(Translated by Google) But he never called. Everyone who saw him, he amazes with its gigantic size. The Tsar Bell in Moscow is one of the sights of the Moscow Kremlin. And the Moscow Kremlin is one of the main business cards of the capital. There was such "fun" among the rulers of Russia, in those ancient times, to compete behind the scenes in who will make the biggest bell. It should surpass the others in weight, size and sound power. Under Ivan III, a bell weighing 8 tons was cast. Under his son Vasily 3 - already 16 tons. This one is the winner of the tacit royal rivalry. It is the largest metal bell in the world. Its dimensions are simply amazing: height - 6.24 meters; diameter - 6.6 meters; weight - 202 tons. It is located on the Ivanovskaya Square of the Kremlin and is a monument of the foundry art of the 18th century. The work of the Motorins' masters went down in world history. During their lives, they cast a dozen cannons, and the bells of their work rang in Moscow, and in St. Petersburg, and in Kiev and other cities of Russia. This "giant" has a difficult "biography". It is fraught with many difficulties, setbacks and even disasters. 1st Tsar Bell in Moscow, weighing about 40 tons, was cast back in 1600. During a fire in the middle of the 17th century, he fell from the bell tower and crashed. Smelted a new "giant" more powerful and massive. It weighed 130 tons. Celebrating Christmas overdone call and broke it. The newly cast Tsar Bell was heavier up to 160 tons. The handiwork of the master A. Grigoriev. To attack again - fire, fall and again the bell shattered. And so in 1730, by order of the Empress Anna Ioannovna, they began to develop a project for a new bell. In a pit 10 meters deep, the walls were reinforced with bricks and oak. The bottom was laid out with oak piles, on which an iron grating was laid. 4 melting furnaces were also installed here. Copper was added to the metal from the old bell. The senior Motorin - Ivan started the work. It didn't work out right away - again a fire (now during work). And soon the master died. The banner of the "great construction" was picked up by his son Mikhail. According to the chroniclers, he cast the bell in an hour and 12 minutes. Hammered work began (it was going on for almost 2 years) and another fire began. People began to extinguish the burning wooden boards and logs above the pit in which the bell was located. Since it could melt from the high temperature, they began to pour water on it. From a sharp temperature drop, the hot metal began to crack and a piece weighing 11.5 tons split off from it. This shard will now be taller than many tall men. For almost 100 years, "Kolokolische" lay in the casting pit (from 1735 to 1836). An architect of French origin (he lived and worked in Russia for 40 years), O. Montferrand was entrusted with raising the bell from the pit and installing it on the pedestal that he created. He is also known for his creations in St. Petersburg: St. Isaac's Cathedral, Alexander a column and a monument to Nicholas 1. In addition to the pedestal and lifting works, he cast a copper orb with a gilded cross at the top of the Tsar Bell. By the way, initially offered to do this work to another Frenchman. He refused - stating that it was impossible to do so. Ornamental decorations also look beautiful. On the bas-reliefs that adorn Tsar Bell, can be seen Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, under whom the previous example of the bell was created and the Empress Anna Ioannovna, which was the initiator of this breathtaking masterpiece. On the bell you can also see religious motives - images of Jesus Christ, the Virgin, John Forerunner, the Apostle Peter, Anna the Prophetess. Besides the unique dimensions, the bell remarkable for the beauty of its form. By the way, about 200 people worked on the creation of this splendor: blacksmiths, locksmiths, joiners, sculptors, carvers ... The "giant" has many interesting facts in his biography. "Fought" during the Second World War - the bell housed the communications center of the Kremlin regiment. To prevent the "giant" from shining and not being seen by fascist planes, it was specially painted. 72 kg were added to the melt during manufacture. gold and 525 kg. silver (to improve the sound). The Tsar Bell never had a tongue. The one next to it was taken from another bell.

There are many interesting things to see within the Walls of the Kremlin in central Moscow. One of these is the Tsar Bell, situated in front of the Ivan the Great Bell Tower. This is believed to be the largest bell in the world at over 200,000kg in weight. The bell was made between 1733-35. It stands at 6.14 metres tall and measures 6.6 in diameter. You can appreciate the scale and size of the Tsar Bell by standing near it for photos and while viewing it from 40+ metres away where you can see how much larger it is than the people posing for pictures in front of this monument. Note, the broken section of the bell. It rests beside the bell and is equally impressive in size. Note: Another similar large scale item is the enormous Tsar Cannon located not far away on the other side of the Ivan the Great Bell Tower. It is worth having a look-see as well.

Don't miss visiting and taking photos of the largest Bell in the world! Weighting almost 200 tonnes! 🤪 It actually never rang because it was incredibly difficult (of course...) to lift it. The cracked piece was a result of the cold water on it, after it was heated by a fire in the place where it was kept. The fire men head to put out the fire...

This impressive Tsar Bell (Russian: Царь-колокол / Zar-kolokol) was cast in 1735 and is considered one of the largest and heaviest bells in the world that have survived to this day. It has never been rung and has stood on Ivan Square in the Moscow Kremlin since 1836. The bronze bell is 6.14 meters high, up to 61 cm thick with a diameter in the lower part of 6.60 meters. Weight: 201,924 kg. When the bell was first lifted from the casting pit to the surface of the earth, a piece weighing around 11,500 kg broke out of the bell

The Tsar Bell is located between the Ivan the Great Bell Tower and the Kremlin Wall. Made of bronze, the bell cracked during a fire after being completed and has never been rung. The bell is the largest bell in the world, weighing 201,924 kilograms (445,166 lb),[2] with a height of 6.14 metres (20.1 ft) and diameter of 6.6 metres (22 ft), and thickness of up to 61 centimetres (24 in). The bell is decorated with relief images of baroque angels, plants, oval medallions with saints, and nearly life-size images of Empress Anna and Tsar Alexey, who was reigning at the time the previous Tsar Bell was cast.

Acknowledged as the heaviest bell known to exist in the world today. The huge Russian Tsar Bell (also known as the Tsar Kolokol III) weighs 216-tons. Currently on display on the grounds of the Moscow Kremlin. The bell was damaged during a fire in 1737, while being cast resulting in a large piece to break off.

Big bell is all you can say. Even if you are 2 meters tall, you somehow feel very small. I was told that this bell fell to the ground and they gave up trying to move it again. Since then it has been lying or standing on the floor and can only be admired. You couldn't even hear their sound coming from a tower. There is a lot to learn historically here.

The Tsar Bell was cast in 1733-1735 on the order of Empress Anna Ioannovna by hereditary Muscovy casters and bell founders Ivan Motorin and his son Mikhail. Up till now, the Tsar Bell is considered to be the biggest one in the world. It weighs about 202 ton, it is 6.14 meter high and its diameter is 6.6 meters. The history of making the bell is full of many difficulties, failures, and disasters. The bell was formed and cast in a special moulding pit at Ivanovskaya Square to the east of the 'Ivan the Great' Bell Tower. Woodcarvers from St. Petersburg—Vasily Kobelev, Pyotr Galkin, Pyotr Kokhtev, Pyotr Serebryakov and the moulding master Pyotr Luokovnikov were commissioned to make the relief ornamentation. The name of the sculptor was discovered not long ago—it was Feodor Medvedev who got educated in Italy. Preparatory works took almost two years. At the end of 1734, the masters began the heating of metal in specially built furnaces, but soon the leakage was found out. At the same time, the fire destroyed wooden lifting constructions above the bell. The work recommenced, but when Ivan Motorin died in August 1735, his son was entrusted with the work. The Tsar Bell was finally cast in November 1735. However, it still remained in the moulding pit. In May 1737, a terrible fire known as Troitsky broke out and spread to the Kremlin buildings. During the fire extinguishing, cold water fell on the bell itself. Temperature difference caused its crack, and a huge piece of 11.5 ton broke off. Splintered fragment of the Tsar BellTsar Bell. Relief decorInside the Tsar Bell`s basement The repeated attempts to lift up the bell were a failure. In 1836, the work was commissioned to French architect from St. Peterburg Auguste Montferrant, who designed the lifting construction and an octal sandstone pedestal for the Tsar Bell. The first lifting was a failure; then the device was improved and the Tsar Bell was pulled out from the moulding pit at last. It remains there up till now as an example of the art of casting. The Tsar Bell is decorated with bas-relief portraits of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich and Empress Anna Ioannovna; it is adorned both with floral ornament in the baroque style and images of saints, angels and inscriptions telling the story of the bell.

(Translated by Google) Tsar-bell is a large bronze bell cast by Russian masters Ivan and Mikhail Matorin in 1733-1735 at the Cannon Court by order of Empress Anna Ivanovna. Monument of Moscow foundry art of the XVIII century. Never used for its intended purpose. Height with ears - 6.14 m; Diameter - 6.6 m; Weight - 160 tons (10,000 pounds). The bell was cast in Moscow, November 25, 1735, after a year and a half of preparatory work. The smelting of the metal lasted 36 hours, and the casting took only 1 hour and 12 minutes. After the bell cooled down, the waiting work began, but during the Trinity fire in May 1737, the surrounding wooden structures caught fire. Water got on the hot bell, and a large piece weighing 11.5 tons (700 poods) broke off from it. Due to this shortcoming, the bell was left in the foundry pit, where it lay for about 100 years. In 1836, the Tsar Bell was lifted from a foundry pit and installed in the Moscow Kremlin on a pedestal designed by Auguste Montferrand. Bronze ornaments, portraits and inscriptions were created by V. Kobelev, P. Galkin, P. Kokhtev, P. Serebryakov and P. Lukovnikov.

In the first half of the 19th century, it was lifted and installed in the Moscow Kremlin near the bell tower of Ivan the Great. (Original)
