Watch out for the scam! The monk shows you a book where all donations are written down. By accident we found out, that he always adds one or more zeros at the amount of the previous donators to make you feel bad if you just want to donate few hundred rupees. We gave him 200 rupees and when the couple after us arrived he make them believe we gave 2000 so they gave him also 2000 to not feel stingy.

Classic tourist trap so be aware that they will try everything to take your money. They are professional scammers that hide behind religion, zero respect for them.

This is an old temple which has close to 1000 years of history associated to the place which it is located. The current buildings are over 100 years old and located in a very peaceful environment. The temple has its own dock if you planning to come by boat. In our case we walked all the way from main land which was very scenic. After placing our offerings in the image house we met the chief incubant monk and he was very friendly and told us the history of that area. It's very nice place to visit if you are planning visit the island. You could get a boat back from the jetty which located little bit away from the temple down the road.

Temple is nice. But unfortunately it's becoming bit of a tourist trap. The monk explains a bit and forces you to give a donation and write the amount in a book. It's better to have just a till and then give the option of donating whatever you can.

Located in Balapitiya across the beautiful Madhu river, this temple is a must visit. This serene temple was built 200+ years ago by Nileththi Carolis De Silva Wickramasinghe Arachchi and is under the patronage of the Wickramasinghe family. Pro tip: always opt for the boat ride as the bridge across is in almost ruins. Also, keep an eye out for crocodiles in the river on your journey.

Just don't go there. Chief monk is a scammer. Always ask for donations and if anyone don't give donations he blames them. He is a great shame to Buddhism.
