As a special bonus the bad on upper level right next to the open window with a stranger below you, scratching his skin and shaking the bed, so you have all the chances to fall out of this bad right into the window. And yeah, morning coffee is not included into the room price. However, good they almost always have a place in case if you need to stay over night somewhere.

central, reasonably priced, accommodative hostel with charm, run by some REALLY nice people! Me and some friend stayed here for 5 days whaile visiting Utrecht, and ended up here. They have a common area for people to migle and eat, a kitchen for storing and preparing food, and a lovely garden in the back wich was a rainforest of different plants and bushes, including a little frogpond in the middle. Since we were three people, we got ourselves a three man room, which i really liked the look of. It is not luxurious, as there were little more than three beds and a sink, but i simple LOVED the untreated wooden beams and slanted roof in this room, made it really cosy, especially with some dim lighting. will most likely come back if we return to Utrech

The best hostel I have ever stayed. Cleanness (despite renovation) was impressive. The stuff was great. They have a locker, too. I still can't believe how quite it was with 20 or so people in it. Loved it!

I recently stayed in Strowis Hostel as I was on a trip to Utrecht. I would highly recommend anyone going in Utrecht, or in a town near Utrecht to stay at this hostel. The gentlemen I met who were working in the reception were very nice. The hostel is so close to the centre of Utrecht. I had a lovely sleep in a nice room. There is a lovely outside area for you to have a bite to eat, cigarette and coffee. One of Europe's best hostels.

Loved my stay here! Very cool place. It’s in quite an old building, and you can feel that character throughout. BEAUTIFUL patio. Just a really neat place. I had a 6 bed room that was quite large, with a window that opened onto the street. There’s a well equipped kitchen where I saw several people cooking. The lobby/lounge is big with lots of seating and very comfy.

Amazing hostel with good vibes. The guy at the front desk was extremely friendly, and as soon as I checked in the lady at the cafe offered me a free tea! The main lobby lounge is really cool, inviting, and laid back. Ton of other young travelers and easy to socialize. Location is perfect and right in the central of Utrecht. Rooms were clean. Only downside is that the kitchen is small with not a lot of cutlery/plates. Highly recommend this place!

A really chill hostel! Was able to spend the night there spontaneously and chatted with the employees for quite a bit, had a really nice time! Rooms are simple but got everything you need, as is the complete hostel - the room where you can hang out is cozy.

Perfect hostel. Amazig location, light room with high ceiling, friendly staff (mostly english speaking, not a lot of dutch). We didn't try the breakfast but looked good. About 10 mins walk (max) to city center. You get your key and accescode for the main door so you can enter at all times and feel safe at the same time.

One of the best hostel where I've ever been, the first one of utrecht, if u're planning to visit utrecht for a few days, you don't wanna spend to much and you wanna feel in touch with the culture and atmosphere of this city, you must come here! ( The staff is super lovely and helpful)

Stayed 3 nights, and it was insanely loud on the street outside from 11 pm - 4 am every single night. Maybe it was because of the bars nearby, but there were people screaming, singing, and running down the street. The worst part was that the hostel bolted the windows OPEN, probably due to poor ventilation, so there’s no way to escape the noise. I also got a number of mosquito bites, which is pretty strange for November. The facilities are generally clean, although as mentioned by other reviewers the showers have a motion sensor light that turns off every 10 seconds. Overall good location, cute building, but some strange choices by the management.

Juan was very nice and polite. However no hot water and no central heating for the huge prices they are charging is awful. Night time staff wasn't bothered helping

Traveled solo and stayed here one night, the location is about 20 mins walk from Utrecht Centraal station which was perfect for me. The facilities were well used, but clean and cozy. Staff was friendly, and had nearly everything you could need on site.The only downside was they happened to be filming a film or series of some kind in the common area the night I stayed there. I checked in that afternoon and didn’t have a warning that I wouldn’t have access to the hostel that same evening. I spent quite a bit of time waiting outside next to some crew in a rainstorm, dry but freezing. And then when I was allowed in it was several hours before the common area was open for use again. A warning to travelers about events is always appreciated. ❤️

Great location and good staff, but I feel it’s a bit overpriced for the facilities it offers. One out of two toilets on the floor wasn’t working during my stay.

The rooms are super hot and don’t have anything but 1 small table top fan. The beds are extremely wobbly and unsecure. The showers are perhaps the worst though - they are cold water and have a button to turn on the water like how public restroom sinks can have sometimes. The water shuts off after about 5 seconds so you have to hold your hand on the water button the entire time during your shower. Truly baffling that the owner’d think that would be cool with people. Lastly as another review mentioned - the toilets are not ventilated so if you have to go after someone else.. Overall the owners made sure to provide a really unempathetic stay. The only selling points of the place are its location and the hangout garden in the back.

Pros: Located minutes from the Dom Tower as well as only a few stops from Utrecht Central Station, Strowis has been here for decades, serving as a place for those who are solo travelers. They've got a coffee station/a bar, and a place that you can chat well into the night with other struck with wanderlust. The hostel makes a conscientious effort to ensure guests stay at least 2 nights, which means fewer bachelor's/bachelorette's parties, or families looking to stop for a single night. The employee are all amazing people, and they proudly display their history in how they managed to convert the hostel from an abandoned building to the haven it is now today. They're experienced, interesting, and professional. Excellent people. Cons: The lockers are not in the rooms themselves (possibly a plus since you won't hear other guests rustle around either). The beds are nothing to write to home about, a bit squeaky too. The showers are also the kind that you have to press on a button to get it to continuously to pour out water. Also, the interior design feels barebones and dated at the same time. It gets pretty hot sometimes in the rooms. I would recommend ignoring the cons. The type of people it attracts, as well as the conscientious effort the hostel puts in to accommodate solo travelers. You are sure to have an unforgettable experience if your luck is correct.

I got bedbugs from them. I stayed in room 1. The sign said they were sold out but strangely the bed below me wasn't taken and I learned the next morning it must have been because of bedbugs which I spotted one as I was packing up. I told them about it and all they did was apologize. Sadly they must have been on my bed too and now they were my problem and Hostel Strowis only offered another apology. Besides that, the showers had motion sensor lights that turned off about 10x in the 5 min shower I had. There are also a lot of long term guests which changes the vibe of the hostel. The staff at check in were nice and offered me a tea while I waited. It wasn't enough to compensate for everything else so I don't recommend this hostel.

What a beautiful spot in the centre of Utrecht. I was super happy to find this spot. I was looking for a place to spend the night while I'm "in between houses". This hostel is great, because you feel like you can really relax in the beautiful big garden. Additionally, there is a kitchen to cook your own food and the staff is super friendly. They offer towels at no additional charge, as well as a free drink when you arrive. The hostel staff is very engaged with the guests, chatting and hanging out together. Great place to feel at home. Minor points to improve: - the kitchen opens from 8.00 am, which is a bit late if you want to go out early for a day trip (or work in my case) - same problem for the lockers. The lockers are free to use, but need a deposit of 10 euro's. If you want to leave before the reception opens in the morning, you cannot get your deposit back, so you have to take your stuff out of the locker the night before. This kind of defeats the purpose of having lockers in the first place. Maybe upgrade them to a code lock? - the showers take forever to get warm. At first I thought they only had cold water, but I didn't mind, because it was hot outside anyway. The water started to get warm when I finished my shower.

Very cute and quaint hostel. The building is quite old and rustic and the back garden is overgrown (which was still very nice) but I think that all adds to the hostel's charm and character. Full kitchen was nice, they offered "free" lockers (had to give a 10€ cash deposit but got it back when the key was returned) and linens and a towel were included, whereas most hostels charge for towels. One slight negative was that there isn't much ventilation in the toilets so some often smelt and there aren't a whole lot of them, or showers. The location of the hostel is also great - only a very short walk to one of the main squares and a ~10 minute walk from the Utrecht Centraal Station. Overall I highly recommend this hostel if staying in Utrecht, NL!
