I only come here because i live in the neighbourhood so it’s close when you want that day off of cooking lol. BUT every time i’ve been here it’s the worst service, and the food is always over cooked or sitting under the heat lamp too long. takes over an hour to get anything off the menu. the young servers just constantly say sorry it’s taking so long, feel bad for them. my last visit the server literally asked me how long we were waiting for food and said he would discount it as it is took over an hour for nachos and two chicken sandwiches, with a standard amount of ppl at the restaurant it is always short staffed. you basically have to order two beers at once because it takes too long for literally anything here. the owner was even on the stove in the back. If you like being in a restaurant for over 3 hrs this place will work for you. I don’t even like to write reviews. but this time i couldn’t hold back be better royal oak jeez

After reading many reviews, I agree with the dismal and poor service at this establishment. I read some of the comments, where the owner responded, and posted that they reach out (either by email or call) I tried that, well over a month ago, and I got no answer… instead, I got … *crickets* It’s really too bad, but the constant excuse for poor service/meals/ etc for years now, is “miscommunication”…. Too bad places can’t seem to treat their regulars better. Good thing Whitby has many other incredible establishments

I agree with most of the negative reviews, service is usually ok, or completely off. Have been ignored on both waiting to be seated or seated and the worst had a menu tossed at me. My hubby and I just left. Also the food needs to be more consistent, I get same appetizer, its gone from bland to so spicy we cant eat it...oh also FYI never come at shift change, most time your left to fend for yourself

My family just moved into this area and have gone to this pub 3 times. The food is really good. The drinks are great too. 4/5 for the food. Unfortunately the service is really poor. Everyone is friendly and nice, but every time we’ve gone, it took an abnormally long time for our ord to taken. Once we received the orders, there was never a check up to confirm that the orders came out to our liking . We’re constantly having to flag our server down to get refills of drinks instead of them recognizing that we’re running low. Having to sit and wait 5-10 minutes to catch your servers eye to ask for a refill isn’t a great experience. One occasion , our grandmother ordered non breaded chicken wings, and we were given breaded. No big deal, mistakes happen. So we ask for them to be exchanged with non breaded. We promptly received non breaded , however they were still pink. Almost as if the kitchen rushed the order and didn’t cook the chicken. Because the servers don’t check up on the tables frequently, we had to go take the wings and walk them to our server to tell them the issue. Mistakes happen, the issue isn’t that there was a mistake. The big issue with this place seems to be the lack of attention the servers give the table once the food/drinks arrive. We shouldn’t have to be waiting 5-10 minutes for drink refills or to ask for a bottle of ketchup that didn’t come with the fries and now the fries are getting cold. None of these 3 experiences were on a busy time/day The food is really good though . It’s the only pub in walking distance so we’ll be back but it’s disappointing to say the least. If another pub was open close to it we would definitely go there. I hope you can fix the server issue, because with great attentive service this place would be 5*

I like this place. Dined here recently with a few co-workers. It was very very busy at the time (Friday night) but was still able to get a table pretty quickly. Maybe could use some more TVs. Ordered the nachos, cauliflower bites, and spinach dip. I’ll be back soon!

Terrible service. It took 20 minutes after sitting down for someone to take our order... Got worse from there. The grilled veggie wrap arrived cold, filled with steamed carrots and lettuce - the menu describes it as having grilled zucchini, onion, pepper... Lies! The turkey sandwich was missing the cranberry sauce. Slow service. We didn't get what we ordered. No one seemed to care!!! Sat staring at uncleared tables for the 1.5 hours we were there. We won't be back. I do not recommend this place!!!

Spent nearly $25 on a mediocre chicken sandwich, the thin layer of cheese and 2 pieces of well-done bacon did not compliment the Frank's Red hot excuse for a hot sauce topping. Fries were also well done and dry with no flavor. Massively disappointed and no you will not find anything else worth ordering her unless you have horrible taste buds because that was just trash.

Had a business lunch there, it's been awhile but I use to regularly go there for lunch. Prices have gotten ridiculous for what you get. The quality of food has decreased a lot none of the food I had was good. Was very disappointed considering price I'll be going elsewhere. Sad to see the place has gone downhill.

Good food. It was not that busy last night and yet we waited for drinks for a while. We were moved to a new section and the service got better.

The portions were a nice size and generally good tasting. The service was friendly, but non-enthusiastic. Inside was chilly. Two, in wall, fireplaces were not turned on and a cold draft seemed to run through the entire place.

The food and atmosphere were really good. Service was good too. (The server was pleasant even after working a long day. Maybe they need more help? It was the St. Patrick's Day weekend and they had a special menu, so maybe they needed more help?) We would go back, even though we live nowhere near here. Nice pub.

The Oscar for DESTROYING a simple fish and chips dish goeeees toooooo The Royal Oak. Soggy fries and fish batter. Smelly fish resulted in “luckily” very light food poisoning. If you can’t cook it don’t serve it. That simple. Subway sandwiches are like 3 Michelin Stars comparing to what I had on Friday night.

Went on a Friday, early evening. It was slow just starting to get a little busy. Took almost ten minutes for staff to acknowledge us. Another 5 to be seated. Then the waitress came and took our order. Took another ten to get our drinks. After another twenty mins of no food or check in, at this point we were ready to go and were waiting for the waitress to come out to get the bill. Another waitress asked how we were. We told her we wanted our food to go and the bill and how long we've been waiting to even be acknowledged. They said somebody had quit a few days earlier and they're short. They comped the food, I think the second waitess was used to doing it.

Got seated on the mostly-empty patio this evening and waited patiently for someone to come and take an order. About 4 different servers passed by, roughly 2-3 times each) to clear tables as the patio emptied further. 20 minutes go by and still no approach by any servers. We decided to leave. I hate giving low ratings, but to have that many servers not even make eye contact is a bit much. Sorry.

Our meals were great and so was the service. We went at a weird time when they were switching over their menu so they didn’t have a lot of protein options which was a bit of a bummer but overall it was a good experience.

Fun place. Good food. Reasonably priced. Great service. Lots of TVs showing the soccer/football match so was a little noisy for a bit but to be expected. Update: food was fabulous, Beef Dip was soooo good. A very relaxing lunch atmosphere! Service once again was outstanding!

This was our first time at Royal Oak. Our server was pleasant and friendly. They didn't have our first choice of meal, Fish & Chips, so I had the Fish Tacos which were ok. After this experience, the Royal Oak wouldn't be my first choice, but I would definitely give it another try.

My wife and I are regular patrons, and while we always receive great service here, yesterday was quite exemplary. The restaurant was relatively busy, and the young man serving us took great care and was very attentive. The food was amazing as always (the smokehouse burger and roasted goat cheese/walnut salad), and the margaritas the young lady on bar made were some of the best I've had. Always worth a visit to the Royal Oak.

Yesterday my Mother and I went for lunch and our experience was less than adequate. Matt one of the owners reached out to me directly and offered to make the next visit right. It's really nice to see people stand behind what they do by making their customers happy. Thanks Matt and I look forward to my next visit with my Mother. Follow up August 6th. Today's experience was absolutely amazing. Food was hot, plates were over flowing. Our server William was very attentive and friendly and brought us everything we needed. Noah also stopped by to see if we needed anything. Thanks again to Matt for making our second experience fabulous, 💯 percent today.

MY goat cheese and walnut salad was wonderful but my friend ordered the shepherd's pie which he said was tasteless and looked really watery. Our server was great and apologized for the Shepherds pie and adjusted the bill which was very much appreciated.

Walked in to the restaurant and the Server / Bartender just walks by us. The invisible treatment. Comes back 5 minutes later and tells us that he will seat us soon. He then makes a beeline and rushes immediately to the open sign to turn it off and lower the curtains. It's 8:50pm. The restaurant closes at 10pm. On the website it states 11pm. Looking around the restaurant and very few patrons have been served. Immediately I know the service will be subpar... Once again at this Royal Oak and by this Particular Sever. This wasn't the first time.... And most likely won't be the last time with this server. This has been the theme for this establishment since Covid and now. We left.... That's my last visit to Royal Oak. I have been a regular there for YEARS. It's so true how one employee for a company in the service industry can ruin it for the others there.

Server was nice but didn’t ask how my food was. food was below par. French onion soup had a slice of bread on top. Pushed it into bowl and half the soup overflowed onto plate with napkin on it. Fish and chips batter seemed uncooked inside and coleslaw was raw cabbage.

The service was fantastic, the atmosphere was warming. My mother lives close by so we decided to take her out for lunch to this pub. Unfortunately the fish and chips I had, the fish wasn't cooked and my wife's quasadias where very dry wuth not much flavor. Not sure if I would recommend this establishment.

Had such an amazing time tonight- it was our first time checking out the pub and I'm so glad we did! The staff made us feel so welcome and were so friendly, the atmosphere was cute and cozy, and the service was amazing... We will definitely be coming back!!

Decent pub with good food. We ordered the Irish Nachos that were on Special and we got the Spicy Asian Noodle bowl. The bowl was ok a little sweet and sour. The Irish Nachos were a little over done. Overall the vibe was good and it’s a good place for a drink and to watch the game!

I came for some drinks and food on the patio last night. Unfortunately the patio was very busy but no complaints. Great food nice people and excellent customer service from the server. Definitely coming back

There seems to an inconsistency with the breakfast menu. Some weekends it's available, some weekends it's not. Last weekend we went to the Oak for breakfast. They had run out of eggs so it wasn't available! Couldn't they have gone to the grocery store next door and bought eggs? Also their food is tremendously salty. We like going there because it's local. Looks like we'll have to phone in advance to see if they're serving breakfast. Very disappointing!

I had steak and mushroom pie with salad. While it look great i was disappointed. There very little steak and mushroom inside, it was overly salty and very watery inside. The staffs are great. I would still good back but order something else. To the owner, please check on the food to make sure they are up to par.
