We were staying for 1 night and arrived around 9am from the airport. We hoped to leave our luggage while going out in the city until check in time but the receptionist said that wasn’t possible. We tried to pay for early check in at that point and the receptionist told us that would be impossible. He wasn’t very accommodating or trying to help our situation. So we ended up staying at the Ibis Budget Hotel across the street, they were very friendly, let us check into our room by 10am with no extra cost, and the room had air condition and was 20€ cheaper than the private Eklo room that doesn’t have air condition. I’m glad we were able to cancel with Eklo.

Avoid!!! This is a hostel without A/C. Don’t make the same mistake than me and run! Really small rooms, no privacy, the bad is for kids (in size) and the shower keeps failing. Believe me: you can find something better.

Overall wouldn't recommend. Even though the hotel is cheaper than average, the level of comfort and service is so low it makes it a simple place to sleep and have a shower. The twin bedroom is a 10m2 space with 2 beds and a bathroom. The bathroom exhaust fan stays on during the night, and the room sound isolation was poor, so we often heard noises from other guests (lack of privacy). The room also has no AC, which was ok during the winter (1ºC outside) since the room was warm. All rooms on the ground floor are accessible from the street, which made us feel insecure. Also, our door was hard to close and lock (it looked like the lock was slightly loose). Last but not least, the only window in the room points towards the street, so everyone passing by can see straight through. The amenities were simply 2 bags of body soap, 2 toilet paper rolls and 2 bath towels. We had no hand soap, hair dryer (we could ask for one at the reception though) or hand towels. As for the food, we didn't try the breakfast, but tried to have dinner there at 8.30pm and the kitchen was closed. We were not given any recommendations for restaurants nearby.

In my opinion a really weird concept, which left me with the feeling that I have to pay for everything and still don't get what I truly need, a private and livable space. It's open for everyone, what is really nice, but at what cost? The rooms are tiny, have only one small window, viewable for everyone/ zero privacy, and are very hot. The temperature is not acceptable. The staff tells you there is no AC due to the environmental concept, but then provides you with a fan, what are farce. When we left our room, it felt way to refreshing. The outside temperature was between 23-27 degrees C. You only get 1 towel, you have to use for showering and handwashing, for what you also have to provide your own soap. The concept also lacks an environmental friendly energy production/ solar power on the roof and the menu heavily favours meat dishes. Same on the breakfast, low stack of cheese and only cow milk products. and before I forget, don't bring to much electronic devices, because you won't be able to charge them due to a very low number of power outlets. On the other side, you can easily access public transport and bicycles.

Reasonably priced hotel close to tram and bus to get you to the city. Nice simple breakfast if that's what you need. Rooms are very small so would not recommend for more than a couple of nights. Reason for 2 stars only is that this accommodation DOES NOT provide any luggage storage, not even for a charge. We were so surprised to hear this and really spoilt the day as we had a later flight. Sort this out please....

Eklo is an economical, clean base for visiting Bordeaux city centre. It is a 20 min walk or simple tram ride over the bridge to the main town. Potential guests should be advised that all rooms are accessed from external walkways with no internal hallways as you find in a usual hotel. Many rooms are accessed from external walkways on the ground floor just beside the road. We didn’t feel particularly comfortable when allocated such a room and the staff kindly allocated us an alternative on the first floor. The room was basic but relatively stylish and totally functional. There was however a long fire alarm at around 23:45 on one night of our stay which was not turned off quickly and no acknowledgement of this lengthy interruption to our rest was made by the hotel team for the remainder of our stay. We found this a little disappointing given the disruption it caused. What food and drink we had at Eklo was pleasant and there appeared to be a diverse menu but the staff ultimately were the property’s downfall. There seems to be an unnecessary distinction in role between those working on the bar and those working on reception, despite it being all one workspace. Staff were unable to answer hotel related questions while serving a drink and when waiting to ask a hotel question at the hotel desk, staff would totally ignore you if they were unoccupied but on ‘drink duty’. Indeed a member of staff summoned his colleague to the hotel desk unwilling to venture away from drinks responsibilities, this colleague took an exceedingly long time to appear and when he did so was on his personal mobile and then proceeded to answer an inbound hotel call, all the while ignoring an in person customer. Having waited over 10 minutes for no apparent reason I felt it rather rude for the unknown inbound enquiry to be prioritized. Eklo is good value, comfortable, clean and trendy and simply requires a little greater attention to customer service to be a recommended property.

Nice being close to metro line but that was about it. The room we stayed in was for two but would be better for one. Absolutely nowhere to put any bags. Tight squeeze. Had these very odd pillows so we requested to have normal ones to which they said they had run out of them (unsure what hotel runs out of pillows)? Very basic. Could have been cleaner in bathroom shower (some pink mould) and shower pressure kept changing temp and flow. Stuffy rooms with no a/c, felt like we were in a container? Window opens and looks out to street so everyone can see in, even had some other guests (a group of students) come up looking through our window. Would only stay one night IF desperate. Definitely pay more to stay in a nicer more comfortable place that’s in a nicer area of Bordeaux.

I stayed for 4 nights. The rooms were small but that’s fine as we were out for most of the time. The rooms looked tidy and clean. The only down side is the lack of storage space. Check in was quick. We had some issues with our door cards and lights, but the staff were quick to help and relocate us to a different room. Staff were very nice and friendly. I visited during early spring so didn’t have any problems with the heat but I can see how that might be an issue during summer. The location is super convenient, the bus stop is just outside the hotel and tram is few minutes away. There’s a shop and a bakery nearby. Overall, I would recommend if you are coming to visit the city and will be out exploring most of the day and want a decent place to sleep. There are some things that could improve but for the price I think it’s worth it.

Not great customer service. Rooms are very small, and very warm. Fairly clean, not much included in the room. Rate wise, cheap, but not for what you get. If just needing a place to sleep, it will do. Want something cosy, look elsewhere.

I would not call this a hotel. Rather a hostal. The ventilation in the rooms was really bad. We didn't get a fan or anything. People were sleeping with the doors opened to be able to get some air. The staff were bored and just awkward. I didn't see anyone smiling during the three nights. They did not clean the room or changed the bed or towels once during our stay.

Do yourself a favor and don't book here. The room is tiny, dark and hot! There is no air conditioning and amenities are kept to the bare minimum. You feel like you are in a construction site container. As our room faced the sunny side it heated up terribly during the day. We didn't get another fan even after asking multiple times. The service is a joke! We also couldn't leave our luggage either, as the luggage room was said to be full in the morning. I guess Eklo just wants to get their guests to book early check-in, which costs extra. Yes, you can't expect luxury for the price, but I know from experience that there are much better rooms in Bordeaux for the same money. To me, the goal of Eklo is clear: to make as much money as possible with as little effort as possible.

DO NOT GO HERE. The staff were SO RUDE. We had filled out the form they had sent prior to check in for an early check in option. When we reached the hotel after hours of traveling, they said they couldn't find the details and refused to accommodate us. We pleaded with them explaining our case and told them how exhausted we were and they only asked us to wait for 4 hours . No apologies, no empathy, nothing! Zero courtesy. Will not go back here

Stayed for four nights, one person and paid 670€!!! The room is tiny (in German we would call it Sardinenbüchse). It is super noisy. Neighbours slamming their doors and shouting long after 3 am and there is a construction site right next to the "hotel". Breakfast room was very unclean. You can barely walk around the bed. No air-conditioning, only a noisy and dusty fan. The bathroom door doesn't shut all the way from the outside. Imagine having a non closing bathroom door when you travel with someone else and just dropped a number 2. There were no handtowels and no handsoap. You had to climb into the shower for some shower gel to wash your hands. Also there is no cleaning included in the price. Absolutely ridiculous. To top it off, you have to pay an additional 5€ for luggage storage!!!! Never have I ever paid for luggage storage in a hotel, especially for that prize. Additionally the floor is constructed badly and a safety hazzard. There is a piece of metal right in the middle where everyone walks that sticks out and you can easily trip over or if wearing sandals, get bloody toes. Staff was distracted by rugby game or talking to other staff. This is a hostel accomodation for five star hotel prizes. Shame on the management. Never experienced anything like this. (I also find it suspicious that there are a lot of five star reviews here without any comments or very weird comments, or people writing a review a day ago but saying they stayed in 2019! That's four years ago! Who writes a review after four years and uploads pictures from the website?)

I went here together with my colleagues and had a great time. With three we shared a studio which was nice spacious and clean. Breakfast was amazing, service was great with english speaking staff. I would highly recommend the bigger rooms, as the other colleagues mention their two person rooms were quite small.

  • 1/5 David S. 11 months ago on Google
Possibly the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. What makes it worse is that this is not a hotel but a hostel masquerading as a hotel to charge a higher price. The room is tiny and has a hard bed with one measly pillow. There were no basics like hand soap, a glass or a hairdryer, the bathroom was also dirty We arrived after a delayed flight at 1am and we checked out by 9.30am. Please do not stay here! I would rate zero if possible.

The location of the hotel is not that great but its close to the tram (line A) wich gets you straight to the center of the city so its a plus. staff is very friendly and willing to solve even the smallest of problems. The room was really clean, i didnt manage to find a single speck of dust, we had a Kitchen with all the basic, only bad thing is the small pillow and lack of hairdrier.

  • 1/5 Mariia P. 9 months ago on Google
MOISISSURES !!! !MOULD! THe biggest problem was that there was a quite big mould stain on the ceiling in the bathroom. And when I informed the staff about it, I was told there was nothing they could do. Overall, the room was not in the best condition, there was some dust and hair. Also, in the bathroom there was only one soap on the wall next to the shower, which made it inconvenient to wash hands at the sink. On top of that the soap bottle was leaking and when I refilled the soap all of it leaked out in 2 hours.

Location: great, in quite safe area. Take bus route 10 outside St.Jean station then it will take about 15min. Get off bus them you will be 20metres away from the Hostel. Very comfortable bed. Been hostel surfing for some time now and by far they had the most comfortable bedding. I kept on missing my alarm and stayed in bed until 10min before check out time (11am). Did not want to get out of bed. Reception very kind Good clean toilet facilities Good value for a good accommodation. This place is right in between hostel & hotel Very nice cafe&deli nearby as well.

INCREDIBLE service! Being on the other side of the bridge would definitely be better. But I'm sure being on this side of the river helps keep the price down. The rooms were spartan, but very nice.

  • 2/5 Fotini C. 9 months ago on Google
The communication was poor, and made me feel uncertain about the correlation of the payment method and the payment confirmation on booking. Moreover the room key-card was being deactivated (at least six times preventing me from entering the room) and as a result I had to go downstairs to the reception, each time, to reactivate it and get access to the room. I am afraid that there was a lack of professionalism in customer service.

We are very satisfied with our stay in eklo hote. The reception was very helpful and kind. The room was decent and clean. I would recommend it!

Very friendly and understanding, I booked the wrong dates but they were kind enough and found a free room for me, the check in earlier than 15:00 was no problem. Very nice experience!

Cheap, close to the centre, comfortable and clean. I had a great experience at Eklo, and will surely book there again next time I go to Bordeaux.

For the price, location, service and green attitude it's a fair deal. City centre is easily reachable by walking or tram. Also close to the Botanical garden and Darwin centre. Breakfast gave multiple options and I was grateful for having the chance to borrow also a hairdryer and an iron. Air conditioning is missing as it's not fitting the concept of the hotel - window was completely openable and in the June evening it was enough to cool down the room before sleeping.

I had never been treated so bad by people with so low level of education, rudeness lack of professional attitude. This place shouldn't be allowed to functioning in hostellery, but the people staying in This kind of hostels travel only to party and to abuse of alcohol and other things, so for those people this must be a great place. I definitely wouldn't stay one more day. One hour was enough.

  • 2/5 CW M. 1 year ago on Google
Staff were just ok, food was nice. The bed however was the most uncomfortable thing I ever slept on. You can feel the springs if the mattress and the pillow if you could call it that was lumpy and mostly full of nothing. Will be visiting the chiropractor after these 5 days in Bordeaux as I’m in so much pain with my back and neck now. Shower smelt of urine, rest of bathroom could have been a lot cleaner. There is a new building being built next to where we were staying with two massive cranes, no mention when booking so at 7am builders started drilling and banging etc. that will go on for some months most likely. Didn’t report any of this to the staff as they were mostly busy with people waiting to check in at the times I wanted to talk to them. Definitely if you want any sort of good night sleep don’t waste your money on this place.

Modern room, quite small but very budget friendly and clean. However, There is a big construction project happening right next door and the girl who checked us in was not very hospitable. Needs friendly and attentive staff to really elevate the experience

Would not recommend. Sure it's cheap, clean, the rooms themselves are pretty nice, and there's a nice bar. But besides that most was disappointing. Firstly we asked for extra pillows and were told they don't have any... Ok.. An hotel without pillows. Also, no luggage storage! We didn't even have soap for our hands, had to take it back and forth from the shower each time. Possibly the most annoying part is that they say it's an eco or sustainable hotel.. Maybe they use less energy or water, I have no way of knowing if that's true or not, but what I can say is that food wise there is nothing sustainable or plant based. No soy/oat milk for breakfast, no vegan food, even on the dinner menu they label fish as vegetarian. The staff was not so helpful as well. Overall a frustrating experience.

What a special little place this is!! Ok the rooms are basic and on the small side, but I wasn't there stay in the room!! Comfy bed, extremely clean too!! Bathroom perfect lovely shower and love the environmental side. The bar is AMAZING so comfortable and relaxing. Always something happening. Breakfast was perfect and value for money. We will be back!!! Thank you Eklo!!! ❤️❤️

Not great customer service. Rooms are very small, and very warm. Fairly clean, not much included in the room. Beware, if you're a light sleeper, that as of August 22 there was a large construction site right next to the hotel. It is not the hotel's fault of course but I think it is fair to point it out. It gets loud at 7am as the construction begins. However, the window insulates noise pretty well, so you won't hear it if the wondow is closed. Overall a very nice hotel, clean, modern, eco. Friendly service. What is inconvenient is that the only window in a private room is facing hallway meaning if you keep your shutters open people who pass by can peek in. A fan is provided if you want to keep your window closed which is great. Unfortunately the drain in the wash basin did not work properly. You can get a lovely glass of wine at the bar that belongs to the hotel. The breakfast also looked good but we didn't have one.

I arrived very late and the kitchen was unavailable, so I couldn't had dinner. I also couldn't had breakfast because there was an event that day. There was no advice anywhere. It was the last day of a 3 weeks trip and what should be a relaxing day became a very frustrating situation. The staff couldn't keep my luggage for a couple of hours, and the only options they give me were to go all the way to the airport to left it somewhere there, or book another night because they can't help me and store my things for 3/4 hours. The frontdesk girl just do what their superiors told her, so I dont blame her, but the woman in charge of the bedding was really prepotent, didn't try to help and got offended when I ask her name so I could complain later, saying that why should she tell me her name if she wasn't the person in charge at all. As I told them, I did not get what I pay for, and I don't get what they offer when I book my stay. I stayed there when I start my trip and everything was good, so at my return to Bordeaux, I didn't even look somewhere else. But if they had people know via their website/social media that their kitchen and luggage storing was unavailable, then I would search for somewhere that adjust to my necessities. It was really frustrating, because I lost time to do my last shopping and sightseeing in the city. Also, since it was my last day I couldn't afford unexpected expenses. (Aka buying meals and pay for a locker somewhere). So what should be a relaxing nice day became a nightmare. The "we don't have space, go book another night so you can left your luggage for a couple more hours in the dorm" or the go to the airport and lost 2 of your 3 hours left in the city, was specially hurting. Really, really disappointed, specially for the unhelpfulness and uncare of the people managing the hotel

The room was good with a nice bathroom. The doors of the neighbour rooms close very loudly. Please install a safe room for storing the luggage while waiting for the room. Next to a sofa where two people where sleeping is not an option for bags with laptops. And it would be nice if the bar would be open until midnight as promised and not closed 10 minutes earlier when we arrived longing for a drink.

Good location near tram station, outdoor area with a bar selling hot dogs and room comfortable. The staff are mostly nice. Blonde girl at the bar and the guy at front desk were great. Lady who stays in the morning (from 3 to 5 October) was a little impatient and not as helpful as the others. Room was clean, but not sound proof as described. Bed was comfortable, pillows not really (for people who don't like too soft ones). Overall, I recommend and would stay again.

  • 1/5 Nigel W. 2 years ago on Google
To start with parking is a disabled bay within miles of the place. Really useful! The room is appalling, good job we didn't bring a cat cos there's certainly no room to swing it. Nowhere for you clothes should you dare to take them off. The TV has no sound but fortunately we can hear every word spoken next door! It's without a doubt worst place I've ever stayed in.

The best hostel stay, safe, well located, well priced, helpful staff. Rooms are small but very clean and new. Expect to meet people and socialize at the restaurant/bar downstairs. They have events on the weekends at their beautiful outdoor space

  • 4/5 Alocén 2 years ago on Google
Great an economic hotel to stay as a couple with private room. The staff are friendly and outside there is a chill out space with coaches to take some drinks while it is playing electronic music. In addition, you can leave your luggage at the hotel and forget about it until do the check in/out, so that is perfect. Totally recommended.
