The Anchor pub did not deliver on a pleasant Sunday Roast experience. Had a booking made here for a group of 7 and when we arrived our table was not yet ready. We were asked to hang around the bar and order some drinks. Took about 15-20 minutes before we were seated. Once we were seated no waiter came to check with us for at least 25 minutes. They were accommodating and were able to get fried chicken with a roast (bizarrely no roast chicken available for non-red meat eaters). We ordered pigs in blankets, whitebait as starters. Mains: cauliflower cheese, roast beef, steak and ale pie, and fried chicken. Every time we ordered a drink, something was missing. There was a one hour wait before the servers noticed we had not received a single bit of food. We then asked that they brought out the starters at the same time as the mains as it was becoming quite late. The white bait was okay, the pigs in blankets were raw on the inside, the cauliflower cheese had little cheese and tasted of flower, the vegetables were raw, the pastry of the pie was raw and barely any filling. The plating was inconsistent, but the roast beef was well cooked and seasoned. When I spoke to the manager he did feel bad and gave us a significant discount. He explained that he had just taken over ownership and they had been having difficulties on their first weekend. It took a further 25 minutes after asking to pay to have the manager come and collect. A huge shame as the location is beautiful. Don’t think I’ll be visiting for some time.

I really love the Anchor. Such a fine example of a friendly, relaxed public house, and that view, it really is something to marvel. I often end up here just before the rush hour starts if the weather is nice . Weirdly I've never struggled to get a prime seat and have always been delighted by the service here. I highly recommend it to anyone looking at their watch and realising its pimms o'clock! Food looks great but that's something I am yet to try. I shall update that once I've returned but I'm sure it's just as good!

A warm and welcoming place beside a canal (and river?) with lots of seating, both inside and out. There was also adequate parking too. The decor was standard olde worlde country pub style, with lots of period style pictures frame size posters. The food was a fairly standard choice, but very well prepared and served. At times, the waiting staff were just a minute or two behind the game, but on a relaxed Sunday afternoon. That was OK. If you’re in the area, it’s worth calling in.

Called in for the first time since Covid, for an evening meal, after an afternoon walking around RHS Wisley Gardens. Offered a choice of inside or outside by the river, we chose inside, to avoid flying insects, and traffic fumes, as cars queued to cross the very narrow bridge. Very warm welcome as we were shown to our table, and drinks order taken. We ordered fish burger and fries, and chicken and ham hock pie and mash. Both very good, apart from my green veg, sadly. Pudding was sticky toffee pudding, and deep filled apple pie, both with ice cream. Not enough room for coffee! Leslie was our server, and she reinforced the initial welcome with her friendly personality. Very popular location, and warmly recommended.

Really loved the atmosphere of this pub! Huge pub garden overlooking the canal and lovely indoor seating with windows overlooking this too. There's a large car park to the side. Came for a nice walk and Sunday roast. Food was good and staff were friendy. Looking forward to trying this place in the summer months too!

Warmly welcomed by staff. Lovely location next to the river. Nice decor, lots of "canal boat decor" very fitting. Good choice on menu. We settled for sharing baked camembert and having a dessert each. Was not very crowded but still had nice atmosphere and the food was very good. Prices were reasonable. Close to RHS Wisley.

Bumped into The Anchor by chance and I am glad I did. We had no bookinf and despite being full we were accommodated! Lovely hospitable staff, great craft beers' selection & the food was really tasty! I highly recommend it. Oh, and the scenery does not dissapoint either. Will most certainly go back!

Stopped in here after a visit to RHS Wisley. We pre booked and there was no problem sitting a group of seven. It was a hot and sunny evening and the venue was fairly busy with plenty of people choosing to sit outside under the umbrellas while taking in the scenery and watching the occasional barge float past. Menu was pretty good with a standard menu, pizza menu and specialty too. We had great service from Lisa who coped well with our orders and went above and beyond in making one of our group whose birthday it was feel special with a surprise cake and candle. A great venue with lovely waterside views, good food and great service.

Lovely riverside location, plenty of seating area inside and outdoors. Sadly, our visit was a disappointment because we stayed to have dinner and the service was really poor, very slow. Others seem to have the same issues, no-one clearing tables, having to ask repeatedly for menus, water etc. When we finally ordered food it came very quickly. Some of it was good (fish and chips) but otherwise it was average (roast beef was chewy and bland). I would recommend this pub for drinks and the views only

Lovely seating area outside. Ran out of some drinks but normal on a bank holiday I guess. However there’s no excuse for the shockingly poor Sunday lunches. Dry potatoes, cauliflower cheese that looked and tasted like it was sat in the hot cupboard l day. And the vegetables, a teaspoon of peas, leeks and red cabbage and then the worst carrots I’ve ever had. The chicken was bland and dry. Shame as was very much looking forward to trying out the food here As a fellow hospitality worker, I can’t comprehend how bad the Sunday offering was.

I HAVE visited this pub loads of times over the last 40 years and it has also been magical Set right on Pyrford lock it is a wonderful place to sit and watch the barges go through. The food is excellent and the staff are very well trained and welcoming The pub itself is clean and beautiful. There is plenty of parking opposite. The food is quite pricey.

First stop on our boating holiday. Very busy pub with excellent food and service. Plenty of mooring and water top up for the boat.

Lovely looking pub by the river with barges and all sorts of flotilla pass by while enjoying a pint with some lovely pub food in the middle of the forrest. Toilets inside with disable access. Fantastic looking bar. Enjoy a chill out walk along the river after your lunch and enjoy the wild life and flying insects that inhabit the river lined with barges.

Great pub situated right on the river. Perfect spot for drinking, however the food is very poor so I wouldn’t bother going there to eat. It’s a must to visit for a drink though!

Sadly this pub has become such a let down. We have visited for years. The service is slow and the tables are filthy. Food was pretty disappointing and staff are rude. It only has good reviews for the location l. THEY NO LONGER ACCEPT CASH!! Which we were only told once we ordered! We only support business that accepts cash so will not be visiting again. Another local bites the dust eh! I appreciate the response to my review, however we do feel strongly that pubs and restaurants should be supporting cash payments. There are many people like myself who do not have access to cashless payments, and you are omitting this group of people from your pub by refusing our cash. It is exactly the same as card, so why refuse me?? It’s a shame that businesses like yourself have become less considerate of what people actually want, over the ‘convenience’ of cashless.

We like the atmosphere and outdoor sitting areas, service was great, attentive polite staff. We would recommend a different varieties of food could be added to the menu. Also we couldn't see a list of soft drinks on the menu to choose. The waitress read it from tablet for us. The outdoor chairs were not comfortable. In general it's a nice place to visit on the way.

Sunday lunch 3pm after RHS Wisley visit with friends. Lovely pub next to the canal, on arrival very busy. Service was wonderful - food was classical Sunday roast with all the trimmings. Only criticism is the food could have been hotter. Would recommend and visit again.

They're dog friendly which is great, the food is delicious and the location is pretty. We did get given regular hot chocolate when we'd asked for white (which is an option on the menu) but it was busy so figured we'd been misheard and they still tasted nice.

Great midweek lunch with friends. Our online booking got lost in the ether but the reception team found us a great table. Very friendly and efficient service. Good food, nicely presented and contrary to other reviews reasonably priced, compared to the competition. Relaxing atmosphere by the canal. Great for dogs with good walk along the canal.

We came here for a delightful weekend reunion with family from across Surrey and London. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the staff for really kind and helpful - providing a goody bag for children to keep them occupied. All the food was delicious, especially the Hake pictured. Will definitely be making a return!

Visited on a sunny Saturday afternoon on bank holiday weekend. Really busy. But managed to find a table outside. It’s drinks outside only. Bizarre que as if waiting in supermarket to order drinks from bar. It keeps the bar clutter free of customers. But other customers didn’t adhere to que. And staff were quite happy to serve them in priority to people who had been queing. Made a dinner reservation in person. As website stated fully booked. Arrived to half empty restaurant at 19:30. Google review stated restaurant closed at 21:00. Staff denied that stating normal pub closing time. But kitchen closes at 20:00. Overall nice meal. Friendly service. And speedy food. Downside was very limited menu. I would visit again. As beautiful location beside canal.

Great Place and fantastic food. This pub is right next to a lovely canal with outdoor seating as well. The Anchor is a spotless pub and well maintained in cleanliness. Plenty of parking spaces, but would be wise to book in advance here! It is wheelchair accessible but when you book make sure you advise your situation of your needs! Fantastic Staff and very polite and very helpful. Reasonable prices and never felt rushed to exit like some places do. 5 Stars and would recommend the pub 👍👍👍

Great pub in a beautiful location. Didn’t eat on this occasion but have done so in the past and the food was great. You can sit by the canal and watch boats go by 😎

The location is amazing. I can't say the same about the food though. It was just average, a bit tasteless, and definitely something they need to work on unfortunately. The waiter service was very good.
