What an amazing experience we had for our two night stay. We had on-site parking which was a huge help, we were greeted with a glass of fizz and then checked into our room. The room was very modern and you could tell it was of high quality, no expense had been spared, even air con in the room. Bed was super comfy and no light through the very think expensive beautiful curtains. Food was on point. We never eat in the same place twice but we chose to eat there on both nights as the food was of such quality and a great choice. Nothing was any trouble to accommodate and the staff were not only professional but so polite and fun. Wine menu was extensive and cocktails were fab and a great price. Breakfast was not only superbly cooked but all locally sourced. I cannot recommend the funky monk for giving us a wonderful 2 night stay, at such a competitive price. We were so close to the tube for the city as well as on the high street for shopping. This hotel needs to be rated 5stars for so many reasons and we will be staying again in the very near future. Thank you for making us feel so welcome and we look forward to seeing all of your faces again soon. Not only do we feel refreshed and relaxed but we have also found a little bolt hole we can trust and enjoy x

We have discovered a new home from home. The establishment has been refurbished beautifully, the interior is beautiful and exceptionally clean. The staff and managers were fantastic and we had a marvellous stay. Will definitely return.

Great selections of drinks, coffee and excellent hot chocolate!! Tempted to try the oysters (Yum 😋!) so definitely coming again to have a proper full meal. Thank you to the guys who prepared the oysters in the kitchen! Would recommend to anyone to come, even for drinks, as there’s ample seating in the patio/terrace outside too. The staff are amazing, polite and extremely welcoming as well as always happy. Thank you to Mia, Bledi, Jay! Looking forward to seeing you all again!!

The building has so much history and has been looked after incredibly well. The rooms are fantastic and the location is great. What really makes this place special is the staff. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Nothing is to much trouble. They have time to laugh and joke with guests and make them feel really valued. My wife and I loved staying here much more than the commercial hotels. Will definitely stay again when back in Epping.

We stayed in a gorgeous room at the funky monk for our wedding night. The room is beautifully designed and decorated amazingly for us! Bed was very comfortable! Staff were lovely and so was breakfast! 100% recommend this luxurious hotel Thank you so much x

Just went for food and drinks - The entertainment was great, the decor, service and food very good. Highly recommend the sharing platters! Would definitely take people here again.

Had a lovely time during our visit to London! The staff was really kind and especially the owner, Aurel Manayer, who had been really helpful in guiding us.100% recommend! Make sure to also attend the magic shows - the magician left us in awe.

Stayed here for two nights in the hotel. Didn't drink here. Had no clue it was a late loud bar under the hotel so you need to know that. Hotel wise the decor is stunning. However the bed is too hard and the pillows are too soft. Each to their own. Great coffee. No hand soap. The miniatures were taken away in the clean up after the first night so had nothing for the second morning including the two hair towels which was very annoying. The building is very old so be unsettling for some as it's very wonky in the hallway and I'm sure our bedroom fall wasn't level. It's full of character though. The second night on the Sunday had karaoke or a live singer so again the sound did travel and something to bear in mind. It did have Aircon. The bathroom is all black so can't creep in at night as it is too dark.

The food was excellent. Monkfish bites, king prawn squid ink pasta, miso cod and battered cod were all good. V pleasant helpful staff. Shame they don't stock an American pale ale beer for my hubby (only lager)

£375 to listen to bad music being played really loudly while savouring the slight aroma of raw sewage. The next day they lay out a “breakfast” of stale bread, really dodgy looking salmon and bad coffee. The staff you meet are lovely, but the management know you do not have a choice if you want to stay in Epping town, so they over charge you, pump up the music and serve you leftovers. I complained, got told l would receive a call back. Never did, when l called again l was offered a free nights stay…why would anyone want to replicate the above experience. If you have to visit Epping, stay out of town!

Had Sunday lunch here.waited 20mins for a menu was not offered any drinks or water. We finally ordered the portions were so small my 4 yr old grandson could eat more. No gravy on the plate had to ask waited again waitress forgot. Carrots were so tiny was told they were heritage carrots terrible. My friend couldn’t eat her dinner the potatoes were hard . A terrible experience and was really expensive it’s not about the money it’s the quality and service . Manager wasn’t really bothered by our complaints and offered us a bottle of wine . Will not be returning.

It was ok. Service was good, The food isnt bad at all but nothing special. The main thing for us is the music was so loud during dinner we couldn’t hear ourselves speak, the staff couldn’t hear us ordering at times either when the singer was on. We didn’t mind at all when the 21:00 singer came on and she was getting the party started but it would have been nice to not have the 19:00 singer blaring out through the speakers , it’s not the biggest room and when i say you can’t hear yourselves speak you really can’t. It’s not what i would want thinking i’m going for a nice meal, but if you go with the mindset that it’s more of a party than a nice restraunt you would be fine. We had fun dancing in the bar , if the music was a little quieter during the dinner service it has potential to be great.
