In 1981, a monument to the Spanish writer Cervantes was erected in Friendship Park as part of the cultural program “Days of Madrid in Moscow” and “Days of Moscow in Spain”. In honor of this, our countries exchanged copies of sculptures of famous national writers. This is how we got a copy of the monument to Cervantes from Plaza de las Cortes. His sword was stolen several times, but now he stands without it.

The monument is really beautiful. It is very sad that vandals steal Cervantes’ sword from time to time.
