Sunday version of the Night Market. It's quite big I must say. We spent about 2 hours there eating and walking through all the stalls. There is also a square where people can sit down to eat and drink and dance to live music. The stalls range from food to clothes to souvenirs. A typical spread for a night market. Food quality is mixed, some are good some are so so. But an interesting experience.

There is a third Night Market in Chiang Rai and this the Sunday Night Happy Street Market on Sankhongnoi Road. It is my favourite Night Market because it just happens to be one of my favourite streets for finding something to eat and just hanging out on a bike ride in Chiang Rai. By the time I experienced my first Happy Street night, I was already making friends with small restaurant owners on this street because I was riding my bicycle down that street almost every day during my stay in Chiang Rai. I think at that time I stayed in Chiang Rai for almost a year because I found the people to be so friendly and this was my favourite street.

In Chiang Rai you can see different night market! Here we are at Sunday Night Walking Street, located along the Sankhongnoi Road. The Market is known as โ€˜Happy Streetโ€™ and is a bit smaller than the Saturday market but otherwise pretty similar. Here you can find every things, food, fish, meat, juice, insect, artisan products and in the end you cannot get a massage!!

Every Sunday evening, San Khong Noi Road also known as Happy Street in Chiang Rai becomes a pedestrian for a few hours and welcomes the stalls of a large night market. A nice evening event to do some shopping and eat on the run or sitting at tables arranged at different places after buying your dinner among variety of food stalls of this big bazaar. There is a stage with local performers, and a big place where locals come to dance in a friendly, upbeat atmosphere. Besides food, it's a great place to pick up souvenirs, handicrafts arts and craft, and embroidered hill tribes. One thing that I like about this night market is its exclusively locals, foreign tourists are very very few and therefore making it feel more authentic. Definitely Must Place to visit and not be Miss.

The stall I like most in this walking street is this tiny drawing booth by a girl (2nd grade). Smart and adorable. You can negotiate to get yours coloured. One drawing is 5baht, excluding tip of course ;) Besides this girl and Northern Thai dance, it's just a normal walking street, full of food and shopping stalls. Not a must but worth a try if you are foreigners / have nothing to do on Sunday eve.

I've been to a few walking street markets in Thailand and this one was fairly typical. There was plenty of food to choose from, some clothing, some local handicrafts, and lots of souvenirs. I was with a friend that is a Muslim and it was a joy for him to find a halal fried chicken vendor. He told me he hadn't eaten chicken in a month and a half because he couldn't find any that was halal. I was happy for him.

Love the Sunday night market, full of shops of a bit if everything and lots lots of food stalls. I easily spent 60-90min here walking around, getting some food and buying souvenirs. Everything is at a very good price (cheap) you wonโ€™t find anywhere else cheaper. Lots of shops and food stalls are the same ones you can find on the sunday market or Chiang Rai Night Bazaar.
