Really enjoyed Dalton's! Beautiful place, lovely rooms, and had some of the best food over had in Sierra Leone so far. The balcony area is awesome to sit and chill on. There's a beach a short walk away that we went to and we were the only people sitting on it, it was paradise. The staff were really friendly and helpful and we also had a historical tour by the deputy chief of banana island for 40,000 Le. Would absolutely recommend Dalton's to stay at (plus, it's only 100,000 Le for the cheapest room, I think the most expensive was 200,000 Le!) compared to a lot more at the only other place on the island (which is tents).

OK if you go there alone don't accept the boat transfer they offer... If you're a group it's worth it! Then you need to know that when you get to the pier, people will offer to show you where it is in exchange of some money... Don't accept! the pier is 50 meters away from where the taxi will drop you πŸ˜‚ then you have a tax to pay at the pier in order to cross... If you're alone negociate with a fisherman to get to the island. On the over side you'll have to pay another tax just for going on the island... Then all prices are subject to an extra 15% tax! So you think you're going to a cheap backpacker's place and you end up paying a big bill πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„

This place is the perfect gettaway from the busy en loud city if Freetown. The guest house offers a informal and friendly environment with lots of options in the day. Great to meet other travellers with Greg being the most knowledgeable of them all. We loved our time here and would definitely advise others to go!

Great experience of the island with Dalton’s. I enjoyed my weekend getaway with my wife. Lots of great activities. I enjoyed the historical tour and guided forest walk the most. Don’t expect elaborate luxury, but beautiful peaceful local setting. This place is paradise on Freetown. I highly recommend you visit in group of min four to save cost.

A great place to take some time off. Eather just chilling in the hammock or going for fishing, snorkeling and experiencing the island. The stuff is really nice and if you let them know what you need or wish for they will help you to enjoy your stay. The rooms are basic but the mattress is very good. You don't have socket in the room but have the chance to charge your electronics at the bar. Beside spending your time at Daltons you can walk the island and find yourself a drink at any other Guesthouse or the Island Cafe, a local running bar. They will all welcome you warmly.

I went with three friends and stayed over a long holiday weekend. Us and one other person were the only guests on the island for three days. There are only four or five rooms so it seems unlikely that there would ever be very many people there. The shared guest space is very pleasant with tables, hammocks, and a treehouse-type platform above the beach. We packed a box full of snacks but purchased meals from the staff. The food was basic but good: fish, chicken, soup; bread and eggs for breakfast. The owner was even kind enough to share the meat from a goat slaughtered for a special occasion. We were there in rainy season and sure enough, it rained about half the time. We relaxed, read, played games while it rained. When it wasn't raining, we walked to the other beach where I saw monkeys and several creepy-crawly critters. Unfortunately, the beach on that side had not been cleaned and was covered in trash from Freetown. We also took the boat for scuba diving so we were able to see some of the island and enjoy the water. The water was not too clear given the season but not too bad. We also took the village walk, which was very interesting, although the guide spoke in only Krio and didn't know much beyond the history basics. Clearly, there is much more to discover about the role of the slave trade in shaping the history of the islands, Sierra Leone, and other nations. I highly recommend Banana Island for a few days if you are in Freetown. It is very close and accessible, and you'll feel a world away from the city.

Daltons was really the refreshing getaway with nature that I needed. The manager and chefs are also very warm and make you feel at home. Food is always freshly prepared and with a wide variety available. I totally enjoyed staying there. Only con was that the rooms are as basic as basic gets with no electricity socket so we had to charge all devices at the β€˜reception’

Amazing resort in an amazing island. You feel at home since the very beginnig: easily reached from Freetown in a short ride via car. Once you get to Kent simply call the resort and you will be picked for a memorable stay in a quiet, happy island. I preferred to walk in the jungle to reach the best beaches, nature so untouched. Forests so lush and full of life. Sleeping with the sound of the waves was another great experience!

This is a lovely and quite place. Run a nice couple. Their cottage rent is reasonable, around 20-25 dollar. Food can be ordered in their small restaurent. They have scuba diving, fishing, and few more water sports. They are promoting the Banana island and uts community development.

One of the best beach resorts in Sierra Leone. With opportunities for fun activities fishing and snorkelling trips, scuba diving and many excursions to other islands of Sierra Leone. There is great organisation and the centre of all is the fun and enjoyment of the guest. Keep it up!

Banana Island is a great option for a couple of days away from Freetown. Daltons is a basic backpacker type guest house although you can get larger rooms with bathrooms. The rooms have mosquito nets. You only need your room to sleep in though as there is a nice laid back communal area with hammocks and a treetop canopy. The food was great and staff all nice and friendly. I definitely recommend the historical tour to learn about the island's dark past, and I enjoyed the chilled vibe of village life. The jungle walk to Ricketts village is worth a trip but is a difficult 14km in the heat and we were eaten by mosquitoes on the way back (even with bug spray, long trousers etc). I'm not a diver but we had a nice time snorkelling and saw some cool fish. We only saw fins on the horizon whale-watching which was just bad luck as the previous group were a lot closer to them. The bar has water, sodas and beers and the meals are great but I recommend you bring snacks. Everything is split by number of people so its cheaper to go in groups of 3/4. They organised our taxi back to Freetown from Kent at a reasonable price compared to what some offer. Greg is really easy to contact and responds quickly to emails. All in all I felt very well looked after. Only problem was we were told we could pay by card but when we came to pay the card machine had no connection so we had to drive around ATMs at Freetown trying to pull together the cash for the bill. Had we known it was cash only in advance we would have made sure we had enough. Also if you have valuables with you (laptop, passport etc) I would put them in a dry bag for the boat.

Amazing place when you approach the beach by boat. Greg is nice and helpful, very involved. Downside is that nothing works when he's not around, staff is absolutely dependent on him.

This is my second time coming here. We visited about 12 years ago. It's still a great place to stay and eat food.

Spent about 4 nights at Daltons and absolutely loved it!!! It’s a hidden paradise away from the chaos of the mainland. The beach is right in front ready to swim, the bungalows are just perfect with mosquito nets. The food is delicious, the chief is just beyond lovely and will go above and beyond for you. It was the perfect place to escape and relax. If you wanted they also offer a wide range of activities to do on the island as well for a very reasonable price

Some of the cheapest guest houses in Sierra Leone have fans, yet this can't be managed by a popular resort which charges 1300-1500 Leones per night plus tax. One room has a ceiling fan which does nothing. The manager told us that the breeze would cool the room in the night, but it remained swelteringly hot throughout. He didn't care in the slightest that two of his guests did not sleep at all. Manager and guide for hiking also gave us b.s. about distances to fit what they wanted to do. I will never return to this place, and recommend that you don't either; stay at Bureh with better resources for half the price. Beautiful island, but hard to enjoy on no sleep. The chef was lovely & welcoming, and makes delicious food.
