Beautiful scenic view with and breathtaking views of Whitby Harbour and Sandsend. Really worth the massive hike on those steps to really appreciate the views. Best enjoyed on a summer evening.

A very trying but 'well worth it' climb. Like most of the comments here, it was a must if you come to Whitby. At every stage of the way, the views are amazing. The climb didn't seem hard or long in any way. It probably burnt off the fish and chips I just had 🀣 Good exercise for that view at the top

One of the North Easts favourite seaside locations, fantastic views, brilliant coves and beach to explore, many quirky shops and plenty of food outlets. A great climb up the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey topped off by an ice cream.

Beautiful scenic view with and breathtaking views of Whitby Harbour and Sandsend. Really worth the massive hike on those steps to really appreciate the views. Best enjoyed on a summer evening. Go in the early morning or late evening for pictures with little to no people

One of the most scenic parts of Whitby, a thorough workout getting to the top, but as long as you can climb stairs, you can do this. Just take your time and enjoy the views. The Graveyard is filled with history, many going back decades. If you go at a low tide, beneath the graveyard on the beach is a concrete boat ship wreck. It’s a lovely walk, but make sure you have timings right.

As people say "Well worth the climb" . It's true. Climbed the steps a few times now. And never fails to impress. Love the place. It's a little bit romantic too. Nice to have a wonder around when yous up the top aswell. There is also a cobbled slope next to steps if you can't manage steps. Althoni would not recommend taking Prams, buggies and wheelchairs up. Which we seen last time.

An amazing view and a must do if you visit Whitby. Offers lovely views, a bit of a rest every 50 steps and leads up to the historical Whitby Abbey. Definitely would recommend .

Great fun to walk up. The steps have an easy rise so even if you have walking problems you’ll be ok. There are handrails on both sides and a couple of benches if you need a rest.

What a wonderful spot! Definitely a healthy exercises up and down the stairs but glad I could see while travelling to town. I think it was a packed day and many people were walking this way but there are a few benches on the left side as you walk up and easy to rest if needed. Every time I walked a few stairs up I turned back and could spot the twin from a different angle. Ah, how super! Fall in love of this place definitely will return.

Just come back from a week's holiday in Whitby. Such an amazing place. Take the time to climb the 199 steps (see if you can count them up and down without getting distracted by the fabulous views 😁)

A must do at least once while visiting whitby. Can be extremely busy at times but timed right (early morning/evening) offers some fantastic views of the harbour/town. Attempt these steps with caution, it is easy to miss a step and trip.

Worth the walk, we love this everytime we visit whitby. We see the views through every changing season and they are beautiful. At the top you reach entrance to the the Abbey and church.

Steps aren't too steep so they are relatively easy to conquer, perhaps with the occasionally break to catch your breath. Well worth the walk up, even just to see the views over Whitby. Beautiful location, thoroughly recommend.

Such fantastic views from the steps The Abby ruins were far to expensive to look around which was disappointing Whitby is a beautiful quaint seaside town and I had a great day there lots to see Marys church was very inviting even had a place that you could pour yourself a complimentary tea or coffee and a biscuit I found the church very interesting. There was a note as you walked in asking the public not to ask where Dracula's grave was which I found amazing

It’s WORTH the effort. Seat stops along the way. Beautiful Abbey and Church at the top, plus epic views and the lovely Whitby Brewery Ltd!

Pictures are of Whitby but not the steps (sorry, I'll edit later) - definitely worth visiting Whitby in general and the view from the top of the steps is outstanding!

The stairs offer a great view of the town! There are quite a few, so it is nice that they are wide offering plenty of room to those that go faster or slower than others. In addition, there are benches along the way to stop and catch your breath if needed, or just take a few more pics without being bothersome to others navigating their way up & down. Both ends of the stairs are great as they take you into the town, or up to the Abbey.

What amazing views here over Whitby and the sea, and the harbour, it is spectacular to look over as you climb the steps it has many view points along the way, I would recommend that when you are in Whitby come and see the views here as you climb the steps, I had a very nice time.

There's no place like Whitby,my favourite place is at the top of the steps over looking the view, peace and tranquility only the sounds of the waves, seagulls and church bells. I adore the historical church and Abbey

Have been climbing the 199 steps from being a small child. The views are stunning, and the church at the top is steeped in local history as is Whitby Abbey. Climb these whenever in Whitby. Look forward to the drive from Winchester to depend time in Whitby.
