Literally the best hostel. I was travelling through Sri Lanka for 2 months. Was supposed to travel around south coast going from town to town with a new hostel every town. I went Hikkaduwa, Mirissa, Tangalle but then I came to Weligama and found Rockstel Hostel. I was supposed to spend one day there. This one day became 2 1/2 weeks, every day I was convinced I would leave the next day but every morning had to rebook another night. It became a running joke around the hostel that everybody would always say “one more day”. Me and many others overstayed our original plan because the place has such a good atmosphere- hostel visitors but also more importantly the staff. They’re so accommodating and friendly. I feel bad not mentioning all of them so I will just name new friend Laki. Laki is the hostel manager and the best man. He’s very professional but also a great guy who will often hang out with everyone, he’s part of the party but also will give you helpful local tips(never any money included(which is common)). Honest great man. I had some medical surf troubles at the end and he helped me out in the hospital (as an Englishman but Sinhalese is poor to say the least) speaking to the local staff, visited me and brought me food. He did this all In his own time because of his big heart. Again, the atmosphere at this hostel was amazing. It’s also a very good location near the beach and a local supermarket. It’s very affordable and the rooms have comfy beds, air conditioning(important!), warm showers and is clean. Can’t recommend this hostel enough. The south coast isn’t too big, if you want to travel around it I would recommend staying in Rockstel Weligama and travelling each day to a new place. Or just stay in Weligama, it’s so good! Coming back next year

It’s definitely best place in Weligama. Big outside area for playing volleyball, badminton(they have all needed equipment). Also, I found everything I needed for cooking - there is a big cozy kitchen in hostel:) AC rooms - should be mentioned: end your long day in a cool room - not the last thing you would want to.. Perfect..

The hostel is super spacious and has loads of places to chill out after a morning of surfing! It is super close to the beach and is linked with a really nice surf school called Surf Mania ! The rooms are really cheap for how clean and nice they are , especially compared to what is around weligama. There is also a communal kitchen which you can use whenever , which was super important for us to save money . The vibe here is nice and chilled and they have a rooftop where guests chill together in the evenings before going out together :)

Very good location with the beach, many restaurants and a lot of surf schools and board rentals nearby. It’s not front row, which can be very noisy, but you’re there within a 5 minutes walk, so that’s a plus, too. Rooms are clean and beds are comfy. There’s a backyard where you can hang your clothes to dry, a washing machine and a rooftop terrace

I was very disappointed by this place and would definitely NOT recommend it to anyone! Everything here feels outdated including bed sheets, the place is fairly dirty and the rooms extremely packed. My dorm room had one mid-sized storage per bed (which is convenient), but not even a small shelf next to bed where you could leave your glasses, earplugs or phone next to you. The bed does not stick to the wall by a size bigger than a bottle of water, so it would fall through if you wanted to have it with you during the night. Bathrooms are dirty and (again) with no place to put things. One additional star for nice staff and water refill, but there is seriously a lot to improve

Had the time of my life here. Spent in total more than 2 months during the corona times. They have one of the best matrasses of the Sri Lanka hostels. The AC rooms are amazing. + Razlan (the manager) is the best; very helpful and speaks very good english and is very clever. Feels sad to leave this place.

Rockstel Weligama is the place to stay if you are looking for a place which is filled with great people and good vibes. I only wanted to stay one night... ended up there 9 nights, or 10? Who is counting anyway. The staff is really lovely and helpful. They organize happenings regularly, like a safari, pasta night, movie night, volleyball tournaments. I personally felt at home at rockstel and can warmly recommend it to every wandering soul out there who is looking for good people, a cheap bed and lots of cool things to do. Had the best time there.

Great place for a affordable price. Ample space, comfy beds, secure and spacious lockers (the best I HV seen in a hostel). Remote working facilities are there. Ample number Power outlets with couple of work tables are there. Fully equipped kitchen is there if you like to cook. A few common areas to chill out. There is a big rooftop if you wanna have a party. Owner is very helpful and friendly. Secure parking is also available. Definitely go there again.

Stayed in the hostel for 3 days and it was a great experience. The owner is really friendly and there's plenty of space in the hostels. The rooms are clean and there's even an area where you can work easily with less disturbances. If you want to cook there's a kitchen as well. Conveniently located very near to the beach, supermarket and other places to find food. Recommending this place!

We stayed in the Double Room with Air Con for one night; it was large, comfortable and met our needs. Basic and nothing special, but a good affordable option if you want something close to the train station, the supermarket and good restaurants. The kitchen is well equipped too, if that’s your thing.

I recently stayed at Backpackers Hub and I have to say, it was an amazing experience. The homeowner and the staff were all incredibly friendly, accommodating and made me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. The hostel is well-maintained, clean, and is fully equipped with everything a backpacker needs. The atmosphere is relaxing yet social, which made it easy for me to meet new people and make friends. The location also couldn't be better, with easy access to public transport and close proximity to many tourist attractions. Overall, I had a wonderful time staying at Backpackers Hub and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, affordable, and enjoyable hostel experience. It was truly one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in and I will definitely be back if I'm in the area.

As a solo backpacker, I can vouch that Backpack Hub is one of the best places to stay in Weligama. It has a vibrant ambience that's perfect for socialising. I was able to meet and hang out with interesting folk from different corners of the globe. The hostel rooftop is a good spot to wind down and relax. It has a mini gym and space for yoga and meditation, which is ideal for a quick workout or some time alone (depending on how you feel). The owner and staff are also extremely friendly and accommodating. During my stay they saw to my every need promptly - with the caretaker even going out of his way to whip up a delicious milk rice breakfast:) Though the property is not essentially on the beachfront, it takes only 5 minutes to walk to the Weligama bay. It's also a couple of minutes away from the Cargills supermarket and bus stand, making it super convenient to do your own groceries or hitch a bus ride to neighbouring beaches like Mirissa and Ahangama. All in all, the Backpack Hub offers an incredible hostel experience and I highly recommend checking it out!

Unfortunately very bad experience. I booked a private room for me and my girlfriend for 4 nights. We ended up cancelling within the first night. We arrived late and were shocked about the cleanliness and hygiene in this place. The sink was covered in hair from the last shave, all surfaces were sticky and the floor was dirty and sandy. All in all just filthy. They gave us a different room which was slightly better but we ended up leaving the next morning anyway. Although the staff didnt do their job (cleaning) they were still and helpful, even when canceled. Cant say much about the atmosphere and the vibe in this place. Its located very close to weligama beach. Cant recommend to stay here because apparently its hardly cleaned at any time.
