Peaceful. A place you find by accident. Can't even STOP a car within a mile, let alone park. Go anyway--it's that good. The monument & the poet are special. Great bike destination. Poetry & shade.

The Khalil Gibran Memorial is one of the most obscure memorials in Washington, D.C., but one that's worth a visit if you're nearby. It's near the Observatory across the street from the U.K. Embassy and right next to the Embassy of South Africa. The memorial itself is small, but mighty. As you cross a small stone bridge, you read about this Lebanese- American writer/poet. As you wind around the memorial, you read more quotes by him until you get to the center with benches and more quotes. If you're a fan of Gibran, this is a must-visit. If you're in the area, it's a very peaceful and inspiring place to sit, reflect, and journal.

I parked on 30th St NW and took the Normanstone trail over the hill to Mass ave and walked the short distance to the memorial. Beautiful yet small memorial of a timeless poet. Though traffic can be loud near sunset, it's the best time to visit as the memorial is oriented west. You can also see the sun set over the British embassy. Restoring the water features would make this little spot absolutely magical.

One of DC's hidden gems. If you enjoy Gibran's books, this is an excellent place to come and meditate over their lessons. Also a great place to stop for a rest if you are on a run past all of the embassies and the Naval Observatory.

Nice little monument for an Arab poet which I didn’t expect to find in DC!

Let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together, yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow. Gibran Khalil Gibran, The Prophet

Jibran’s memorial is surrounded by beautiful flowers, with quotes carved into the seats and wall as you loop around the circle. Very profound and thought provoking quotes. Nice, small, quiet place to sit and reflect. If you’re a person of depth, you’ll appreciate it. Note: Must make a visit before sunset. There are no lights surrounding the memorial.

A really well done little memorial area and garden. Right off Mass, so not very peaceful, but the trees make it more secluded.

Lovely little memorial. Just be aware it isn't a big park; no parking, bathrooms, or water fountains.

Serene spot to appreciate the work of an outstanding poet. Not the easiest spot to get to, but worth it to sit and meditate on his quotes.
