Beautiful monument dedicated to the only king of Lithuania - Mindaugas. Created by sculptor Regimantas Medvikis, this 3,5 m tall artwork is full of symbols. Mindaugas is holding the regal symbols - a sceptre and an globus cruciger (cross-bearing orb), which are Christian symbols of authority and power. The circular pedestal is divided into 12 equal parts and symbolises the sun calendar; both Christian and Pagan holidays are marked on it. That is also a symbol - the duality of Mindaugas personality, as he took up Christianity just for power reasons, to give Lithuania some peace from crusaders, but never really denounced paganism. The monument was opened on July 6, 2003, when Lithuania celebrated 750th anniversary of the coronation of King Mindaugas. July 6 now is a national/bank holiday. The monument not only is beautiful itself, but it sits in the middle of a beautiful park, in front of the National Museum of Lithuania. Plus, you can see the Tower of Gediminas rising above from a certain angle. Kids seem to love playing on the monument. ;) nice place to relax from walking around!

(Translated by Google) The monument is definitely worth a visit! It stands majestically in the heart of the city, next to other important state objects. There could be more such beautiful monuments 🙂 Children especially like to hang out here, play, run around Mindaugas, and when you remember that our only King was here - you hear "wow! 😯". (Original) Paminklas tikrai vertas būti aplankytas! Didingai stovi miesto širdyje, šalia kitų svarbių valstybės objektų. Tokių gražių paminklų galėtų būti ir daugiau 🙂 Vaikams ypač patinka pabūti čia, pažaisti, palakstyti aplink Mindaugą, o kai primeni, kad čia buvo mūsų vienintelis Karalius - pasigirsta "vauuuuu! 😯".
