My wife and I visited the amazing green city Vilnius in November this year and we were charmed by the Orthodox Cathedral of the Theotokos, a beautiful and historic church near the Uzupis area. This church is one of the oldest and most important Orthodox churches in Lithuania, dating back to 1346 when it was built by Kievan architects for the Grand Duke Algirdas and his second wife Uliana of Tver. The church has a unique architecture and design, combining Gothic, Baroque and Byzantine elements. The church was the mother church of the Ruthenian Orthodox Church and the Ruthenian Uniate Church until 1795, when it was destroyed by the Russian army. It was rebuilt and restored to its original glory in 1998. The church is very peaceful and serene in November, with a magical atmosphere. We enjoyed admiring the impressive dome and bell tower outside.
