Stayed there for a night and couldn’t wait to get out. It literally felt like it was a glorified prison cell. We only booked it because it was so close to the Oceanfront but was not worth it at all. The door on my lock was not even working and I had to go to the front desk each time and ask them to open the door. Would not recommend. Now I realized that I would much rather pay $30 more and get a 3 star hotel. Some of their staff were friendly, the pool was great and the location to oceanfront is only reason I stayed there. 0/5 would not recommend.

If i could give half a star i would, i normally don’t post bad reviews but other people wrote how they loved it there and that’s why i chose it but after my experience, i don’t want anyone to be disappointed like i was. So we get there, was told we could check in at 11, couldn’t check in till 4, ok whatever i understand things happen, rooms needed to be cleaned. Pool was gross but it was the first day so i figured they would probably clean it later (they did) then we got to our room and there was old food in the fridge, stains all over the curtains, curtains that don’t block out the bright lights from hallways, the ac unit was falling apart, the bathroom light flickered every time you turned it on, the shower had no pressure, the floors were dirty to the point where i didn’t take my shoes off when i was in there, and the smoke detector was missing. When my friend went to complain, the dude was so mean and dismissive we no longer wanted to even speak to him. Perhaps we just got a bad room but it wasn’t my favorite experience and i wish i had known about this before we booked the hotel.

Our stay @ Alamar Hotel @ beach was a very disappointed stay. Had a kitchnette but no dishes, no pots or pans. Room was dirty, chairs had mole and stains, shower curtain had mole on it and towels that was supposed to be white was dengy we went & bought more towels. Door had a large hole at the bottom and had tape on the bottom of the door. The location of the hotel was near the beach one of the plus. Never again will I stay here. Very disappointed for the price I paid.

DO NOT STAY HERE. This place is filthy. Just absolute filth. I could hardly breathe due to the mold I slept beneath. Walls, shower curtain, bathroom... mold was absolutely everywhere. Not only that, but grime covered all vents, the entire floor, the coffee pot; everything was disgusting. They definitely do not clean this place and it's not worth any price.

Place was cheap but you get what you pay for. Room cleaning staff were drinking beer while cleaning rooms, beds were hard, other guest were loud and screaming outside, neighbors in the adjoining room came back drunk trying to get into my room through several times, could hear there conversations like they were in the room with us. They were obnoxious breaking glass and yelling at each other. Could smell cigarette smoke in a non smoking room and the pool was nasty with all kinds of small trash and litter in it. Could have just been a bad day for the hotel but im thinking its their regularly scheduled program.

I will start off by saying that customer service was never an issue during our stay, even though that consisted of one night. Immediately entering the room it had a strong odor of cigarettes that never ceased in smell. The room floor and walls were dirty. The bathroom was disgusting and there was NO hot water!! The was cloths and towels had stains. There was a used liquor bottle under the top corner of the mattress which strongly indicated that the sheets were never changed. And to top it all off MOLD! There was mold running along the top of the wall.

The photographer for this hotel must have done some CGI work. The rooms were nothing like the photos. The towels were so disgusting we had to go buy towels from Walmart. The shower curtain was molded and our hot water tap in the bathroom sink wasn't even turned on bc it leaked. This place is more like an efficiency than a hotel and it's definitely NO RESORT. There are people living in this place that are rude and inconsiderate. The dogs barked ALL NIGHT long and it was hard to get any decent sleep. The parking is extremely limited and you have to park in a very sketchy overflow lot around the side of the house next door, and at night the lot was usually full of homeless people and people living in cars. You could not literally pay me to ever stay here again.

Negative stars if I could... We advised the hotel we'd bring our senior dog, which they said was fine. Upon check-in, we were charged DOUBLE the pet fee since she was a few pounds over the weight limit (which was not stated online, only by a piece of paper on the wall at the front desk). We had no choice but to pay the double pet fee since there were no other hotels available, accepting pets in the area. This is a dishonest and arbitrary practice, especially since the dog's weight has no bearing on whatever "mess" it will make. The hotel was grossly overpriced when we stayed ($455 for 2 nights in a room full of black mold and holes in the wall), and I can see it's now $35/night. It is not "recently renovated," as they claim on the sign out front.

We tried to stay here last weekend, but couldn’t bring ourselves to even sit down on anything the room was so filthy. Not only were the sheets stained, there were thick crusts of something paste-like on them, so they obviously hadn’t even been washed. The towels were gray, crunchy, and wadded up in a bunch instead of folded. There was a streak of something thick and brown on the wall- either poop or chocolate, but we did not attempt to discover which. When we went back to the front desk to say we were not ok with the room, the family that operates the hotel hid in the back. We could hear them talking, so I know they heard me calling. And they ignored the phone while Expedia called them too. We gave up and left within 15 minutes of checking in. Didn’t touch anything in the room, but they refused to refund the money. First time we’ve ever found a hotel unacceptable. Do not book here!!!

If I can give this place a negative rating I would. This place is horrible and it does not represent what it's shown in the pictures. The rooms are falling apart. Drawers on the dresser were broken, phone didn't work, window was broken and replaced with plastic and tape, door chewed on and it smelled of tobacco. Smoke detector had been illegally removed. The room was dirty. Used soap was found on the floor in the bathroom and towels were so old and thin. House keeping was completely nonexistent. People hanged around the hotel smoking and doing other illegal things. The fountain was dirty and not operational. Parking was so small and next to a private house. The people who stayed there were so noisy and had no consideration for their neighbors. The staff were rude and liars. TJ offered me a refund for one night for my "inconveniences" and when expedia called to confirm he refused the refund. When I called minutes later to speak to him, he hanged up on me. They are so unprofessional and they shouldn't be in business. Don't book here. I never review but this place really is not great and it's a waste of money and unsanitary.

This location is filthy inside and out. Walked into a non smoking room and within 10 minutes was having reactions to how smoky it was inside. There were blood drops on the sheets, food on the floor, greasy hand prints on surfaces, and wooden blocks trying to hold up the outdated ac. The pool outside was green. After leaving having been there less than 15 minutes and booking a different location, the booking refund was refused, bc the manager said we inconvenienced him for booking and leaving.

Staff was nice. Check in was easy. Parking tight. Location good. Pet friendly. Extra $25 for chihuahua bit pricey. Room semi clean black mold on bath room walls. Lots of noise during the night mostly due to no carpeting. People walking by echo through the room .... beds were extremely hard. Very small hotel and people checking in at 3am make a lot of noise

Horrid experience. Says oceanfront but nowhere near the oceanfront. Woke up with bites everywhere, unsanitary kitchen and bathroom. Locks on doors weren't working and it didn't feel safe at all.

This is the worst hotel you could stay at. The sheets were stained. Had flying insects all in the room. If you are looking for a cheap hotel to bring your side chick that’s the place. You will definitely come out with some type of disease. Whatever you do don’t stay there. Place is better to be knocked down and never rebuilt. Health department needs to go out there and shut them down.

Do not book here!!! First room has dirty floor, 2 working lights, broken cabinets, dirty dishwasher, dirty sheets, rusty windows and doors, molded AC, but the thing that draw the line was pizza sauce on the bed sheets. So we got another room, this room has clean sheets but pillow cases are dirty and has cigarette burnt. Dirty towels with stains on so I used my beach towel. One bar soap in the whole room, so if you didn't pack your shampoo and such, good luck. Dirty floor, dirty dishwasher, dirty pool, dirty water fountain. I thought motel 6 is the worse, but this one topped it. Owner's wife is the house keeper and she took out 2 towels from a room that she was cleaning and the room was done. I didn't see any housekeeping staff onsite.

Absolutely horrible. The room was filthy. It stunk of cigarettes and everything I touched was grimy. The curtains had a large stain on them and didn't close. The TV didn't work and someone had to come up and look at it. The towels in the bathroom were white but had mysterious brown stains on them. The pool was closed but had a half a blue tarp on it that showed green slimy water. The posted price on line for that day was $73.00. I paid 110.50. When I asked about the cost he said the price went up. If I could give them a 0 star I would. Save yourself the money!!

I almost don't wanna tell you about this hidden gem! Alamar is a nice lil cozy nook of a resort. The rooms are a bit outdated, but I've been told that they are planned to soon be renovated. I will say that it is very 'homely'. By that, I mean this is a great place for people to settle down for a while during these difficult times. All of that to say, although a 'resort', there's some wear and tear from past residents' extended stays. If you can get past that, then you're set. Of course, the location is perfect. You're a block away from the boardwalk, no problem. The staff are all wonderful! Melissa (front desk) has such a wonderful personality and George (housekeeping) is always around to give a helping hand. And the rest of the staff is always so welcoming. Just as long as you're not bout no riff-raff, you'll love them. Lol Alamar may be small but it has a lot of heart. If you're looking for fancy, perfectly clean, glitz, and glamor, like I've seen many reviews complain about, don't go there. But if you want comfort, fair pricing, a great location, and amazing staff, THIS is your spot!

I can’t believe this establishment is legal and open. The place was filthy and reeked of cigarettes. Multiple roaches. Looked like they didn’t even clean and just set out a soap and made the bed. I instantly felt unsafe when I drove up due to bums bombarding me and my husband to ‘go take a ride w them in their uhaul truck’. On top of all of that the door didn’t even lock so I had to call out of work last minute and hope no one tried to come in. Denied me a refund for the money I prepaid for the following night but for our safety we left anyways and went somewhere else.

This hotel could be way more than it is if they would spend time keeping it up. Mold on the walls, no shampoo, no cups, no ice, trash hanging around the pool and the pool was not something that looked very welcoming. They charged us an extra $25 for our dog which is cleaner than the room was.

This was easily the worst hotel I've ever stepped foot into. The pictures they provide are misleading and not true to the hotel itself. Don't let the great location fool you, the rooms are uninhabitable! Upon stepping foot into the room the smell of smoke was unbearable. The TV was on and there was no remote to turn off. Buttons on the TV did not work so we had to unplug to turn it off. The bathroom door handle was falling apart and the door would not close. The bedroom window would not stay open and the bed looked like a rollaway. All of the chairs at the "dining" table were mismatched and some were broken. The entire kitchen appeared to come from the 80s and was really dirty. We walked out and turned the key in, no way in hell we would sleep in this place. By god avoid this place at all costs. It's terrible.

This place obviously has lower prices, so it's not like you're staying at the fancy Marriott or anything like that. HOWEVER my fiance and I loved it here!! They remodeled in 2018 and they take great care of their rooms. Staff is super friendly and helpful. It's close to the beach. The pool is super clean and not crowded. Only down fall is there isn't an elevator. And I'm handicapped, but the owner was kind enough to put us on the first floor. Definitely will be staying here next year!!! Thanks Alamar for a wonderful place to stay!!

I came here to visit a friend . The hotel was in a pretty central location down at the oceanfront. Although thr outside of the hotel wA rather scary in appearance, the building looked run down and there was people hanging around outside and sitting in the stairways. They definitely appeared to be up to no good. Now once I was in the actual room which the door were all outside as well which I didn't care for that either. It just doesn't feel as safe to me as inside hotel rooms.. Also gives it more of a motel type of feel instead of hotel. But anyways once I actually walked in the room. I have to say I was very impressed. It was like a mini apartment with a separate bedroom and living room. There even was a large dining room table in the room.. it appeared to be fairly clean as well. I can't speak on any of the service here as I didn't interact with the staff at all so I don't know if they were friendly or how Accommodating they were for my friend. So overall I can't say that I personally would ever reserve a room at this hotel but if u can get past the outer appearance and the lollygagging outside then u should be good to go. I just wouldn't come out of my room is my suggestion.

Stayed their few years ago, all I can say as you can tell its under new management. THERE ARE ROACHES DEAD AND ALIVE, it must be a pet friendly motel cause the room smelled of one, debry all over and the ironing board had mold on it. A GREAT PLACE TO STAY.........AWAY FROM Oh the TV was good

I understand that you get what you pay for but this was not just a cheap hotel. Our door was open and our room unlocked for hours before we had arrived and there were dirty towels in the room. There was no hand soap to wash our hands and gum stuck to the floor. The sheets were dirty and the tables were sticky. There is clearly no standard of cleanliness here and I wouldn't stay here again even if you paid me.

Great fixtures. Looks like they tried to update. But it's falling into disrepair. Water damage hole in the wall with mold. Seems like a lot of drug culture going on with the people who live there. Maybe it's different in the summer.

I ended up getting stuck another day in VA Beach because my truck broke down and the shop didn't finish in time. I needed a nearby hotel I could walk to/from the shop and this was the closest. I went in with no expectations because I presumed going solo & based on cost I was going to get the equivalent of a studio apartment, and that's what I got. TV, fridge, microwave, hair dryer, shower with hot water, king bed with 3 pillows (3 clean pillowcases, sheets were clean), clean but really average sized/feel towels, pretty much all I needed. I came in early in the morning since I had to check out from the other place I was in and the guy at the front desk was accommodating and held onto my bags until I came back at check-in time. When I came back from getting dinner on the boardwalk (at night), I noticed every room has a bright light in front of it (looked like a stadium walking up to it), and there are cameras everywhere. I didn't see any reason to think something bad was going to happen. There's a 'flip it over the bolt on the door' additional lock on the door which was good enough for me. For the cost and the crunch I was in, this place worked out great. I can understand why some people have such a negative reaction, it's definitely an old hotel that they're constantly fixing/trying to update things on (in a very hot/humid place), but it's a 2-star hotel and there are plenty of other ones pretty much anywhere in VA Beach.

Needed a place to crash and this was convenient. It could of been cleaned a lot better. when I checked the bathroom I noticed someone else’s hair on the towel. the shower did not have hot water. the rooms could use an update. Great location.

I was looking for a hotel room that was pet friendly, close to the beach, and had some sort of kitchen to save money from eating out constantly during the week with a family of five. Came across this place and even though the reviews weren't the best we gave it a try. The owner was beyond helpful with any issues we had and his family was nice. The stovetop wasn't working and he had a repairman there to fix it the next morning, and let us borrow his personal portable stovetop for our stay. The kids loved the pool, it appeared clean and others were swimming throughout our stay. The rooms could use some love though. The kitchen sink was leaking, the bathroom had no fan so when you showered the steam soaked everything, parts of the walls were in rough shape, and the pull out bed the kids slept on was broken but usable. The floor is laminate which was nice coming from the beach so sandy. Also the hotel IS PET friendly, however what they do not tell you is you have to pay an extra 25-50 (dog $ (dog>25lb) EACH night you are there. So for a cheaper hotel you're essentially paying a lot more if you travel with a dog. I had a service dog which was free to stay. Overall it was a decent experience and we had a great time.

Do not book here from others is correct. In the area last minute for work and went through Booking. Should have spent slightly extra for another hotel. Do everyone a favor and remove "resort" out of everything. First, no hot water whatsoever. Run-down is not the word. Depressing is more like it. If I could have gotten a refund from Booking, I would have left upon it immediately upon checkin. Despite being listed non-smoking, it reaked of smoke. Floor dirty. Towels dirty. Everything was dirty and rickety/broken. Left depressed.
