Amazing restaurant! Great food and quality. Service was excellent too! I think this place is underrated. We visited for the first time last month and ordered fish and chips, and a pizza. Honestly, both were amazing! The pizza was filled with toppings and it didn't feel overly greasy. It tasted great! The fish and chips wasn't short of great too! It was better than many places in Metro Vancouver. Of course, unless you're in White Rock, it's not convenient to come out just for these items but hey! It just gives us a reason to visit White Rock again. The price was fitting and the views cannot be topped. There were lineups after we arrived, so make sure to grab spots early!

I really don't want to write such reviews but it genuinely baffles my mind that restaurant owners don't go out to check what their competitors might be doing right. Charlie Don't Surf restaurant offers a casual dining experience with a laid-back atmosphere. While the restaurant's decor and ambiance are a little on the hippie side on purpose, the food and drinks leave much to be desired. The food was average at best. Menu was very limited, the execution falls short of expectations. Poutine was ketchupy. The food looked delicious when it came to the table, but it was one of our blandest meals ever. The drinks were even more disappointing. The drinks lacked flavor and balance, specially the Sangria, had nothing going for it. If you're looking for an exceptional dining experience in terms of food, you may want to look elsewhere.

Stopped in for a light lunch to visit some family we haven't seen in a long time. Super cozy place. The warmth of the fireplace in the middle of the room was wonderful. Decor was cute. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Clam chowder was fantastic. Thanks so much

Starting off with the positives, they have great food and quality. Also love the vibes. We sat outside and had a very nice view of the pier. For food we ordered nachos and chicken quesadilla which were both so good. The nachos are a very big portion and worth it. They were loaded with toppings. The food also came out pretty quick, wasn’t too long of a wait. However this was the WORST service I've experienced. We had to call our server over for everything. I believe her name was Amanda. There wasn’t a single time she asked if we needed anything or if we were finding everything alright. We never even got any water to start off with or napkins. When we looked around, she seemed to be servicing the table beside us just fine. It was just our table that she was constantly ignoring. Then at the end we waited 30 minutes to get our bill, and even then we had to wave her down for it.

Charlie Don't Surf was explained to me as THE iconic White Rock spot, and I get that if it was based on the location and the view. It's got one of the best patio views of the beach and pier on the strip. Outside of that, Charlie Don't Surf (or just Charlie's now? Wasn't sure based on the menu) was a disappointment. I mean, we sat down and just sank into this old, uncomfortable, sticky, and un-upholstered bench. Tough to sit there all dinner. I firmly believe the types of things left unattended are reflective of the treatment towards the entire operation. Food was just average - we had a quesadilla, fish and chips, and a jambalaya. Most places on the strip offer the same dishes, so I wonder what makes this "iconic" (maybe the Jambalaya?). Service was average - she did her job no more, no less. The environment and atmosphere was very eclectic and interesting, but novelty and kitschy-ness alone won't keep this place afloat. There's a lot on the White Rock strip, so I'll tend towards somewhere else next time I'm there.

Very good location in WhiteRock pier, I like environment and food here, I always order Salad- healthy food here. My friend order Berger set , she said very delicious. Very suitable for friends gathering and chatting and spend time here. If choosing sit outside , the view is fabulous.

This place is awesome! It's right by the waters and there were many customers (that's why we came here). The price is reasonable and the servers were very nice. Make sure you get the fish. We actually forgot we were beside the waters and didn't remember to order the fish which were very fresh. The pasta and tacos were very filling too.

Went to south Surrey visiting a friend and came here for a brunch because of my friend's recommendation. It was Sunday lunch time but the place wasn't very full. We were still asked to wait for about 20 minutes to be seated. Sitting outside was nice in a warm day. We ordered a coffee, a yam fries and a bacon and egg breakfast. Still we were told because of the shortage of kitchen staff that our food would be served in 30 minutes. After the long wait, we finally had our food. Bacon and egg was hot but yam fries was warm and soggy. For sure the yam fries was cooked and sat there for a while. Our friend said her recent visits of the restaurant was like this and not very satisfying. So it was obvious they've been through staff shortage for a while. Waitress were nice and friendly. Food was mediocre.

A must try place at the White Rock pier. Friendly staff and cozy ambience. We visited this place many times before and I felt that I have to review it atleast this time without fail. Be it brunch or lunch, they don't disappoint you on the food at all !! We tried Quesedillas, Burger and the Hungry Man's Bowl. All of them tasted really good. Needless to say, Nachos are must to try here. This time, we also tried Margarita (non-alchoholic) instead of a regular side drink. It tasted really really refreshing and I added it to my list of favourites. Be sure to try this! The only thing to note is that their portion sizes are really large inckuding the kids portions and be sure to plan your order accordingly. 🤗

Been wanting to dine here and finally was able to do it last Saturday. The weather was awesome too. We ordered Tacos, Fish and Chips and their Burgers. We loved all of it. The place was so busy and we had to wait for an hour. We complained to our server and he was very apologetic. To ensure we come back and that we had a great experience, our awesome server gave us a gift card due to the wait. We were not disappointed, albeit the wait, we will surely be back.

One of my favourite spots on Marine drive in White Rock. The vibe here is laid back and the atmosphere is welcoming. Inside you’ll find a lot of decor from yesteryear and even a canoe hanging from the ceiling. The service is always great and food is good too. Lots of seating is available in the restaurant and ample patio seating is also available. Popular in the summer for the patio with ocean views across the way this spot gets pretty busy and is always a favourite for locals. The restaurant is clean and follows COVID-19 protocols. Next time you find yourself on Marine drive in White Rock make sure you stop by you will definitely enjoy it.

I love this restaurant so much! The workers work so hard as this place is always busy, especially with nice weather. I love the option they have to text you when your table is ready because the wait is always worth it. Good food, good drinks, excellent service! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Decent place to stop in, have dinner and people watch along the shore in a White Rock. Service wasn’t overly attentive - but they were friendly enough. Food was a solid good, but far from mind blowing.

Love this place. Ocean front/view. Amazing food and service. Last we came here was a couple years ago and we wondered how they have held up. Apparently time has been good to Charlie cause they have just gotten so much better with age. My go to place for the drive. I cant justify going to any of the other places.

The host was amazing she was so friendly and welcoming. The service was slow. Took long to order and get the bill. The food was not that great. I had clam chowder which was great. Then had fish and chips. It was not good at all. The fish and so much batter and the fries were frozen fries deep fried. Just not good at all.

Vegetarian patty’s are cooked on the same grill as meat patty’s. How does that make any sense? This should be clearly printed on the menu just like White Spot has it printed for their Beyond Burger. Update: Thank you to the owner for your kind response. I improved star rating. I look forward to coming back and seeing the newly updated menu. Hopefully some day soon veggie patty’s there can be cooked on a separate grill because I used to love having a veggie burger there before I knew about the grill sharing.

Food was excellent, place was amazing and pandemic measures in place for a very good time. Services on the front line to come to restaurant were over the top. We were able to queue for a preferred patio seating while we walked the beach promenade. The weather was perfect, but had a fabulous experience. These are tough times, but adaptation to new now. Yikes. Thanks Charlie. 🙂

Best burger we have ever had. (Added bacon mushroom and cheddar). Flavour explosion! Service was quick, but not pushy. Covid protocols were great. We felt perfectly safe and impressed by our visit. We will be back!

The Lucky supermarket is a great place. They have a huge variety of products that you can't find even in T&T around the corner. But the main reason to go is to get the Bahn Mi sandwiches from the ladies in the back. They are phenomenal!

Excellent patio but be prepared to wait even on weekday nights. Good location right near pier with a fantastic view of the ocean. The kale and quinoa power salad was fresh and delicious and my friend enjoyed the fish and chips.

A day in White Rock, visiting the pier, just wouldn't be the same without a visit to Charlie's. Best view of the ocean on an excellent patio. Great food. Always great service. Can be difficult to get a patio table in the summer, but it's worth the wait.

Enjoyed the visit and loved the food. Beautiful scenery and view of the ocean, great music, kind staff and super cool decor. Only thing I’d change is the bathrooms are in terrible need of an update and don’t have trash cans for the paper towel. Tons of cobwebs under the sink and on the door frame as well. As well as the mayo was quite off in taste which I had ordered on the side for my fries, but the server we had was quite assuring when I brought it up to her which was great to hear. I will be back again when in this neck of the woods! I got the cod burger and it was really fresh.

White Rock Pier & Promenade area is exciting and has excellent potential. In my opinion, Charlie Don't Surf is located in the best part of seaside Marine Drive, and the view from their patio is already half of its success. Considering how overwhelmed they were with the endless stream of clients on a sunny warm day, I should say the service was good. The pizza was unmemorable, as I'm pretty sure it was made with pre-cooked crust or maybe even previously frozen. It is not an issue with a pint of good beer and that fantastic view. However, the San Francisco salad wiped out all flavor shortcomings of pizza. The perfect combination of ingredients and delectable dressing. We didn't have many expectations visiting this establishment, and there is certainly room for improvement, but we enjoyed our stay.

The place and service was really nice. Our server was always checking on us if we need anything, so they improved a lot on service based from previous reviews. The food is excellent, I’d like to try their seafood dishes next. I am short of one star since there are some items that were not listed on the menu like non-alcoholic beverages for example, or I must’ve missed it. However, I will definitely go here again next time.

We enjoyed our meal here, the fish and chips came out crisp, hot, and delicious! The calamari was fantastic, lightly breaded and came out fresh. Our waitress was quite friendly and considerate with our toddler and her meal, but not much service received during meal. Only takeaway we’re the drinks, let down by both margarita and Bellini.

This is the first time I've been to this restaurant. it's not dining time but it's quite crowded. Outdoor seating with a beautiful view of the coastline. We ordered Fish&Chips, Boullabaisse, Wings, Yam Fries, and the food was delicious.

If you're looking for a cozy and warm eatery to escape the chilly winter weather, then look no further than the restaurant we visited in White Rock during Christmas. From the moment we stepped inside, we were impressed by the unique fireplace that not only kept us warm but also added a touch of charm to the ambience. The decor and lighting of the eatery were amazing, creating a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. As a group, we ordered a variety of dishes including fries, drinks, edamame beans, and nachos. While everything we tried was delicious, the nachos were a real standout. They were unlike any nachos we've had before, with a choice of fresh toppings that made them simply irresistible. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at this eatery. The combination of great food, warm and cozy ambience, and attentive service made it the perfect place to unwind and enjoy some delicious food with friends. If you're in the area and looking for a place to eat, be sure to check this place out - you won't be disappointed!

Very disappointed with my $18 chicken wings. They were small and dry. Appeared to be fried more than once. The side celery was old and turning rusty. My fault for not sending them back. Expect much better food here.

I heard really good things about this restaurant but unfortunately my experience was not that. Not sure if it was an off day for staffing or something but took us 25 minutes to just get water, another 15 for our drinks and maybe another 20 for food. Our food was great and all the other dishes I saw around looked good. Not sure if I’ll return

During my visit to Charlie Don’t Surf Restaurant along the beautiful White Rock beach, I was thoroughly impressed, leading me to rate it a well-deserved 4 out of 5 stars. This place isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an integral part of the White Rock experience. The food here is consistently good, with flavors that tantalize the palate and a menu that caters to a variety of tastes. The service is another high point – attentive, friendly, and efficient, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant adds to its charm, perfect for a good time whether you’re with family, friends, or just enjoying some alone time. It’s a staple in the area for a reason, and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal with a great view.

I love this restaurant. Its location is great, the staff are friendly and the food is always on point. I've had fish tacos, clam chowder, fish and chips, and they've all been excellent and fresh. The drinks are also delicious. Every time we head to the pier, this is our stop. It's almost a family tradition at this point.

Service was beyond poor. Server did not know what she was doing. Was not knowledgeable about menu. Forgot about my husbands drink order and he had to get up to go ask for it. Also had to get up to go ask for bill. Food was mediocre at best. It wasn’t bad but it was nothing I would expect in a restaurant. You can be standing at the front and staff are just standing or walking by without asking if you’ve been helped. Over top of it we went on a pretty quiet day and waited a long time for our food. Haven’t been here in years. Can definitely say food quality has gone down. Would never go back

Went here today. Limited menu on phone but they have installed plexi-glass barriers. Was able to sit outside. Opened at noon today. Fish and chips with the coleslaw was amazing. Our server was prompt. Not able to get censer sad at this time but other great options on salads. Time limit of 1.5 hours and limited to # of people per table. Overall good job today.

Was there while ago. Found establishment dirty. Unclean. Server didn't even clear all the dishes and glassware or wipe the table from customers before us. We ordered a beer each. When server brought us our beers. I asked for the table to be cleared. Server sneered and rolled his eyes. He didn't wipe the table. I had asked for a glass for my beer. The glass given to me looked like the used glass that was left on our table from previous patrons. It had lip marks on edge of the glass. Greasy finger prints on the side. And there was little bit of liquid in bottom of glass. Myself and people i was with started laughing. Server brought 2 of us their meals. There was some problem in the kitchen and the other meals would be delayed. Server never did wipe the table. I complained to manager. Manager was really bothered and sarcastically offered me a free beer. I decided i didn't want to be there. I got up and left. We all left. Server was loud and rude as we were leaving. In front of other customers. Very unprofessional. Place was dirty. Employees didn't care about basics of cleanliness. Will always avoid returning here. Boathouse is better.

Lots of space for distancing. Awesome water view even from inside. I ordered the signature hamburger. Way too messy to pick up. Had to eat it with knife and fork but we'll worth it. One of the best burgers I have had in a long time!

Not impressed with food. It was OK, but nothing that would say I want to come back. We had burgers and fish tacos, both dishes were bland taste and served very simple way. Burger without add-ons would have been a disaster. Staff was very friendly.

Our second visit to Charlie Don’t Surf; the first time the food was good (Beach Salad and hamburger) and the service okay. This afternoon, my husband and our daughter enjoyed their cod fish and chips. My breakfast by contrast, was very mediocre. Greasy over cooked eggs with a ton of pepper on them - I couldn’t eat them and I love pepper. Butter on toast tasted old. When I politely let the server know for the kitchen, she quickly apologized, didn’t seem to care, and did nothing to remedy the situation. Disappointing as we chose Charlie’s today based on our last good experience a few weeks ago. We left wishing we had tried a different White Rock restaurant where service and food would be better. I emailed the restaurant and received a brief reply saying they would look into it. That was back in February and haven’t heard a thing since. There was no effort whatsoever to make things right.
