Madhuwa entrance

Tourist attraction

👍 This is the entrance to Madhuwa where the small bridge spanning across the river starts. The bridge is in bit of a bad shape but it could still carry people and bikes. There is a boat service (Palitha Boat Service) starting from there which offers tours around Madhu river. Parking space for vehicles... People often mention bridge,

This is the entrance to Madhuwa where the small bridge spanning across the river starts. The bridge is in bit of a bad shape but it could still carry people and bikes. There is a boat service (Palitha Boat Service) starting from there which offers tours around Madhu river. Parking space for vehicles are available and the small road leading to this places from the main road is carpeted so any type of vehicle could easily reach it. The walk on the bridge is really nice and you could go through the mangrove forest and reach the old temple in the Madhuwa where the chief incubant is very friendly.

Brige is extremely unsafe with motor cyclists crossing. Hand rail is totally busted so pedestrian s could end up in danger. Heard that a new separate bridge is coming up. Maybe this bridge ahould be renovated with its rustic looks as a tourist attraction with its natural beauty.

Madu Ganga is a minor watercourse which originates near Uragasmanhandiya in the Galle District of Sri Lanka, before widening into the Madu Ganga Lake at Balapitiya. The river then flows for a further a 4.4 km (2.7 mi) before draining into the Indian Ocean. It is located 88 km (55 mi) south of Colombo and 35 km (22 mi) north of Galle. The Buddhist Amarapura Nikaya sect had its first upasampada (higher ordination ceremony) on a fleet of boats anchored upon it in 1803. The Buddhist Kothduwa temple is situated on an isolated island in the lake. Madu Ganga Lake, together with the smaller Randombe Lake, to which it is connected by two narrow channels, forms the Madu Ganga wetland. It's estuary and the many mangrove islets on it constitute a complex coastal wetland ecosystem. It has a high ecological, biological and aesthetic significance, being home to approximately 303 species of plants belonging to 95 families and to 248 species of vertebrate animals. The inhabitants of its islets produce peeled cinnamon and cinnamon oil. The Madu Ganga Wetland was formally declared in 2003, in terms of the Ramsar Convention.

The best place to start a tour around Maaduganga. Car parking space available and the road to this place is in good condition. A small bridge made of steal and wood carries people to Maaduwa across Madaduwa (Only walking, cycling and motorcycle riding is possible). The boat service that starts from this place is excellent. He carried us through Kadolaana and to the temple, cinnamon island, fish therapy point, an island with a rock facing the river for our meal, a floating shop. A great experience.
