Hands down THE BEST JIU-JITSU GYM. I started training at Team DNA Brazilian Jiu-jitsu gym in Whitby in January 2023 with my wife and 3 kids. I sent email to inquire and got a prompt, professional and very welcoming response. We were encouraged to start a free one week trial. After our first class we knew that this is our home away from home. Professor Dainis who is a world class jiu-jitsu athlete and his wife Professor Sarah welcomed us with open arms. It is a family oriented environment. If you want to compete, you are given tailored training for that and if you just want to focus on fitness, discipline and skills, you are equally given training based on your goals. Your safety is their top priority and discussions in gym are mostly about healthy lifestyle habits and choices. I wanted my daughters to have a private lesson before their competition but Professor Dainis told me that he has been keeping an eye on their progress on daily basis, knows exactly where they stand and there is no need for private lesson. This is how you know that there is no upsell here at all. Each class is like a private lesson as each athlete gets specific feedback. Professor Dainis teaches most classes from 4 year old to 70+ year old and when he is competing, Professor Sarah and other top coaches teach the classes. You are given specific feedback to ensure execution of proper techniques. You will see the beginner self defense classes where parents and children are learning and having so much fun in same class. The aim of Professors and all coaches is to set everyone up for success. They greet and treat everyone with utmost respect and personally coach each competitor during the competition and provide them with specific feedback after the matches so everyone stays humble and hungry to continue their journey of getting better not just in jiu-jitsu but in their daily life. I HIGHLY recommend that you call and reserve your free trial and I guarantee that you will be pleased for making one of the best decisions to join Team DNA, my family definitely is and I hope to see most of you reading this review, on the mats. OSS!

The coaches here are absolutely fantastic. They are not only highly skilled and knowledgeable in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but they are also incredibly patient and supportive. As a beginner, I had my fair share of questions and concerns, and they took the time to address each one of them with care. Whether you're a complete newbie like me or have some experience in martial arts, this academy is the perfect place to start or continue your journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I can't recommend it enough for women who are looking to boost their confidence, learn self-defense, and have a fantastic time doing it! Thank you Dainis and Sarah!

Team DNA BJJ is an incredible academy. They have world class instructors who not only provide top level instruction but are also very friendly and inviting. Dainis and Sarah care deeply about each students progress and are always willing to help them achieve their goals. Team DNA has developed one of the best kids and youth programs in the country. They have created a phenomenal environment for students to learn and develop as martial artist and human beings. This was apparent when I visited the academy last year. Every student was eager to learn and I could see how much they respected their instructors and the training environment. I can't wait to visit again to train and share the mats with everyone from Team DNA.

I wish there were more stars to rate them even higher, honestly! I have been training here for the past 12 months and it has been a phenomenal experience. I have yet to encounter any student who I didn’t like or had any issues with ego. The instructors are are excellent at making complex techniques easy to follow even for beginners like myself and the students are so welcoming and genuinely eager to help you learn and develop in your BJJ journey……whether you are looking to compete, improve your health and fitness or are just a weekend warrior! I’ve since enrolled two of my kids (7 & 5) and they are having so much fun while learning confidence and the ability to defend themselves against bullies in school. I can’t say enough great things about Team DNA….come on by for a trial class, you won’t regret it!!!

DNA BJJ is a great place to learn and practice BJJ. Prof. Dainis, coach Sarah and the rest of the instructors run a well organized program that will introduce you to BJJ in a safe and enjoyable manner. Their higher rank students spend time with the beginners to give them additional advice. The kids program is a great way to keep your little ones active and involved with the sport.

I’ve been attending DNA for a couple of years now. They helped keep me in the sport during the pandemic. The school is run by two incredible people, Dainis and Sarah. They’re both not only great coaches but also really great people that care about their students. DNA feels more like a big family. They have the best kids program around. Their adult classes are just as great. If you want competitive classes, they have some. But they also very encouraging to all, even if you don’t want to be competitive.

I’ve done free trials at several local gyms and Team DNA has the most comfortable atmosphere. As a beginner, I was very nervous but all the leaders are super welcoming and friendly. They offered an intro class and I’ve been hooked since. They have classes for all skill levels and people that will teach you at your own pace. Definitely worth checking out if you’re interested!

Team DNA has helped me with my BJJ and confidence. I used to be overweight but doing BJJ has helped me to lose over 60 pounds. The coaches and team members encouraged me to eat healthier. I have also done some tournaments and have done well. Everyone is very friendly and supportive. I have made some great friends here. Thank you to everyone!

DNA BJJ has an amazing atmosphere. My family was instantly welcomed into their community. The owners Dainis and Sarah have created a culture of learning, where individuals at any skill level or age can thrive. My child is 8 years old and attends classes 2 to 3 days a week. They absolutely love it. There is no shortage of positive role models training at this gym. The older or more advanced students always take time to help my child and all of the coaches are invested in ensuring their students get the instruction they need to progress. We recently started attending tournaments with Team DNA and it seems like the gym always has multiple students (and coaches!) standing on the podiums. I highly recommend this gym and thank Dainis and Sarah, as well as the rest of the DNA community, for providing an outstanding atmosphere which has made my family fall in love with BJJ.

What's even more impressive is their family friendly atmosphere. It's a fantastic place for people of all ages to learn and train together. After visiting a number of gyms, we brought our son to DNA. The atmosphere is very welcoming and they made my son feel comfortable with all of the basic moves in his trial. Fast forward a year and a half and my son begs us to go and even convinced my husband to sign up for the adult classes. The instructors are very motivational and provide the technical explanation as well as real life applications of what they’re teaching. I can’t recommend enough!

So happy I started BJJ with Team DNA. Professor Dainis and Coach Sarah are amazingly patient, kind, supportive, and always willing to make sure you are learning properly, at your pace, and are safe doing so. The gym and the members are friendly and supportive as well. Everyone has to start somewhere, and with the way everyone is willing to help, I'd highly recommend Team DNA for anyone wanting to do BJJ. Nothing else to say but the best.

Team DNA is an amazing gym to be a part of. When I started out I didn’t know what to expect and was a bit nervous. That all went away with the warm welcome I got from Dainis and Sarah. Right away it was obvious that there was a community environment in there too. Everyone is so respectful and helpful when giving tips to newcomers. Dainis always lets people stay late after class to work on things and ask questions. It is so clear that he truly wants every one of his students to get better and enjoy themselves. If you are looking to start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, this is the place to go!

DNA BJJ is the perfect place to learn and practice BJJ whether you want to be a high level competitor or just attend recreationally. DNA has very high level and supportive teachers who place their focus onto every student to ensure understanding and progress. Not to mention, they still compete to this day. The community is very welcoming, friendly, supportive, and tough (you will have a lot of fun rolling). In short, going to DNA BJJ guarantees progress, whether you're just starting or are already high level. I am forever grateful.

On top of being very knowledgeable, the coaches are awesome at creating a welcoming environment where children feel supported and they belong. As an example, they know/remember each child by their name even in large group lessons!

I am beyond happy with this place! The kids teens and adults are all kind and happy to be here and the owners are some of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. I called and made an appointment for a first class because my son needed an activity especially after all the covid restrictions were over .The whole atmosphere had my son in love with DNA BJJ. I now feel better that he has a really cool activity to look forward to every week. Discipline is something that is important to learn early on so why not have fun doing it!

Their classes, whether it be basics or advanced, will definitely give you a great workout. The high level training you receive from this team will only leave you motivated to come back for more. Glad to be a part of the Team DNA BJJ family.

Since January 2023, I have been participating regularly at DNA BJJ taking thier beginner classes. I feel that I have spent enough time there now to give a fair and well thought out review. So far I am enjoying it immensely. Even though challenging, the instructors and coaches are welcoming and respectful of your limitations. I currently only go to the Monday and Friday Basic class and Coach Scott and Coach Tee are very professional and take a great deal of care in what they teach. They are both very approachable and have zero egos when it comes to training white belts. I never feel like I am being looked down upon due to my lack of skills. Coach Scott is a brown belt and Coach Tee is a purple belt and both have a well rounded knowledge of teaching so you understand. The owners Dainis and Sarah are both tournament level black belts but they treat all beginners with respect and I often find myself talking with them when time permits and they're very easy going. I have not personally trained with them but I have heard nothing but good things about thier skills and I am excited to develop with this club. For anyone looking to start BJJ and are afraid due to intimidation, DNA is very welcoming and can provide a place for the casual person trying to improve or for people who want to compete.

My daughter and my husband are training at DNA BJJ since they started in Whitby . It is a great club run by amaizing people . Sarah and Dainis are not only shaping great athletes, but forming communities and and maintaining a family feel for everyone who is training there regardless if they want to compete or just keep in shape.

I can't say enough good this about this place. As a total beginner to BJJ the experience has been amazing. Everyone there is very helpful, very nice, and all the coaches and higher belts are constantly helping out the newbies. It's a great gym and I completely recommend it for anyone interested or even already experienced.

When my son expressed interest in BJJ we spent a lot of time touring clubs in the Durham Region. Luckily we found DNA BJJ, this club is fantastic! Family oriented business with an emphasis on the kids advancing their skills while having fun doing it. Since day one I have found DNA to be a welcoming environment for individuals of all skill levels. If you’re looking to sign your kids or yourself up for BJJ, look no further. You won’t be disappointed.

Team DNA deserves more than the 5 stars. From the moment you walk into the door you are treated like you've been there for years. Dainis and Sarah have really created an environment that is next to none. The BJJ is fantastic but this is what really sticks out for me. The instruction at DNA is amazing making it easy for everyone to enjoy and learn. From beginner classes with Scottie and T, Wrestling with Coach Dan, Judo with Braiden and the weekly regular night and advanced classes with Dainis (or Sarah or Rich) there's top notch classes for all areas of BJJ and will have you keep coming back. Even the afternoon classes have a great crew making it super easy to fit your training into your schedule. There is always huge support whether you are just beginning or have been doing it for years. 7 months in and I can say there is really is no better place to be then on the mats at DNA. On a more personal note, my grandmother came to her first BJJ tournament a couple weeks back and as 89 year olds are was quite confused. Sarah took the time to explain what was going on to her and walk her through things and it made my grandmothers day, 3 weeks later and she is still talking about it. I will be forever grateful for that. DNA is a reflection of the people that run it and I can say with absolute certainty that they are some of the best people you will meet and life is to short not to surround yourself with good people. I can honestly say there's no better place to go.

Can’t get much better than DNA BJJ. Dainis is an accomplished competitor and black belt in both BJJ and Judo, yet he is always working on something new to better himself and stay up to date with the latest techniques. The place caters to ages, goals, and athletic backgrounds (including none). I highly recommend making use of the 1-week free trial, you won’t loose anything. Note, the wrestling class by Coach Dan once a week is such a nice change of pace.
