it definitely made a difference in terms of cleanliness and my feelings of overall safety as a woman. It definitely gets noisy at night because of the bar below, but it wasn't unbearable. Just bring earplugs or noise canceling headphones. The common room was a decent place to hang out for down time and to charge my phone. I also had a pleasant experience with the staff as Fernando was very kind and accommodating. The great location is what makes the hostel bearable. I was out most of the day and was really only at the hostel to sleep. At the end of the day, I think it's important to keep expectations lower for hostels in order to make your stay better. I wouldn't stay here for more than 2 nights. The hostel was definitely overpriced, but my stay was overall tolerable.

Cambie Bar is a fantastic spot for a night out! The atmosphere is electric, offering the perfect blend of energy and comfort for an unforgettable experience. The staff are incredibly welcoming and efficient, ensuring everyone has a great time. With a wide range of drinks to choose from, you're sure to find something that hits the spot. It's a great place to meet new people or chill with friends, with vibes that make every visit special. Definitely a go-to destination for anyone looking for a lively and enjoyable evening. Latin nights are highly recommend!

Cambie hostel may offer its guests a bed, but on the weekend, it won't give you a chance to have a good night's sleep. The hostel operates a bar that plays loud music till 3 AM, with the stereo system installed just under the first floor of the hostel. That means people staying at the first floor could put Earplugs to block the noise, but not the base. As I said, the hostel operates both! Besides that, when we packed our bags before leaving and got out our food, the supervisor yelled at us for taking food into the room. That moment it felt more like a detention camp than a place that I paid good money to get friendly accomodation. They just seemed to do the minimum, and it was so disappointing. Even with it being in a good location, I'd never recommend it.

This hostel was not at all what I thought it would be. There were so many issues and is definitely not worth $80 per night. The hostel is right above a bar/club that blasts loud music until 3am and literally shakes the bunk beds. I got no sleep there. On top of that there are no curtains and you have zero privacy. My boyfriend and I requested to switch rooms because of the noise and ended up switching back to the first room because the other one smell like urine. It was nauseating. Please do not stay here if youā€™re sensitive to smell or a light sleeper. The bathrooms were also extremely small. The womenā€™s room only had two stalls and two showers and every time I went to the washroom it was so crowded. The only good thing about this hostel is the cat, Oreo, because heā€™s a sweetheart and the staff were really nice. I was really disappointed with the hostel.

The guy who works the midnight shift is less than useless. I had the displeasure of dealing with him twice, and both times were awful. Not only is he snarky and rude, but he provides false information and doesn't even bother to try and help you. On our first night, we asked him if it was possible to upgrade to one of the private rooms, as we had someone joining us the next day. He told us that there was availability and that he could do it, but we just needed to come back with the person. Fair enough. We returned the next morning, and the morning staff tell us that the information given to us the previous night was completely false. They were nice enough to refund us for the remaining nights, as we now had to find a different place to stay. Later that day, I realize I had forgotten a shirt at the Hostel. I return to retrieve it, but unfortunately, the useless guy was on shift. I asked him if he could go see if it was still there (even gave him the EXACT location of the shirt) and without a thought, he said no. I asked why, and he shouted "people are sleeping" over the blaring music coming from the bar which is DIRECTLY under the rooms. What a joke. After staying just one night let me tell you NO ONE was sleeping. He again displayed a very "get out of my sight, I have better things to do" attitude. So, I give up and try again the next day. Whoever was working the early night shift (~8pm) was FANTASTIC. Not only did he check the room to see if the shirt was there, he even checked the cleaner's rooms after learning from another guest that the cleaners had taken the shirt that day. If only I had dealt with him the night before. He went SO above and beyond to find my shirt. If you're reading this, THANK YOU. The shirt was never found, and I assume that the cleaners probably stole it. (It *was* a pretty awesome shirt). Overall a nightmare of an experience, but what can you expect from something this cheap?

The staff were friendly enough but tbh the place is falling apart. The kitchen was quite messy and the floors seemed to be rotting. The worst thing without a doubt is that the rooms are situated above a bar/club that can play music into the early hours. On three of our four night stay this was the case and was so loud it literally vibrated the bunk beds. There were also no charging ports next to most beds. If you stay here you're really rolling the dice on your bed, room and mental sanity each sleep. Sadly the worst hostel I stayed in in Canada out of 7 others in varying cities.

This place is not great. It was gross and outdated. The Hallway smelt like someone had peed in it, the rooms are smelly and feel really dirty. The blankets looked like they had never been washed and were covered in stains. They have a rule that food canā€™t be consumed in your room, however the common area has 3 small table that fit two people and every time we went there were people hanging out at the tables so we had to find other places to eat. The common area has food thatā€™s been left for months and well outdated so thereā€™s no where to store your food because itā€™s full of old food. The staff were also rude, like the idea of serving us was an inconvenience to them. So check in and out was not smooth. Itā€™s also not in the best area. There were sirens all night and screaming from outside I would not recommend this place.

Overall a pretty terrible hostel. Small kitchen for how many people are staying there. The bathroom only had one functioning toilet on the floor I was on during my stay and there is nowhere to change for the showers in the bathroom which if you are staying in a mixed dorm is not ideal. The general cleanliness was pretty poor. No fans or ventilation in the rooms which during hot summer months meant about one hour of sleep. I appreciate that air con is expensive however a fan per room wouldnā€™t go amiss - and given the price per night of the hostel i think it is a necessary expense. The hostel is a few blocks from east Hastings street which I accidentally stumbled upon.. a heads up from the reception would have been nice as a solo traveller. The staff were nice and the cat was cute. Thatā€™s about all I have to say that is positive.

This place feels like a slum. Easily one of the worst hostels I have ever stayed at. The location is convenient with you being very close to everything in downtown. But oh man, what a terrible place to stay. Rooms and facilities are terrible. Thereā€™s hardly any air circulation in the rooms (even if you open up windows), so it feels really stuffy and uncomfortable in summer months, no fans either. The washrooms are super cramped. For people staying on first floor, thereā€™s loud thumping music till late from bar downstairs on Fridays and Saturdays. The neighborhood isnā€™t super-safe to be honest, with lots of homeless people around doing weird random things at night. If you canā€™t find another place to stay in Vancouver sure, stay here. But if you can, avoid this.

The good part about this place is the price. I got a private bedroom with a friend so the cost was much lower than a hotel or even other hostels in the area. However, the washroom was really dirty, there was something black growing in the corner of the shower. It was also tiny and had barely any space to move (you need to step in the shower to open the washroom door). No space to even keep a towel, weird angles for the toilet paper placement. We ended up using the common washrooms for safety as well as convenience. The bedroom was big enough and we also got one that had a good amount of natural light. The floors were also very old and the wood was coming out in some places. Overall, decent place if you're just looking to sleep. Otherwise, you get what you pay for.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bed was comfortable and the bedroom was clean-ish. The 1st floor bathroom was dirty, damp and mouldy. The common room was also very dirty and smelly. The music from downstairs was incredibly loud on some nights despite earplugs. On some occasions the bar downstairs was more like a nightclub. I would probably stay there again though since itā€™s so cheep and in a good location.

There is a bar downstairs, and you can constantly hear loud music until midnight(sometimes until 1/2am). The music is loud enough to trembles the wall and floor. The water stopped running during my stay. Also, during my stay I got my chargers stolen twice both in my room and the public space. The only value here is relatively cheap price but nothing else. If you have enough budget, avoid staying at this hostel. Plus, use a padlock all the time - this place is not 100% theft free.

Very dirty, and obscenely loud. Music blasting from the bar downstairs - no mention on the website. Stayed in hostels in Europe and these are always clean, and quiet even in party hostels. Just awful - do not stay here if you value sleep. Please rethink your approach to hosteling!

I love hostels but despite some historic charm, this place is just an uncomfortable all around. Don't book here if you want to sleep, music from the bar below plays until 2AM and vibrates the beds on the second floor. Front lobby smells like pee.

This hostel was overpriced for what it is, not to mention their photos of the rooms online are misleading. It looks like they're going to put you in a gorgeous room with high ceilings and windows and plenty of room, when in reality we were in a nearly windowless hot box with no A/C, no fans, and no curtains for privacy, so we had to string up the only sheet we were given just to create a barrier to the other bunk two feet across. The most important thing you're going to want to know - it's right above a bar so don't count on sleep. If this place had been cheaper it would've been less irritating.

If you like AC/DCā€™s epic song, ā€œYou shook me all night long!ā€ Youā€™re going to love The Cambie Hostel! I could not get this song out of my head the whole time at the hostel. ā€œAnd you shook me all night long Yeah, you shook me all night long!ā€ The 128 year old bar directly below blasts music so loud it literally shakes the floors, walls, beds, windows and exhausted travelers trying to sleep. You canā€™t close the windows to block the sound because thatā€™s the only source of ventilation. So lay back, and sing along to the music! Yeah the bathrooms are tiny. And the showers are the size of mini phone booths sandwiched next to each other, so creative pre planning is required for a successful shower. BYOTP just in case since the they are often out of toilet paper. Other than that the vibe is awesomely old school and unique. The bar is the oldest in the city with cheap beer. They have a functioning kitchen and sitting area with floor to ceiling windows that you can mostly see through with great views of the Harbour Center tower. Itā€™s definitely grunge but not grimy. Things are clean but nothing sparkles since everything is very old and has its own charm. The location is an easy walk to Waterfront Station, Canada Place and Chinatown with incredible cheap eats. Just be aware there are certain no-go streets nearby and you should be fine. I honestly had second thoughts about booking this place for my family and wished I had booked Samesun Hostel instead. But when Samesun burned down while we were at Cambie, I didnā€™t have anymore second thoughts. The staff were friendly and responsive. I guarantee you that your stay at the Cambie will be unforgettable!

It's a hostel and very affordable price per room (you have to share a room with another person, there's a bunk bed), so I had my expectation lower. It's a very old building from my understanding. The bathroom area was somewhat decent, not that clean. Since it's a common area some people don't keep it clean. Overall I enjoyed my stay. A lot of people were from my age group (mid twenties) so it was nice chatting with them. The kitchen and the common space were the best place to have a chat with others. My only problem was, there's a bar downstairs and they were playing very loud music. The hostel is at a key location, everything was very closer. I would say one thing though, while I was checking out of the hostel, I felt sad. The place and the people were overall nice

Stayed at Hostel for New Year's Eve. Room is ok. Not to cozy but there is fan. Not a lot of space but good enough for some luggages. Pub downstairs which can be a pain if you are staying on the first floor. Can barely hear the noise on the 2nd floor. They have a local friendly cat in the hostel wandering about. Good place for budget and for meeting people. Staff are very nice and accommodating.

A great place to chill, with actually responsible management! My partner and I had a major issue during our visit to the bar with an interaction with security. I was left really concerned that there wasn't much of a sense of community care here. But, after contacting management and expressing those concerns, I received a response that detailed exactly what had been done to address the issue to make sure it didn't happen again. The response was concrete and left me satisfied that what had happened to us was totally out of the ordinary. A lot of establishment will just brush you off when you reach out about this type of experience, but the management at the Cambie actually took accountability in the way that matters - by addressing the problem and taking the time to tell us how that had been done. Cheers to that! In other news, this is a lovely, non-pretentious and cheerful joint where you will have a blast meeting people from all over. Definitely had a lot of laughs when we visited. Highly recommend if you're looking for a fun time,

I would not recommend this hostel. Stuff is nice and the hostels is mostly clean but the negative points are way to strong The kitchen is super mega small and not really good designed and equipped. The bar belonging to the hostel has such loud music that sleeping is impossible The whole house is vibrating even with ear plugs you can hear every song and the beat via vibration It was nowhere mentioned and I donā€™t understand how people are still staying here. I will need to find an other place on short notice as itā€™s impossible to sleep here for five days! You should definitely think about sleeping here except if you are all night out anyway!

This hostel has a lot of negativity online about it but overall, for our group it was above expectations. The building is old and there's no AC but for the location and price it's hard to expect a 5 star experience. However, we did enjoy the proximity to downtown and the bar downstairs was great. Also, we were placed on the 2nd floor so noise was not an issue. Regarding the bathrooms, they could use a cleaning a little more often but it was livable. If this is your only option in your price range it's not a bad stay.

Easily the worst hostel Iā€™ve ever stayed at. Extremely overpriced (~$70 CAD a night), dirty, and no a/c or fans just partially open windows that canā€™t possibly comply with the fire code. The floors arenā€™t even level. Also, it isnā€™t just loud on the weekendsā€” the whole place actually vibrates. Thereā€™s also a cat, which isnā€™t disclosed in advance (Iā€™m allergic). For context, this was such a miserable experience I genuinely considered just pulling an all nighter at a nearby 24hr bakery.

This is located at one edge of Downtown Vancouver but it wasn't located close to the places I needed. The rooms had heritage to them and a modern touch which was nice to enjoy. The staff was the highlight of my trip honestly. They are informative and friendly to the guests. The environment of the hostel felt like more of a hotel than a hotel unfortunately. I'm usually able to make friends and get to know other travelers but it didn't happen this trip, no one was around the common areas a lot. There was 40% off to the Cambie bar, that place was really good for the price I paid so make it a part of your trip if you go. This place can get rough at night. Not much parking as well and kitchen was really small.

It is a historic building, so it comes with the usual hang ups you would expect; clean but doesn't always look clean because of the age of everything, uneven floor boards, no sound proofing, no ventilation for the rooms. The latter was particularly difficult during the heat wave and the rooms were unbearable the first time we stayed. Because we had already booked a night upon our return to Vancouver before we stayed the first time, we did return when the heatwave broke and the rooms were a lot more manageable temperature then. However some fans for the summer months would go a long way. Oreo the cat is adorable. Really convenient location, definitely a party hostel (which I was warned about in various ways before we booked, I don't know how some reviewers were still surprised by this), pumping local nightlife, cheapest place to stay by a longshot.

Very affordable place with relatively large dorms. No curtains in front of your bed. The common area could be a little bigger or cosy and sometimes not everyone fit into the kitchen, but it was okay. However some basics (like salt or oil) would be very nice. If you canā€˜t sleep with noise choose another hostel, there is a very noisy bar beneath the hostel. This however has it perks - socialising is made pretty easy.

All I wanted was a decent nights sleep during my one night stay in this hostel but that seemed like too much to ask for. Their is absolutely no sound proofing between the bar and the room I was staying in on the first floor. The music from the bar was so loud and bass heavy that it was making the floor in my room shake. I might aswell have tried to sleep in the bar itself. Very disappointed as I did not get any value for money in this instance. I wont stay here again but for the sake of future customers I have they rectify this issue.

Especially the washrooms weren't really clean. There was no space to change, toilet paper was missing. The kitchen was also pretty messy. The location is theoretically nice for travelling as it is close to many hotspots. However, as it is very close to many bars and clubs too, it gets extremely loud at night. The beds vibrate and you are able to actually hear the lyrics of the music playing. Everything else was alright, the cat was kind of a bonus. Overall, would not recommend.

Sadly, the hostel cat vomitted on my bed one day and luckily someone in my room told me, otherwise, if Iā€™d come back at night, I might have slept on it. Itā€™s not the catā€™s fault, but no-one apologised until I went down to complain, and I asked for a refund for the night and they gave me half which tbh is not good enough. If youā€™re going to have a cat, these things happen, but you have to be held accountable when people are paying $75 or more a night for a substandard hostel in general. No plug next to my bed, but some beds had 4 plugs. Toilets often had no toilet paper in them from the night, until late in the morning. Theyā€™d also close the bathroom to clean it for 30 mins when itā€™s peak waking up time for everybody. Should be done at 6am when people are still asleep, and then again after check out. Could do with more hostel activities in the evening, so people could actually meet each other. They have karaoke downstairs one night, but itā€™s not really social if you havenā€™t met people upstairs. I

The staff is helpful and very nice. Sleeping bunks are ok, not exceptional either (youā€™ll have to bring your own lock, they donā€™t sell or lend any). Kitchen is very small and usually crowded. Showers and toilets are ridiculously small: 3 of each on each floor, not very isolated, showers are not very practical since you cannot hang things around. Rooms are right above a bar, so it can be very noisy at times. Overall, too expensive for what it actually is.

One of the coolest hostels in Vancouver. Smells a bit weird but I'm overall happy with staying there. Don't expect much and you will be fine. Staff is pretty friendly especially the night time guy. He gave amazing recommendations for breakfast.

Cute old building but impossible to sleep with dorms located directly above the bar. Bar closes at 2:30am. Very stuffy and hot. Building is a firetrap with exposed wiring ( as in, outlets hanging out of the walls ) difficult to open doors, and clutter. There is no ifs, WHEN the emergency happens, there WILL be deaths. Too bad, it's a funky place.

I live just around the corner from here and itā€™s a really good crowd mostly students from nearby Universities , Colleges , and specialized programs . I have been to a few parties in the Pub but it was a few years back in my day of learning and experience. But I pass by there often enough to see that it is still going strong with laughter! I donā€™t think itā€™s a Sports viewers bar. Mostly students I believe.

Fine. It's a hostel. My bunk was to the back of the building so it was pretty quiet. Felt very secure, so many keys. My only complaint is in a shared dorm there is nowhere private to change clothes. The toilets are tiny, 2 cubicles and 2 showers with no dry floor space except at 7am. Don't want to change clothes there.

Definitely saw bed bugs in my sheets and have unexplained skin issues after staying a few nights. When I told the staff they said the couldn't find any but at least they refunded my last night. Signs saying no food in rooms probably due to mice, but there were mice in mine anyway. You can hear them under the floorboards as well. Music and bass from the bar until very very late, like 3am late, weird drunk people in the hallways in the middle of the night. Male staff member entered my room twice without knocking, and when I left so he could clean the other beds I came back and he left his cleaning bottle all over my bed. Its generally very dirty and unhygienic even though the staff always seems to be cleaning. Definitely seen better days and I don't recommend staying here unless you're desperate and want to hate your life. Only positives - oreo is cute and the staff were nice and tried to be helpful, all the negatives are things beyond their control.

Paid $195 for one night private room. Price is too high for what you get. You have to pay $35 in addition to room charge (kind of hidden fees). The private room on 2nd floor has a bunk bed, 2 stools, not properly working window, and a shared unclean bathroom. Hostel had a weird smell. Overall, not a satisfactory experience. This place needs a maintenance. Nearby hotels are nicer n cheaper.

Checked into the room, that only had 1 mattress between the 2 beds that we booked and no sheets on the other. The 2 other guests in the room when checked in claimed that they booked a private room. And in the morning when we asked to be compensated about the no bedding situation we didnā€™t even get an apology! Very poor service and will not be returning.

The worst place I have ever lived in. The rooms are smelling badly, the common area, lobby is too dirty and smelly. Toilets are even worst than the Public toilets in India. Please dont waste your money, you can find something better from HI (hostel international) , i have booked this hostel with assumptions that it belongs to HI, but trust me , itā€™s not. My stay with this hostel was fantastic! If youā€™re looking for an economical stay while visiting Vancouver, this is one to consider. The building has got some history in it. Iā€™ve got a private room and it was decent and very clean. Thereā€™s a shared kitchen and a common area and also their resident cat Oreo. Staff was amazing, special thanks to Victor and Simona for making my stay pleasant. As a guest at the hostel, you also get a daily 40% off coupon at the Cambie Bar downstairs which you can use for up to $50. Overall, it was an awesome stay and will be coming back to this place the next time Iā€™ll be in the area!

This hostel is in a central location in Downtown and the price is affordable for Vancouver city. My girlfriend and I booked the private room on level 2, which was good because we didnā€™t hear any of the music playing downstairs in the pub. Th place is very minimalist but youā€™re paying for price and location. Unfortunately, we had to leave early because we experienced some allergies *note the place is really old*. However, Thomas was friendly. He provided great customer service and was able to assist us. Thanks again!

Great place for the price, the real treasure is the bar attached to the hostel. Happy hour specials are great, food for around 10 and drinks for 5 !

If you want to sleep or wash don't go here. Extremely loud from the bar below and this was 2 floors up and with ear plugs in! It's not made obvious this is a party hostel so might be the right vibe for you... The showers are the worst I have ever seen in a hostel. There's nowhere to put your clothes or dry and the bathrooms were dirty and small. At least the staff seemed friendly though.

Nothing about this hostel is quiet - but that's great. Do not stay here if you're looking for early nights and sound sleeping, but if you want to stay right in the heart of gas town and stay out late it's going to be hard to beat the Cambie (both the hostel and the bar downstairs). Lots of other restaurants, bars and breweries nearby for food and drinks.

This is a true hostel. Meaning it has been lived in and loved. Beds and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. The building is old but cool. Located right downtown, and the cat Oreo is an added bonus šŸ˜½

Don't stay here if you're looking to sleep. The hostel is located above what looks to be the hottest bar (honestly it was more like a club) for 19-23 year olds. The line for the bar wraps around the block and the excessive noise from the music and screaming people won't stop until 3am. Even if you put in ear plugs the base still vibrates your bed. The showers are poorly designed, there's no area between the tiny shower stall and the common (gendered) washroom to disrobe in privacy and no hooks for your stuff. The kitchen is messy, unlike other hostels, it doesn't seem like staff cleans the kitchen so relying solely on guests leaves a lot of room for error. There were food lockers with check out dates of many months prior. The fridges were just a heaping mess. The floors and doors are creaky so there's no way to avoid disrupting people or being disrupted at night. And the cat, oh the poor cat. A hostel with a loud, base heavy bar downstairs and tons of people coming and going is not a healthy environment for a cat. It was showing stress in an aggressive manner.

The convenient location is the biggest plus. It does place you right in the nightlife and pub culture + Amsterdam culture. Convenient to the metro trains. But, it is a bare bones hostel. The rooms are hot (in summer) with only window ventilation. The public washrooms are small and rank. If you like hostel life and a variety of travelers in a common living arrangement, then this may be your place. Know that it is a basic hostel. You get a bunk bed in the room(s). That's it. You may end up sleeping on the top bunk and have to navigate the climb up and down. You may have a ceiling light in your face, which means midnight lights awakening you suddenly, depending on the assigned roomies.

Overall a good hostel. The bathrooms on the 1st floor are small and tight to maneuver but the beds are comfy and clean and the bathrooms are cleaned regularly and well maintained. I felt safe while staying here and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The pub downstairs has loud music from about 9pm to 2am and it is quite noisy if you're sleeping on the 1st floor. The pub itself is fun and energetic and has good food, so the partiers and night owls will probably enjoy themselves, but if you prefer quiet, then you probably wont like it here if you're on the 1st floor... Earplugs do help though. My friend who slept on the 2nd floor couldn't hear any music. Also, the 20% off bar food/drink voucher is only good for a certain time period: after traditional lunch time and before dinner time (its more of a several-hour happy hour situation). It was a good experience overall.

Perfect location to stay at when in Vancouver. Old school style. Washroom looks like my old high schoolā€™s with added shower in the room. Since they have the bar downstairs and the place is old, you would want to ask to be roomed maybe on the 2nd floor because you will hear all the noise and vibration of the music from downstairs if youā€™re just a floor above. If that doesnā€™t bother you then youā€™re in a perfect place. They also have a house cat named Oreo, heā€™ll be all over the place and visit each room whenever he finds your door open. He almost came home with me as he wonā€™t get out of my luggage during my packing time šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ All in all a place I will revisit and strongly recommend to others.

No idea why people are leaving bad reviews, stayed there last week . It's a pleasant place with friendly staff and an awesome cat . Yes , if you don't like loud music late at night don't stay there but it shuts off around 2ish . Rooms are tidy and clean , beds are comfortable and it's affordable. Kitchen is cleaned by staff regularly along with showers and toilets . When I come back I'll probably stay here again . Location is amazing . People leaving low or bad reviews are either too precious or entitled they should probably stick to hotels .

had a great stay for the price ! The best part of my stay was the helpful staff. Kyle and Jen were super sweet and friendly and made me feel welcomed and helped me through a minor dilemma I had. Definitely would come back next time I'm in bc šŸ˜šŸ˜

For the most part, I had a positive experience. Clean room for the right price. Hostel changed its policy on shared bunks during my stay despite having assured me otherwise. I understand given the circumstances and overall, I was satisfied with my stay and the staff.

Very cute little hostel. It can't be more convenient and walkable. It's a trendy and tourist attractive neighborhood but too close to the poorest area in Canada so just make sure you keep an eye on your belongings while walking around. I was robbed in the train station near by. I'm thankful of such helpful staff who took care of me and went beyond their way to help me. Stay there..

They said I couldn't stay unless I had a credit card in my name. It was very cold today & I have a specialist appointment at Saint Paul's hospital tomorrow but they didn't care & turned me away. I've stayed in hostels all over the world & they don't do this. The clerk claimed it was because there are homeless people around but hostels in Seattle or Los Angeles are surrounded by the homeless & those hostels didn't need a credit card. Bad policy. Ruined my visit to Vancouver. I asked to speak with her supervisor or boss but he was "on vacation" so in other words: GO AWAY!

worst stay ever. The building is old, dark and dirty. Especially the toilet and shower room are hell. Making love started in the middle of the night in the shared room, and I couldn't sleep at all due to the worst noise. I asked for a room change the next day, but they didn't change it. I felt like I was in prison.

The most expensive hostel Iā€™ve stayed in with very basic amenities. Bunk beds are low quality, no charging ports next to your bed. Loud bar downstairs. The showers werenā€™t great. The place is run down. I checked out in the early hours of the morning and the older male receptionist was unpleasant. Iā€™ve been to hostel all over Australia and Asia and Im very disappointed in the value of this Canadian hostel. They can do better.

Friendly and great location. Bit on tatty side. Shower rooms have no dry area and too small . Great kitchen and social space but always too hot. No ventilation. The adjoining bar pumps out loud music until way past midnight. So don't expect a quiet night. Location is a winner if you need Canada Place tours or cruise terminal.

Didnā€™t sleep well last night due to a customer sneezing and release noise frequently. When I told front desk about the situation they immediately changed my room. Finally can have a good night hereā€¦ Regarding this is the cheapest hostel I could find in Vancouver, and in such an amazing locations, Iā€™m pretty satisfied. Though, there is a lot to improve! Looking forward for your change and next time I come to Vancouver, Iā€™d still like to stay here for a few nights:)

Good location and pretty cool staying in a heritage building too!

I left early. This place is unbearable in summer. Even at night the rooms are sweltering hot with no ventilation. (ineffective fan and one window cracked does nothing.) I would only recommend this if your other option is sleeping on the street. Close to Gastown so I guess you can consider it a good location but there are also people passed out on the sidewalk out front of the entrance. At least they get a cool breeze

Service was great and they were very responsive after booking. The price was decent for DT Vancouver (approx 95$/night/person). People seemed very nice and social. They had a community area and kitchen which is nice for socializing and not spending too much on takeout. However, the hostel has no air circulation, it was about 15 degrees warmer than outside and the humidity (which there is none in BC - comparatively to ON) was atrocious. Even though everything looked relatively clean, it all felt very iky. The women's bathroom was locked, so yay for safety but, there are showers in there so you can just imagine how the humidity clung to the air. Because it was so warm, we had to keep our window open, there was no screen. There's a bar on the first floor so, obviously it was very noisy until very late. You sleep 4 in one room so not too bad if you're all on the same schedule! I would be careful straying too far at night. Depending on the direction you take, you might find yourself amongst a throng of homeless people who did not seem very sober. All in all I gave it two stars, since I could live with staying here for one night. We quickly changed our 3-night stay for a 1-night stay and were penalized by having to pay for a second night.

Stayed here for a couple of nights this past week. Staff were excellent, bathrooms were clean and atmosphere was great. I highly recommend it. I stayed on the 2nd floor and had my own room. Location is great. You are steps from Water St. and other cool areas of Vancouver. You can walk to Stanley Park in 30-45 minutes (or take transit, which is also great in this city)! Would stay here again :)

I wish it would leave me a 0 star review cause mine and my friends experience was awful. The rooms look nothing like the pics. Frezzing cold rooms. Dirty rooms. Most of the cooking facilities don't work Majority of the staff are rude. The night time security guard is a creep, following you round the hostel, spying on you round corners and even walking in to your room at night time. It's advertised as a party hostel but it's run Like a prison. The only party side is the bar below the hostel which will keep you awake to all hours every night. 10 years of travelling and one of the worst places I have been.
